Tuesday with papa... part 4
Tuesday. 11.7.06 8:05 am
What is my view about death?

on one particular night, when i was 14 years old, i remembered vividly that i was terribly upset and started tearing when i considered the matter of death in my room... i was totally uncertain about what is going to happen to my parents and I when anyone of us dies... i was fearful of dying for it brings so much uncertainty... i told my mom about it and to the best of her knowledge, she was only able to pat me on my shoulders and comfort me by saying that things will be fine... she was not able to offer me an absolute answer...at that point in time, i ask myself if i will ever get an answer?

within a matter of weeks when the daily hustle and bustle of life slowly distracted me from the fear of death, the answer came in the most unexpected way... i love to eat candies and i frequently patronised a candy store near my house. the middle aged lady who was maning the store eventually became my friend. it was on an ordinary night when i was having a conversation with her that she provided the answer to the biggest question in my life: it comes from a bible verse from the Gospel of John chapter 3 verse 16, For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life! call it simple faith or a desperate acceptance of any desirable answer but the verse really liberated me from the fear of death!

the rest is history as i found out more about God and why death has to come... i now have the fullest confidence in where i would be going after i die and i am now brave enough to confront death face to face! In fact, i have accepted it as a part of life and not a mysterious full stop. God has shown me that He has put eternity in the heart of man... we are created to live on forever... our body is just a shell to hold our spirit.... when we die, our physical body may be cremated or buried but our spirit, our soul lives on... where we spend eternity will simply depend on what we believe when we are alive today... the physical brain of einstein is still perserved and studied today for special characteristics but they failed to realise that the genius is no longer there when death cometh... he had left... what is left is just an empty "sponge"...

death is no longer a taboo to me. I don't feel unlucky about attending a funeral... in fact, as far as possible, i would usually bring all my kids along as well and carry them to view the face of the deceased in the coffin and explain to them about death. i wanted them to accept the idea of death with open arms...

nevertheless, i now treasure my life more, not because i am afraid of dying but simply realising the fact that death marks the end of a short and only chance to live this physical life chapter in the span of eternity and begin the new chapter of my life in eternity future...

next week, let's talk about family... :D

my cycle of life...
Sunday. 11.5.06 2:37 am
a thought about my own cycle of life:

when i was young, i GROW by learning to be dependent on others... my parents would feed me, clean me up, pay for my everything...

when i am older, i GROW by learning to be independent... I would do things on my own, i would pay for my own things, I would bear the consequences of my own actions...

when i am old enough to be married, i GROW by learning to be interdependent with my spouse... we decide and do things together, we build our home together, we go through thick and thin together...

when i am old enough to be a papa, i GROW by learning to let my kids be dependent on me... i now feed them, clean them up, pay for their everything...

when i am old enough to be a grandpa, i GROW by learning to let my kids be independent of me... i would encourage them to move out and set up their own families, i would encourage them to bring up their own children on their own and not simply dump their children to me :P

when i am of a ripe old age and physically too weak to move, i GROW by learning to be dependent on others again... someone would have to feed me, clean me up and pay for my everything... i guess it's back to the good old days when i was first born again...

what goes round comes around... :D

tuesday with papa... part 3
Wednesday. 11.1.06 6:36 am
Do I have any regrets in life?

regrets come about when we look back in life and consider what we have done wrongly or what we have not done when we should have done it and constantly feel remorseful about it...

looking back and knowing that i am not a perfect man, there are definitely things that i have done wrongly or have not done at all... but i have no regrets in life...
who i am today is the result of all my past actions and decisions... whether good or bad, i have decided to learn from them and be a better man... no use crying over spilled milk... i just need to be careful when handling the next glass of milk in life...to me, life is full of glasses of milk :D

having regrets and not letting them go will only cause me to be dissatisfied with my current state of life. regrets would only cause me to end up lamenting that I would have been "better" if only I had done this and that back then... I would only end up not progressing in life since I am always looking back and feeling sad...

the only regret in life is to have regrets in the first place :P

next tuesday: let's talk about death...
