22 October 2011 ...

We gathered at the choreographer's seat. He looked at ease and smiled at us.

Today will be our farewell.

"Let's start from the top" he said while placing his fingers tip on his head, his signature.

Spinoff: We performed without any mistake, but my heart could not stop pounding from the adrenaline of excitement and challenge.

Tomorrow is the finale...

And I cannot contain this excitement in me...

Thinking back, it struck me that I have had not performed for 11 years. How time flies.

What's more amazing I never thought we could just learnt a 75-minutes performance within 4 days. That sounds so impossible yet incredible, because we did it.

21 October 2011 ...

My heart beat was drowning the background music. My eyes grew wide with fear.

I have listened to this song a thousand times. It's Vanessa Mae's Happy Valley. And I love this song. I was elated when this song is used for the Chinese dance! And... it's going to finish in a few seconds.

We were late by 2x8.

How can this be?! We were counting the steps correctly; we didn't miss a count or a step. So why do I feel we were extreme late? What if I were wrong and I will be screwing up the whole dance? Do I listen to my gut feeling or to my ego?

My heart screamed "I don't want to lose!"

I gave in to the amydala hijack. My hands quickly changed its fanning position and my legs took me running in small circles running out of the formation. The others were struck with confusion when I was running like a wandering butterfly... In a snap, the girl in front of me understood my action and she started running little circles. The rest followed sharply.

Steady ... steady... steady ...

This is the last line of the music...

Get ready...

My hands were frantically twisting the fans.

This is the last bar of the music ...

I looked around at the others... I could see the confusion painted all over their face.

Get ready... 3... 2... 1...

POSE!

Spinoff: I saved the day.

My hands refused to stop shaking. I inhaled uncontrollably to keep myself calm, and yet my lungs demanded for more. My eyes were ready to stream a few beads of tears, but I didn't permit that to happen.

We screw up the whole Chinese dance. What went wrong? Where went wrong?

The choreographer was watching us throughout the whole dance. He was true to his words: he would not indicate whether we make a mistake or not. What happened just now was a true test for the bunch of us.

What happen if we screwed up during our final performance? I bet he is thinking the ending would be horrible. No matter how simple and small this performance is, I realised I do not want to disappoint the choreographer for not meeting his expectation.

Be it my ego or gut feeling, they have saved the performance by allowing us to strike the last pose of the dance...

Jumping star!
Sunday, December 2, 2012
On 21 October 2011...

We gathered at the ground at 6.30 am as usual. Without commanding, we all knew what to do: do warming-up exercises and jog a few lapse. Although I have not jogged for a very long time, surprisingly my speed was fast and I always have to fall back to be aligned with the others.

I guess we were too exhausted today that we did almost 100 jumping stars. The norm is one of the guys will do the counting - 1, 2, 3 - but somehow a few of them ran out of breathe, hence, our movements were not in sync. The punishment was to do it again and again until our movements are ONE.

I noticed many of us were already running out of breathe and getting exhausted, I continued the counting before the guy before me lose his trail of counts.

Everyone especially the guys in the circle gave me an approval look when I took over the counting and did so for another 7 more times.

And the facilitator was no where in sight. Did my high-pitch voice shoo him away?

Tidbits: I must be possessed for I was not tired at all during the jog or the jumping stars. I felt I could do that for eternity.

Everyone was just surprise with the level of my stamina. I even surprised myself with that. I didn't know I have such energy level. Ah. A power to reckon with.

I guess I was just telling myself that I have to be tough.

March March March
Sunday, December 2, 2012
On 19 October 2011 ...

Our team member who is specialised in marching taught us how to march, and I always screw the timing!!! Oh well, that's because I always walk too fast that I cannot confine my foot steps to the timing. My member behind me always have to inform me...

How embarrassing for the AYL to not march properly!

I marched with my eyes on the floor instead of heads up...

Spinoff: I think I almost knock into a lamp post while marching with my eyes on the floor. Yea, the member behind me was panicking, but I was cool as a cucumber. Thanks to my karate training, I'm trained to look at things without moving my eyes much.
