"Until the day I die"...
Monday. 8.9.04 11:44 am
I finally got some more hours in at the hotel. I had 3 on Friday, then I filled in for Ty yesterday and ended up working 7 hours since Jamie didn't show up. Much to my surprise, my manager just called this morning and gave me hours on Tuesday and Friday. I'll finally make some progress on the financial front, thank God.

It's crazy to think that in 3 weeks, save one day, I'll be back to school. That's definitely not a complaint; I can't wait to go back to school. I'm actually pretty thankful this largely not good summer is drawing to a close.

Well Hott Billy Graham...

I had a fun time out and about with mom, shopping like whoa. We did the mundane first and got groceries, then we went over to the mall. My shopping experience put me in a rather good mood. Not only did I pick up American Eagle jeans, but they're size 32 waist. 'Tis a nice confidence booster, coupled with weighing in at 195 lbs on Thursday. It makes me feel good about myself, and encourages me to continue my exercising and eating habits and whatnot. Who doesn't like to feel good and look hott?

"Scotchy Scotch Scotch"...
Friday. 8.6.04 8:49 pm
This week has gone fairly well, much to my surprise. I worked two 8 hour days at a DG on Hepburn St. in Wil Po, which was awesome because Karen wasn't there. I was complimented by the district manager and another manager for being a hard worker, etc. I couldn't help myself, I blurted out "yeah, it's amazing what a little employee morale will do". The best was finding out exactly how much everyone else hates Karen and were more than glad that she's gone after today. The other manager, Valerie, said she'd be happy to have Sean and me work in her store if we weren't going back to school, and asked if she could call us to go to other stores to help out. I actually enjoyed working on Monday and Tuesday because the managers weren't lazy fucks who just bitched and told everyone else what to do. Both John (the dist. manager) and Valerie were cleaning out the back room, unloading stock, etc. I like people like that--they're great to work for. Also, it was very nice to get 16 hours in, since I would've only had about 9 from Karen the Hut.

Wednesday I went down to Hershey to go along with my mom to her appointment. Afterwards, we left and headed over to the Wal-Mart in Mechanicsburg to wait for my Aunt Laura to get off of work. We got there around 5:15, but she was scheduled until 6. So, we walked around the store, I picked up another Dan Brown book (Deception Point), then we waited. While we were waiting, there was a freakin monsoon outside, it was nuts. We were sitting on benches a good 20-30 yards from the doors, but the wind and rain were so intense that we were getting sprayed with the mist. At one point, the entire supercenter went black, but the power came back on almost right away. Luckily, by the time my Aunt was finally done, the storm had passed over, so we left and my cousin and her daughter and a nephew of mine showed up to meet up to go out to eat. So, we all went out to eat, which wasn't too bad, but the kids are freakin rowdy, so it would've been more enjoyable if it was just my Aunt (like my mom had originally planned).

I should backtrack, to explain the progression of my mom's frustration and stress over our two day trip. Originally, my mom made plans to stay with my Aunt Jeannette in Carlisle. However, my Aunt calls the night before and tells my mom she has to work a double shift so my mom can't stay there. So, then my mom calls her sister Laura to meet up with her, and she says yeah, but she'll only wait 15 minutes and if we're not there she's going home. We found that funny when we got there and waited well over an hour for her to get off of work, and then she says that she's going shopping with Jackie (my cousin) after we eat, to which my mom thinks "oh, but you weren't gonna wait for us, yet you're staying to go shopping".

