40 years of national service
Sunday, July 1, 2007
yup, in what seems to be the finale of the build up over the past few days, the straits times today published a special as a tribute to 40 years of national service by our country. I thought the report was very well written, though i was a little skeptical at first considering the fact that some of the writers were females and may not possess the same level of understanding compared to the other male journalists. However, i really think that they did a fantastic job in documenting the enlistment procedure and garnering stories from the public for this special. And the fact that they wrote those articles as girlfriends, wives, mothers made it even more special. Though the national service system has its detractors, it's quite encouraging to see there are those who find the value in it. I don't want to harp too much on it since the articles were sufficient. In short, yes to me it may be long, it may be tough at times, but certainly it was one hell of an adventure.

Anyway, i've been putting off this update for what seemed an eternity. yup, im finally back as a student, putting in a few hours for lessons, tutorials and projects each week. Instead of juggling things like training, evaluations and taking care of my guys, i now find myself working out math, rushing to classes and being a total newbie and klutz again. What probably hurt the most would be the lack of income every month! Applied for some part time but still no luck due to my schedule or lack thereoff. oh well, the world outside is indeed a little bit more scary, just needs a little readjusting but i'll be fine.

Teng's wedding is coming up next week, think i shall bring a camera this time. 070707, according to the mythbusters website it is by far the most popular date for weddings, with bookings already being made 2 years ago. So i guess the latest date would be 121212, which is like 4 years time. All the best to the girls lol!

The Singaporean Breakfast
Monday, June 11, 2007
Nothing beats breakfast in Singapore (so far). Beehoon, kway teow, Lor Mee, Mee Pok, Roti Prata, Tau huay, Dim Sum, Chee Cheong Fun. Only some of what's available for breakfast, the choices are just too many! Whenever im away for extended periods, this is the experience i miss the most. Waking up in the morning, taking a leisure stroll, deciding whether i want chinese, indian, malay, or continental cuisine. Ahh just makes my day and feels as though im some retiree.

remember how my blog used to have this annoying midi playing?

well here's the full orchestra version i found, the composer himself who wrote majority of the ff songs that we all love. close your eyes and feel the music, it moved me to tears and im not the only one.

i used to think that music was all about rock music and the bam bam bam bams on every beat, but after awhile it becomes all the same and you really learn how to appreciate subtlety in the different styles of music. haha im getting old! yikes!

update
Friday, June 1, 2007
i saw two punks while driving to buy dinner last evening. They were cycling in the middle of the road - against the traffic (how smart). One car turned out from the bend and almost hit one of them. Seriously, who's gonna be at fault when it all goes down? Drivers will get the most blame. Not against cyclist using the roads, granted Singapore isn't the most cyclist friendly country, but i think common sense should prevail to prevent themselves from being road kills. But then again, common sense is only a relative term.

With some free time, i managed to walk around the old neighbourhood after buying my dinner. Sure brings back quite a few memories, think was almost 10 years ago ive been through that street. Although Toa Payoh has changed significantly, that little place still retained a little resemblance of what i used to know. They still have the old time barber shops which i used to visit when i was a kid, the barber dude is still there! Ahh the memories..

One last thing. I watched the news yesterday and they announced three new signings for Manchester United. Owen was more or less confirmed, but i wasn't prepared to see Nani and Anderson make it to the transfer as well!! I was like -expletive- yea -expletive- awesome!!

check out the videos of them man, anderson - though ive never heard of him before, very impressive.

nani - check out the defenders hitting each other and the awesome chip
