Santa's Workshop - Inside Europe's slave labor toy factories in China
Thursday. 11.30.06 5:30 pm
I could not figure out how to use the BB code or post videos here so I am making a post here with a link to my other blog. Just in time for christmas! When shoppers here in Canada, USA and Europe are busy buying gifts trying to get the best deal possible but hold on think about that great deal that you just got. Where do you think it was made? Who do you think made it? This video I found on Google is a very informative 32 minutes. A bit long to wait in front of the computer but an excellent piece that deserves your attention.
The video Santa's Workshop takes you to the real world of China's toy factories. Workers tell us about long working hours, low wages, and dangerous work places. Those who protest or try to organize trade unions risk imprisonment. Low labour costs attract more and more companies to China. Today more than 75% of our toys are made in China. But this industry takes its toll on the workers and on the environment. The European (and American) buyers blame bad conditions on the Chinese suppliers. But they say that increasingly hard competition gives them no option. Who should we believe? And what can you do to bring about a fairer and more humane toy trade?
From now on we need to be aware of where the things are comming from and who is making them. Part of the problem is that the consumer is just not aware of these things. With education maybe there is hope.

Vistor traffic VS clickers
Saturday. 11.25.06 9:24 pm
I publish on several blogs and maintain several websites and I find the biggest problem with traffic generating sites like Blog Mad is they maximize the number of clickers rather than the number of real vistors. Clickers are just people who want the points for traffic for their site, basically the selfish type who profit for themselves. Real genuine traffic are people who really read your site. I wondered for a long time how to distinguish between the two, it really is not too difficult. If your site is properly tagged with meta tags, friendly towards search engines, has lots of fresh content and use use google analytics then you can see what keywords people are searching for and what people are reading etc etc. These are real visitors who find you using keywords that you write about. They are the visitors who are likely to spend more time, return to your site and sometimes even link you. Precisely what every web publisher wants. Ofcourse every web publisher who starts out new has to begin somewhere so traffic exchange sites offer a good starting point but do not always have very reliable traffic. If the clickers comment on your site it is often for their benefit and therefore the comments are somewhat stupid like: "Great site", "Cool", "keep up the good work" , and/or "do you want to create a link exchange". These are not genuine comments and are just for the clicker to gain extra points (traffic) for themselves. I can say I have caught myself doing this stupid habit but now I am kicking the habit. If you have nothing to say then don't comment rather than cluttering up the other peoples sites with trash.

Traffic Exchange sites for Blogs
Wednesday. 11.22.06 6:15 pm
Here is a posting about three different traffic generating sites for blogs, (http://www.blogexplosion.com/index.php?ref=bmorrill)Blog Explosion,
(http://www.blogmad.net/?ref=fbd47e4d6a01607)Blog Mad and (http://www.blogadvance.com/?ref=1513)Blog Advance.

It has been quite sometime now and I have had the chance to use each one of them and get to know each of them relatively well. Blog Explosion was the first I signed up to and it still is in my opinion one of the largest sites that offers a lot of different ways in which the user can gain or win credits to exchange for traffic for their blog but I find pages still to be a bit slow when browsing blogs or just browsing the site. Browsing credits are small but you can get full control out of assigning credits. One cool thing about this site is that you can earn bonus credits kind of like BlogAdvance while you are surfing these range from 2 to the most I've earned was 25 points! On the other hand BlogMad gives credits away just for being a member! Blog Mad was my second site I signed up to, probably the newest of the three. Blog Mad and BlogAdvance both offer the highest credit ratio of 1:1, for every blog you read someone can read yours. BlogAdvance soes give you the chance to earn 1.5:1 on promotional days. An amazing system as I have had upto 100 hits a day on my blogs. The pages on BlogMad are relatively quick to load as compared to Blog Explosion but I find if you are not constantly reading and getting credit for blogs your credits can go into the negative there is a way around this but I never bothered with it. What I don't like is that it is a little difficult to activate/deactivate certain blogs in Blog Mad unlike Blog Explosion. In Blog Explosion and Blog Advance it is just a simple procedure of assigning credits, when there are no more credits, your account becomes zero rather than negative. Very impressive ranking system on Blog Mad where you have to work up credits to reach a certain goal. Each rank requires a certain number of credits and has different incentives to work for. A real fun site! The third site I signed up to is Blog Advance. I think they have been around for quite sometime now much like Blog Explosion but their credits for reading blogs is a bit higher than Blog Explosion and the pages are quite quick to navigate though. An extra that Blog Advance offers is paid clicking, no not money but credits. I think these are sites that pay to have their banners displayed in a location where if you click and view their blog you can earn anywheres from 1.0 to 1.5 credits sometimes 2, a nice little bonus. In Blog Advance you can assign credits like Blog Explosion so that you don't go into the negative. All sites offer you games to play as well as blog viewing for credit. Blog Explosion and Blog Advance are a bit more comercially oriented in that you can buy credits but on the other hand they are much more fully developed than Blog Mad.

How many can you identify?
Tuesday. 11.21.06 11:51 pm

Well how many can you identify? I often wondered how many different varieties of fruit can the people identify based on country statistics. Would northerner's not be able to identify as many as people for tropical climates.