Anyway, after we eat, Jackie and my aunt go shopping, so my mom and I go to my grandmother's in Carlisle. While I'm there I call up Alyssa to hang out (which is a good thing, since her fam isn't coming up to go to their cabin, so I probably wouldn't have seen her til next summer or so). Alyssa comes over with her friend Mike to pick me up, so my mom heads out the 30 minutes or so to Millerstown, to my aunt's house. Here, she tells me later on that she had to wait 25 minutes or so because my aunt and cousin weren't back from shopping yet. Then after that, she had to sit through the yelling and screaming of the kids and stupid conversations with our relatives. Then the next morning, my mom calls her mother to go there since we were only there the night before for about half an hour. My grandmother snaps at my mom and says well no, she doesn't want anyone coming over, she has stuff to do, etc. So, my mom says to her "you don't want your daughter to come visit you then?", and she says "well, you have to understand I have things to do". Then, as my mom suspected, my aunt didn't work a double shift, she ended up going to Sherman's Dale to get my cousin Hope's medical papers or something, but worked in the morning, so my mom could've stayed there. My mom ended up getting ahold of her at work and finding out the lie. Then, my cousin Jackie had asked my mom to follow us back to Williamsport to pick up my cousin Kristopher because he is gonna help them redo their carport. What's funny is that my mom talked to my aunt Pam and said why don't we just take Kristopher down with us to save Jackie a trip, but aunt Pam said smugly that no, Jackie's picking him up on Friday. Here, Kristopher called Jackie, and when she called back she talked to aunt Pam and said to pick up Kristopher anytime on Thursday. So there was the full shebang from the entire family, save my Uncle Charles, probably just because he wasn't there.

So, unfortunately, my mom didn't have a good trip at all, understandably. I had a good time, though I didn't really do much of anything. Mike and Alyssa picked me up, then we picked up Meg Z and we drove to Camp Hill (since the movies were closed with no power in Carlum) and saw Anchorman. Man, that was such a funny movie. Will Ferrel never ceases to amuse me. After that, Mike left, so Alyssa, Meg Z and myself drove around and stopped at the Wal-Mart in Carlisle, where I ran into my Uncle Charles, oddly enough. After that we drove some more and hit up Taco Bell at 11:45, heh. You can't turn down a good burrito, even if it is almost midnight. After that we chilled and watched some tv, and got sucked into watching the stupid people on Blind Date, but switched and watched some Conan and other quality programs. That was about the extent of our excitement. We were all practically passing out before 2, so Meg Z went home, Alyssa went into her house and passed out, and I rocked the fold-out couch bed in the little one room guest house kind of thing they have. It's def a cool place to just go and chill and watch tv and whatnot away from the actual house. The next morning, basically just got up and got around, grubbed, then left to meet up with my mom at the thrift store in Newport. I found a random green soccor jersey that I, for some reason, like, so I got that. After lookin through the place, my mom and I left and came home. As you read, I didn't exactly do anything exciting, but I still had an awesome time. That's what I love about my old school friends--you can sit around and practically do nothing, but still have an awesome time.

Today was, surprisingly, not a bad day at all. I worked both jobs today; I worked DG from 9-noon, then the hotel from 2-5. My plan was to go in and harass the shit out of Karen, but she didn't do anything today to warrant it--it was really strange. It kinda sucked, since I was all set to give her hell, but I couldn't just be mean without her at least saying something. So, that weirdness aside, all I did was run register and do some stocking up front. I left at noon and went home to change into my Radisson attire, then left and deposited my massive $13 check, then went out for Chinese. After that, went to the hotel and ran into Tom. I wasn't sure if he was still working there because I saw he was scheduled at all this week, but he's working in maintenance because the one guy is having surgery on his shoulder. Oddly enough, I actually missed working there. I was laying that shit down. I was supposed to be working with Ty, but he didn't show up until 4, at which point I had already finished the one room, and had the second and third halfway done. I like that job for the fact that I know it well and therefore do it damn well, plus, I make a hell of a lot more money there than at DG. And the good streak continued, cuz Ty asked me if I wanted his hours on Sunday, and without hesitation I was like hellz yeah (which came out more like "yes, that'd be good", but you know what I mean). So, despite worthless mcmanager, I'm getting hours now, which is nice.

Aside from work, going back to friends, I want to make another trip up to hang out with Dave and Amy (and steal that Subway sign, damnit!) and head down to Harrisburg to hang out with Crossley. If it weren't for my weekend getaways with my friends, I think I would've entirely lost my mind this summer. Thank God for my friends, because without them, this summer would've been too terrible to bear. I'm still mr. "I don't have a car, or a license for that matter", so I can't really make trips myself, but I extend the invite for all you'n's to come chill at SU this year. We can sit around and do nothing, but at least we'll have a good time.

