I wonder, is online blogging really all it's cracked up to be?
Millions of people go online vent their frustrations, wax philosophical ideals and plot world domination - ok so that last one was a joke, but really is it worth it? I mean diaries and journals are suppose to house your inner most thoughts and desires, so is ok for internet strangers to go about reading your problems?
It's the same with MySpace, do you really know half the people on your friend list? Does it really make you feel "popular"?
I say all this and yet, in Japan there's this big sensation over a true story of an otaku (fanatic) getting the girl of his dreams with the help of message board members. His alias is Densha Otoko, or Train Man cuz he rescues said girl from a drunk while coming home from an anime event.
Course you can guess how this fairy tale romance ends. The net has evolved to a point where it has become a cultural phnomenom. Densha Otoko was a forum thread originally, then a book, a movie, and now a tv show.
Densha could be a cunning entertainment conspiracy, but I believe it's good that he expressed his emotions on a forum rather than keeping it all inside - even if those who helped him people were people he didn't even know. <- This is asuming if Densha Otoko is a real guy.
And here I am with my own online blog. A hypocrite because I
am uncomfortable with strange internet citizens reading my every word. Nobody probably reads this anyway.
So here's the big question: Should I continue blogging even though I dislike strangers prying into my private life? or Should stop and find another outlet for expression, even though I secretly enjoy the attention that can be received from my blog?
I need a life.
