One day away from a genesis...
Saturday. 8.28.04 12:38 am
I haven't updated my journal all week because I've been sleeping most of the day and working all night at the HO-tel. I didn't mind working every night this week, since I can always use more money in the bank account. Today was basically the only day with anything remotely exciting about it. I went and got a haircut before I went to work. I got it cut short and hott (naturally). I sat in the pin trading room all night tonight and poured complimentary beer and soda for people. It's normally boring as hell, but since there were no little league world series games today, there were a ton of people in the room and they tipped me. I ended up getting $24 and a sweet Crown Royal bag.

On a different note, I find it interesting how people (girls, more specifically) that never talked to me in high school (or I've never seen before) now go out of their way to talk to me. I must be turning into a hottie or something. Tonight, for example, I took an empty soda canister out of the room and into the back kitchen area and ran into the shot girl, Crystal, who graduated the year behind me. She did a double-take, looked at my name tag, then smiled and asked me how I'm doing, etc. I definitely never talked to her in high school. Ho well, I just find it interesting.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I met Bon Jovi's son. Why he would choose to come to the world series, I have no idea, but then again, the president/vice president show up, so who knows. You could tell the relation by the frosted hair *shudders*.

Silliness...
Sunday. 8.22.04 9:34 pm
Well kids, I've been out and about hanging out with friends for the past 5 days or so, and it has been most excellent. On Tuesday I went up to Canton to hang out with Dave and Amy for one last time this summer. To go on and describe what we did, there wasn't anything crazy or weird or perhaps exciting for other people to read, but that's what's awesome about hanging out with good friends--you can do practically nothing, yet still have an awesome time. For the most part, the trip was comprised of Dave and me playing games on the comp, watching family guy, jammin in the basement, and eating. There were some really cool events, for instance; I talked to Alfonse Ciaccio (sp?), whom I remember from way back when I was about 5 and lived in Ralston. Alfonse is an amazing guitar player, and I remember always captively listening to him play 12-string acoustic during the church services back then. He didn't remember me, but that's cool. I was so little back then and didn't exactly talk to him, just knew who he was. Another fun event was horsing around in Wal-Mart, playing scooter dodgeball (aka, me throwing a ball at Dave as he rode through the aisles on a scooter). On our way back to Canton from Wal-Mart, we stopped and snagged one of those construction things with the blinking lights on them (there wasn't anything dangerous to which it was calling attention, so there wasn't any harm in "moving" it). We settled for that since we never got our hands on an electric screwdriver. I haven't given up hope on that sign; we'll get it someday.

I came home thursday night, then left Friday morning to head down to Carlisle. Naturally, we made the stop at the Amish market along the way to pick up some cheese baked bread and whatnot. We made it to Carlisle around 11 or so and chilled with my aunt Jeannette and cousin Hope. I knew Brian was working, so the original plan was to call Glick. Heh, so I called Glick but she was under house arrest of sorts because her mom thought she wouldn't be ready to go back to college in time (a week from now). So, I just stayed at my aunt's house and ended up watching almost 3 movies until Brian was off of work and we were gonna meet up with the others. We got ahold of Alyssa and eventually Glick and Cara, so Brian and I headed to Denny's. As usual, Brian has his box of cards, so we ordered some food and started playing Magic while we waited for everyone else to get there. shortly after Alyssa gets there, our waitress comes and tells us we have to put the cards away because something the manager said, so Brian asks to talk to the manager. She comes over and says it's the law, we could be gambling (how does one gamble playing Magic?), etc., so Brian says we're gonna cancel the part of our orders that we didn't get yet cuz we were leaving. Craziness. We've always hung out at Denny's, and I've playing Magic there numerous times. Ho well. Alyssa was hanging out in Lancaster with someone, so she left, then we left and met up with Glick and Cara at the Waffle House (and saw a car fully engulfed in flames alongside the road on the way!). The Waffle House was fun times; it's guaranteed that it'll be a good time when the old group of friends from church camp get together cuz we're so ridiculous. I had forgotten how awesome Megan Glick is. This weekend was the first time both Brian and I had hung out with her in at least 2 years or so. We busted out a deck of playing cards and screwed like the old days. The best was me slapping a pair of 8's and Megan looking confused and saying "I didn't know we were playing with that rule", which was hilarious since slapping doubles is the crux of the game. After the monsoon subsided and we finished gorging ourselves, we bid farewell to Glick and Cara and went down to Lancaster to hang out with some of Brian's friends. They were cool people, we sat around and made fun of Brian's ex and her friend, had bottles of Rolling Rock, watched Orgasmo, and rocked out in their basement.