"That tire hunted Mary down"...
Monday. 8.2.04 8:47 pm
Times have been good in the past few days. I ventured north once again on friday to go to Dave's for the weekend. Friday night was my hick initiation--I not only attended the redneck infested Troy fair, but also experienced the excitement of the Demolition Derby! I'm not gonna lie, it was fun times. The torrential downpour on rain made the track nice and muddy, which I think definitely spiced things up a bit. We had a mini party of sorts later on that night, but it wasn't anything crazy like the previous weekend. Heh, on the way back to the cabin from making errands, Amy started off the delinquent spree by snagging a road cone from the highway (which is her thing, I'm told), and then I spotted my personal prize--a giant sign for Subway. We were grossly unprepared to snag it, which I discovered when I approached the sign and made a ridiculously feeble attempt at pulling the sign off of it's post. The sign is screwed into the wood, so we felt pretty confident we'd get it next time. Woke up Saturday and we basically farted around until about 4 or so before we got up and actually went anywhere. I somewhat experimented with my first bender. I'm no lush, but purely for the hell of it, the first thing I decided to consume was a girly bottle of Bacardi silver, after which Dave and Amy decided I should be gone most of the day. So, 3 shots of rum followed that, and not too long afterwards we headed to Vinnie's in Troy for some excellent pizza and stromboli/calzone. After that we drove to the coolest place for college kids to be--Wal-Mart Supercenter. We farted around in that place for quite a while, even stopping at one point and sitting on their interesting bean bag chairs, in the aisle, and just sat there and had a conversation. Heh, it was fun times. After we picked up some grenada and tonic and other things, we stopped at Dave's house to try, and succeed, to get the bottle of Vodka from his mom. After we sat there and a few random conversations transpired, the most awesome hot drink was introduced to me. Hot chocolate with Khalua tastes so unbelievibly good. After tasting that and eventually scoring the bottle of Skyy, we left on the quest for the giant Subway sign pt. 2. Dave and I approached the sign with a screwdriver, but neither of us could muster up nearly enough torque to even budge a screw. Once again we were foiled, and realized we needed one of those power screwdrivers to get the job done. After our defeat we went to the store to pick up some red bull, whipped cream, then hot chocolate, french vanilla creamer, and something else I'm forgetting. We went back to the cabin and I watched Spirited Away, which is a really good anime film. I understand why it won so many awards. Dave started making some drinks towards the end of the movie, and we continued upstairs while listening to Dane Cook and laughing our asses off. We drove down to Wil Po to bring me home on Sunday, and Amy kindly started the process of installing Linux by partitioning my hard drive, but because of the thousand restarts and scan disks and defrags, they had to leave after a couple hours. Naturally, after a good weekend, something shitty has to happen. For some reason, my cd-rom drive took a crap. I had to bend a paperclip and poke the hole under the tray to force the disc out. If that wasn't lovely enough, I realize shortly after that neither of my drives are working, and they don't even show up on my computer. After attemtping a system restore and various other typical troubleshooting things, I ended up calling Dell to try and figure it out. Well, after talking with Apu for over an hour, and working around inside my computer, I finally figured it out. Both my cd-rom and my dvd combo drive are connected to the motherboard through the same ribbon cable, so since something was/is wrong with the cd-rom drive, it caused the other drive to not work as well. Once I disconnected the ribbon cable from the cd-rom and left the second drive connected, that drive showed up and works fine. Funny thing, too, is that Dell would typically send me a new cd-rom, but my warranty expired the end of June. Oh well, at least the good drive works.

