I like this quote. Kind of a reality check for me. Focus on the positives and not the negatives.

Can't seem to get my 10 year old to bed before 10:00 at night. Then my 13 year old does not get to bed until midnight, which puts me and their dad getting to bad around 2:00 AM. Not a good cycle to be in. Not sure what caused us to get so off track and my attempts to get the family back on track is being met with LOTS of resistance.

Part of the trouble seems to be the unreal amount of homework teachers give kids today. I mean I believe homework is good to a point, but not when you come home from being at school for 8 hours and then have to spend another 4 to 5 hours more on homework.

Kids need to have a life outside of school to just be kids and have fun. Maybe Daddy and I can plan something fun for this weekend.

So I overheard this conversation:

younger sibling to older sibling: "I have a friend who is real unhappy. They don't like who they are or anything about their life. They want to leave and go some where else and start a different life. They asked me what I thought and I did not know what to say. What should I have told them? Should I tell my teacher or mom?"

older sibling to younger sibling: "Do you like them as a person?"

younger sibling: "yes."

older sibling: "Then mabe you should tell them how you feel about them and that you would be sad if they were not around."

younger sibling: "Oh. I did not think about that. I will do that. But what if they dont listen and still want to leave? If I dont tell someone and they really leave, want it be my fault?"

older sibling: "Maybe the person just needs to be told that they do matter to people, including you, and you would be real sad if they were not around. Maybe you should ask them what exactly is making them sad and try to help them or get them to ask someone who can help to help them. I guess if even after you talk to them and they still seem set on leaving, then yes you should tell an adult."

younger sibling: "Ok."

Now what am I suppose to do as a mother? They were having a private chat that I, without them being aware, overheard. Do I confront them and demand them to tell me who the child is so I can make sure the proper people are told?

I just have to write to say that Nutang is great!!! The people that write here are just awesome and I have to make a special comment about randomjunk cause her writings are just the greatest! Today I read her post about PMS and it has definitely made my mood meter rise back up. She not only made me smile and laugh, but she made my week. So thanks randomjunk. You are the coolest!!!!! I have heard that everyone needs a "vice". For some people it made sweets, caffine or whatever. Mine is now nutang. No matter how down I may feel once I have logged on here I read something or get a comment that just totally lifts my spirits! I can't leave out middaymoon either because he is just one of the most unique people I have ever met. The guy definitely makes a difference in the world!
