Positive Work Update..FINALLY!
Monday. 4.7.08 10:38 am
So many changes at work but I've been too busy working to post about them til now so here's a relatively quick summary.
It's no secret that my scheduled 48 hours/week at my day job had turned into 59 hours one week and 62 two other weeks. Pulling extra unscheduled shifts when someone didn't show up and/or being called in 2.5 hours early.
But last Sunday my boss called me during my shift and told me to call our third shift worker to ask him to work Sunday night when he was scheduled off because she had three interviews scheduled on Monday morning so we could fill our roster and we wouldn't be constantly killing ourselves with hours. So I get him to work Sunday in exchange for our store manager working for him on Monday night which would make her relieve me.
He works third shift on Sunday night then our first shifter had to call out because she didn't have a babysitter. I know in a previous entry I said that she was taking her daughter in there or else she'd have to call out. Well our store manager said that if she didn't have a babysitter that she'd have to call out. So Brad understood and he figured that he could use the hours. He thought that he'd cover til our manager finished up her interviews and then she would cover until I got there at 2pm. Well she never showed up. All three interviewees came in. Brad tried calling our manager 4 times. No answer.
I came in for my shift and relieved him. He was understandably very pissed at our manager. At 7pm I called our manager to make sure that she'd be coming in to relieve me. She answered on the first ring and tried rushing me off the phone. I asked her if I'd have a reliever. She said that she'd look into it and hung up. WTF? SHE was my relief. There's nothing to look into!
I knew I was screwed.
She never showed up so I worked third shift. I'd had only 3 hours sleep in the previous 48 hours. I wasn't expecting to work more than 16 hours straight. Luckily the first shift worker was able to come in. I waited on the clock until 8am when our District Manager becomes available. I told him that our manager made me call Brad to make him switch so that she could do the interviews. She never showed for the interviews. This also made her responsible to work his Monday night shift for which she never showed.
I ended up working from 2pm Monday until 9:30am Tuesday.
But on the phone he told me that I'd get an unscheduled raise but didn't know how much he could get for us. But he kept telling me how appreciative they were of Brad and I doing what we did all along to keep shifts covered and all.
The next day I go in and I meet our new covering manager. He's the manager of another store from pretty far away. So he has to cover two stores and his store is shortstaffed as it is and has to cover shifts there regularly himself. He informed me that we were approved for a 50 cent raise! This may not sound like much to some people but I'd just gotten my yearly raise two months ago and in 2.5 months I'm up for my next raise. So that rocks.
More than that...he told me that because he's so busy with his other store he finally wants to get an Assistant Manager for our store to help him out. He said that he and our District Manager wanted to have me take the position but they had to wait to hear from the higherups of course. But he said that he isn't the kind of person to simply just mention things...they have to be a close to a sure thing for him to bring anything up. He told me that we should have a conversation later this week about it. I pray!
Wish me luck!
I didn't hear the actual pay for the position but he told me that it's quite a raise from what I am making now..and that's even with my 50 cent raise factored in. MORE money and a flexible schedule...you know I've been in need of those forever!
Here's hoping!
Also..another update. I finally received the duplicate of my title! So I just have to send it and the car keys in and I'll receive my money! Which should put me right on track to get my car mid-may to have for moving and all.
Gotta shower!
Thanks for stopping by.
Have a great day.
Leave love! =0)

Well...
For the first time in two months or so I have a little over 24 hours without work. Normally I work 2-10pm on Fridays and then go in to my night job as soon as I get home. I had told one of my coworkers and my boss yesterday morning that I'd worked there so many hours this week that I didn't need to work tonight (friday night) at AllStar. Well while I was alone at work Chad called to tell me that they had enough coverage on Friday so while they'd need me on Saturday night, I could have the night off from my night job on Friday. Then my boss called the store later in the shift to ask me if I could 11am until 7pm so that I could help her out with some stuff around the store. I agreed...for the following reason...
I have off from 7pm tonight until at least 10pm tomorrow (Saturday) night. Saturday is my one day off from the Hess station this week. Then I work at least 2-10pm the rest of the week from Sunday through Friday.
Id kinda like to take Saturday off from the night job because I still technically work every day since I'll get a couple hours in on Saturday. But if they need me, I'll be there as I want to keep the job. Because:
My boss at the day job spent her first day back (yesterday) calling a whole bunch of applicants about coming in for interviews to staff back up. So then I'd most likely go back to 37 hours/week with two days off. So I'd need the night job at least two nights...even if it's JUST Friday and Saturday which would even give me two actual full days off...but the extra money. And I'm afraid that if I don't go in when they NEED me now, they'll be forced to get someone else in and there goes my extra hours there. And while we have plans put into motion to get me a car anyway and the current apartment plan with my mom shouldn't require a whole lot of extra money..I still want the extra money to keep padding my account and help me get the best vehicle that I possibly can.
Normally I go to Center City on Saturday to cash my paycheck since it usually comes in the mail on Friday afternoon while I'm at work so I have to wait until Saturday to cash it. But getting home earlier allowed me to get my check, catch the next train to CC, cash the check in the ATM at my bank and catch a train home. So that's off my list for tomorrow. The only thing that I should be doing is my laundry which will take up about an hour and a half of the day and that isn't quite accurate as I come back here while my wash is in the washer then the dryer. So if all goes as planned I will hopefully finally produce the second part of my jury duty entry.
Beside that Chad and I should be able to work on and hopefully finalize at least one of our new songs. And we need to work on playing together full-tilt together again as the next Tuesday that I have off from Hess we'll be playing a full-blown semi-acoustic set at the night job. FREE FOOD. No pay for it. But we get food for free. And all of our coworkers are excited for it AND they are telling us that they'll get their friends to come see us which should help us get some attention and new 'fans' for when we start playing as a full band again.
Aside from that I intend to sleep in a bit. Relax. Rest. And watch the handful of movies that I want to watch on OnDemand. But make certain that I rest up as who knows what my current 48 hour schedule at Hess this week will turn out to be =0)
That's it for now. Please leave love. I will love ya back.
Smile.
I'm trying to.