Today was surprisingly a good day. I went to the Hepburn St. DG to work today. I wasn't too into the idea at first, but then I figured it'd be a day without Karen. Sure enough, when I get there, Karen's outside with some of the other people, so I'm thinking to myself "fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck". However, after we go inside for a bit, I see Karen leaving, and I automatically say, "My day just got a whole lot better", which made the other people around me laugh. I ended up working with Sean from the south side store and then some other people as well as Valerie, the manager from Jersey Shore, and the dist. Manager John. The day went by really quickly. Lunch was so awesome; I went down the plaza to the Chinese place and had Lo Mein and a cup of Wonton soup for $3.45. I walked out of there full; you can't beat that. I ended up working 8 hours today (which is almost a first), and both John and Valerie complimented me on working hard and doing well, and Valerie attempted to call Karen, but ended up having Sean and me working at the Hepburn St. store again tomorrow for 8 hours, instead of the retarded 2 hours I would've had with Karen. When John and Valerie complimented me, I said something to the effect of "yeah, it's amazing what a little employee morale will do". It was funny, everyone hates Karen and can't wait til she's finally out of there on friday. The only bad part of today was cutting the crap out of my fingers with a cardboard box that slipped. Papercuts are one thing, but being cut by cardboard hurts like a motherfucker. I came home and had a message from Jamie at the Radisson, asking if I wanted his hours on Friday because he can't work, so naturally I jumped on that that a hobo on a ham sandwich. 3 hours of work at the Radisson is equivalent to about 12 hours of work at DG, as far as the pay goes. I was slightly worried that I would no longer work at DG on friday (and therefore miss the opportunity to yell at Karen on her last day), but I'm scheduled 9-noon at DG, then 2-5 at the Radisson, so I'll definitely harass the shit out of Karen. It'll be so awesome too, because what can she do about it? Both the district manager and the next step down commended me for being a good worker, and they hate Karen, so if Karen would say something, or better yet, fire me, I'm sure they'd give her a big Fuck You and I'd still have a job there. I can't wait.

I officially hate this machine...
Thursday. 7.29.04 1:59 pm
It's ridiculous how many things are just shitty/go wrong/suck to hell and back this summer. What I'm bitchin about now really isn't that big of a deal, but piled with everything else it just pisses me off. Some of you may recall back when I went and bought Halo, and then dealt with the retard at the "courtesy desk" who wouldn't let me return it. Well, the problem was my video card, so I went online and ordered a new one. The new card came today, so I shut everything down and went to install it, only to discover that the motherboard in my computer doesn't even have a freakin AGP slot in which to install the new video card! So, that amounts to $80 wasted now. I knew Larry got dicked over by Dell back when he got this computer. The original computer was gonna have a Pentium 4 processor, 256MB memory, all around better features, but something retarded happened with the order or something, so they type up something new and Larry agrees to it. So, instead of the original deal, he paid the same amount for a Celeron processor, 128MB memory, integrated video--aka, pretty worthless since the only damn thing you can upgrade, and minimally at that, is the memory! I'm so tired of this summer being shitty; I'm here alone, I'm bored, I'm hardly working, I have no money, my mom's dying...anything else want to suck and be added to my list?! I'm done dealing with any shit anymore. This school year is going be a lot different, or at least I'm gonna go out of my way to make sure it is.

"Zzz...Did I pass?"...
Sunday. 7.25.04 8:11 pm
This weekend was definitely a much needed and very much enjoyable getaway from the doldrums of all things in Williamsport. The memorial service for Cara's grandfather was very nice. From the highly anecdotal tribute given by Cara's aunt, you could very easily tell that Mr. Getty had a great sense of humor, an awesome work ethic, and an excellent sense of family. It made me wish I had gotten to know him better in the past 7 years or so. Later on in the afternoon, Todd finally showed up for us to head down to Philly for the concert. Man, it's always a fun time when any combination of the old school crew gets together for anything, even just sittin around at a Denny's, for example. Without fail, we always end up cracking each other up, usually to the point of crying from laughing so hard. We come up with some of the most random things ever, like the quote I have as the title of this entry. Because I still do not have my driver's license, I'm often a target of harassment. So, Todd was saying that I should go to take my test and pretend to have narcolepsy (which ties in to older jokes about me having narcolepsy from years ago)--get in the car and throw my head back as a narcoleptic fit, then wake up and say "Did I pass?", followed by "That's how I always drive". As with all of our jokes, people that weren't there are often lost to the humor of it. In continuation with sleep-related humor, Todd was making fun of Cara for always falling asleep in the car. Heh, we had stopped at the Sheetz about 2 minutes away from Cara's house in order to withdraw funds for the concert, so Todd joked saying, "Cara, put your shoes on, we're at Sheetz."/"Cara, put your seat belt on."/etc. Those were just a couple of our highly humorous moments. We ended up not really getting lost but not making it to Philly as easily as we hoped. But, we did manage to get to Penn's Landing by 7:30, so we were in good shape. The directions for parking had us basically a mile away (no joke), but it made it easier to get out of there afterwards. The doors opened at 6:30, but when we got in, Three Days Grace was halfway through their set and we had already missed Breaking Benjamin. My guess is that they obviously had started early, probably because of almost cancelling earlier in the day because of the freakin torrential downpour of rain. Oh well, I saw Breaking Benjamin at the spring concert at school, so I wasn't upset about that. I was glad that Three Days Grace was playing, because they weren't listed on the Evanescence tour page for that date for some reason. They were really good. Seether probably would have been better if I had known more than 2 songs of theirs. Last but not least, Evanescence put on a really good show. Brian would have loved it since they did a cover of Korn's "Thoughtless", which was really good. Being, eventually, about 30 yards away from her, I've decided that Amy Lee is uber-hott. So, ladies, if anyone says you look like her, definitely take the compliment. I like the fact that the girl actually has a figure, unlike the Paris Hilton-types and the majority of females with any level of mass popularity.

