Greetings from Genting
Saturday, April 23, 2005
hello, right now im like 375 km away from singapore and at least 2000m above sea level haha.

just went over to genting with my parents for the short weekend..initially thought that there were lot of things to do, but realistically, it wasn't as much as i would have hoped. The shopping here isn't exactly cheaper than back home too. Also initially wanted to enter the casino, but failed miserably twice. The first time i looked too green or something and the guard stopped me for my ID, after which i was trying to persuade him that i left it in the hotel that was pretty far. The second time was this afternoon where i followed behind a group of guys and just when i thought i was through, they stopped me for wearing a tshirt and said i had to wear a collar t at least. Anyway, they checked all the guys infront of me also, couldn't sneak in behind them, drats. Oh well, it's not like im soo wanting to enter one anyway (not that sour grapes or anything), the truth is that i never quite liked gambling (because i never seem to win haha), which i guess is a good thing that means i would be most unlikely to gamble all my cash away.

So what do i do with all the time while my parents are in the casino? haha, i think i have explored more or less every part of the resorts and just wiled my time away in the arcade (which is pretty old), but thankfully they have initial D haha (eng version though, so gotta start a new card). And finally found this cybercafe/lan shop entrance tucked away in the corner of the resorts, pretty nice place, double storey and not too many people, of course to my liking. In fact i have the whole top storey to myself haha. And thank God for web msn also, which means i can msn anywhere (im such a net addict, think im gonna get cold turkey syndrome when i go into the army). Alright, i'll try to see if i can come down again later, there's F1 qualifying too, hope my hotel tv has that. Ok, signing off. Koban, Genting, Kulau Lumpur.

went for my smu interview today, turned out to be a lot shorter than i expected it to be. Heard from others that there was essay, focus group and interview after that but the candidates today were only subjected to a focus group cum 'interview' session.

first of all, i was like waaaaay overdressed for that.. heard must wear formal, so went to wear presentation and put on a tie, but turned out that only a like a few other people wore long sleeves and none wearing tie, which kinda made me the most overdressed one there. secondly, i think it was a 99% full of male candidates, i thikn majority from the army as well, think i got scheduled in together for the army guys one, well i guess it was slightly better cos guys are known to talk less (not being sexist here - just in case ultra feminists are just waiting for a chance to stone me - yes and im that damned sexy).

Anyway, article given for discussion wasn't something that i really felt strongly about like the casino or something.. so didn't have very much to say for the whole thing. I guess the other guys in the discussion were pretty alright too, was expecting everyone to be speaking just for the sake of getting noticed by the professors, but i guess it turned out to be a pleasant surprise that none really did that shamelessly. But all i can say was i felt i totally flunked there, to be totally honest, i think i was really talking nonsense, thankfully i didn't let them know i was from SP otherwise alice tang would have locked me up and declared i was gay. The right words just didn't come, totally failed to make any lasting impression, my points were decent for 2 seconds but crap the other 10. I only realised what i SHOULD have said only after the whole thing ended and i was sitting with a coke in hand (shouldn't drank the coke first danmit). I felt i was trying so hard not to be one of those that would speak just for the sake of getting noticed such that i failed to highlight points that would actually link and help, thereby effectively screwing myself. Oh well, the place was nice though, a little pity that they're gonna move to a more urban landscape.

just started and finished this book today, fantastic book written by stuart woods. i was expecting thriller like but it came out more detective style and pretty well too. very slick and i can just imagine it being a feature film haha. good character development and overall good ending (cept one slightly touching moment). Im a sucker for good endings.

Time to say good bye

ah, went for my run today and came back to the letter box to see my enlistment letter finally being posted to me. Mine's 10th june, well that's because i didn't pass my naffa to gain exemption from ptp.

anyway, i got another naffa test lined up next week, should be fitter than before but kinda contemplating whether i should still flunk it or not.

Pros for ptp
1. dont have to be at home
2. they start you off slower, less 'culture shock'
3. can complete some subjects so bmt less stress
4. draw some pay

Cons for ptp
1. lost of leisure time (but maybe be offset by job if no ptp in any case)
2. miserable pay
3. possible social risk associated with going for extra training programme (but not that important point)
4. possibility of being butt raped sooner? (i seriously hope that doesn't happen at all)

what do u guys think? sooner or later?
so far i know of two other people joining in ptp as well
1. YT man (3rd june)
2. Alvin Cheong Sua (9 June)
3. Ku Klux Klan Kelly (11 June)

i'll be in school 2 by the way, hope i dun get some cheong sua company and maybe get willy as my pc.

ps: add here if u already got ur letter too guys

anyway, my froggie died