Man, I've found a new pet peeve--people with cell phones at concerts. Why pay $50 to go to a concert and then be on the phone? "Hey man, I'm at the concert! Listen. 'ILT3WYHT789YEGI3BTIL35UHP98GYEGUH.IUTDEG *cracking signal throughout*". WTF, seriously. Along with that, cell phones are the new lighters. You got to see all of the idiots holding up their backlit cell phones during the slow, ballad-esque songs. On the positive side of it, the idiots are self-identifying, which makes it easier on you since you don't have to figure out who is retarded and can therefore easily avoid encountering one and losing precious I.Q. points. It's like what Bill Engvall says on the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, in regards to his "here's your sign" routine.

On saturday night, we came back home and I called up to Dave's to make sure the shindig was still on, then showered and headed up to Canton for Grant's b-day party. After taking the wrong road, which winded up the mountain and made my mom rather nauseous, we ended up going back to the Acorn Market so I could call and get the directions again. Turns out we were one road off; we turned onto Lower Mtn. Road instead of Upper Mtn. Road. Ho well, we took the right road and I was dropped off by the road so Dave and I could just take the 4-wheeler instead of making my mom more nauseous on the winding unpaved road to the cabin. Since I got there around 10:30, I was a little behind the others, so I was greeted by many beverages. They had a ton of stuff, and none of it was beer, so we all ended up about 40 sheets to the wind (whatever that phrase really means, I dunno). Not very long after being there, I ended up in just my boxers. It was a fun time. I definitely had a black out moment, though. I don't remember anything between the time I layed on the futon to the time I woke up on the couch to grab the blanket, which included me hurling in the downstairs bathroom. Then, even better, I wake up still intoxicated, walk to the bathroom, notice a random red liquid on the bathroom floor which only seems to register as some spilled cleaner or something, then proceed to walk into the room anyway and slip and fall. I'm glad I have absolutely no recollection of that, because I hate throwing up worse than anything else. I was a good party guest and mopped up the floor later on anyway (heh, Dave wouldn't have given me a choice since he handed me the mop bucket, but I would've done it anyway). It was a good party.

After Dave and Amy brought me home earlier today, I made the rounds to check my work schedules. The bullshit saga continues. After talking face to face with my manager last thursday, I'm still not scheduled at the hotel. I've called and left messages, physically left messages, and even talked to her face-to-face and the bitch still hasn't scheduled me. I can't win. Jade was working the front desk, and it was the first time I've talked to her since Christmas time, since I haven't freakin worked at the hotel all summer. Then I stopped at DG to check that, and Karen scheduled me for today, despite the fact I was still off, but remembered she was retarded and got someone to fill in. Outside of that, I've got 2 hours on truck day coming up. AWESOME. 2 hours this week. Beat that.

Sucks to be back. Thankfully this weekend was very nice. I've decided that I'm either doing a summer semester next year, or I'm moving/maybe living with a friend somewhere and getting a job and paying rent, because even then I'm sure I'd make probably 20 times what I'm making (or rather, not making) here this summer.