Saturday started off early since Brian had work at 8:30. I had forgotten why I hate beer so damn much until I woke up and had that yeast-growing-in-my-throat feeling that's oh so lovely. Since I made almost no plans for the weekend, I would've just sat around most of the day, but I worked with Brian. I could hack it working for Party Central, settin up tents and all that fun stuff. It was an easy day, so we would've been done really early, but the torrential downpour in the middle of setting up tents slowed us down a bit. Later on we went out to the company picnic and had some food, made fun of people, played hacky sack for a good half hour or more, then played volleyball (poorly) for quite a while. The people seem cool, and I got the same impressions of everyone that Brian had mentioned beforehand. After that we went to Cara's house where Brian, Todd, Cara, Glick and I watched Buying the Cow, which was a funny, good movie. After the movie we went to the Middlesex Diner and surely created quite a ruckus. It's unbelievible when you have all of us together; we were all cracking jokes and laughing our asses off. I think the most hilarious thing was these B. Moss fliers they had up at the counter. The slogan on the front says "It's never too early to think about being cool!". Hahahahaha, we all lost it. The company has to know how funny that is. Perhaps that's their trick. I dunno, it's absolutely hilarious, regardless. After the diner we went back to Cara's and watched tv for a bit then left around 2 and passed out not long after getting back to the ghetto.

It was nice to sleep in this morning. I got up and played some Megaman 2, NES style, then showered, then went with Brian to dump the mess of wood and leaves and everything they cleaned from their backyard after the storm. We went and dumped it where Brian's friend/Jen's ex-bf Kris works, talked to that crackhead for a little, then hit up Sheetz. Alyssa is a lazy bum and had just woken up at 2 something, so she declined the road trip to Wil Po idea with Brian and me. So, I got ahold of my mom and we thought about going to see The Village since Brian highly recommends it. We didn't get to my aunt's house until 10 of 4, and the movie started at 4, so we didn't go. Brian left, then I hung out at the house with my aunt and cousin and my other cousin Shawn and his fiancee for a while. We left around 5:30, hit up the Chinese buffet near school (and saw a whole group of SU people, 'twas weird), then came home afterwards. We stopped at the Radisson to check the schedule, and I wasn't expecting any hours, but I'm down for a little over 20. Works for me.

Excuse my ADD train of thought, but I was just thinking about something funny. It's funny how pissed people get by hearing the truth. A good example of this Brian was telling me involves this guy he works with, Vic, whom even I can tell must be a douche. Most people, unless they're just a complete fucktard, don't get bothered when they get made fun of, like being called a retard or crackhead or whatever, but when you make fun of them by saying something that's true, they get royally pissed. For example, Brian makes fun of Vic all the time (and it's always warranted), especially when it's a hot day and everyone's busting their ass and tired and Vic says something to Brian about being beat. Without hesitation, Brian lays it on him, commenting on how could he be beat when he drives around in a truck with AC and barely does anything? When someone does get pissed, it waves a flag that whatever was said is true and they're either ashamed or embarassed or something about it, otherwise they wouldn't have such a strong reaction about it.

"Knife's classy like Clark Gable"...
Saturday. 8.14.04 10:06 pm
The past 48 hours have been fun, save really minor annoyances/geek outs. Friday started off with DG calling and having a shitty attitude about which job's my priority and how are they supposed to schedule me, blah blah. I was kinda surprised by this, because it was Valerie, the manager I thought was cool, who I worked with at the Hepburn St. store for two days last week. Well, my hotel manager wasn't in, and the schedule hadn't been posted yet, so I couldn't tell her when I worked, and couldn't reach her anyway since the line was busy when I tried. So, I went to the Radisson and, without even trying, busted the shit out in 2.5 hours and was done at 4:30 instead of the scheduled 6. After that I stopped at Totem and bought a new circular barbell to replace the cheap one that is missing a ball, then stopped in at DG to resolve that crap. Alice was there, so I went back and picked up my check, then I told her how I couldn't reach Valerie and didn't know my schedule and everything, and she just said "oh, ok" like it was no big deal. Here, Valerie just went ahead and scheduled me for Sunday and Tuesday anyway, so why the hell did she make such a big deal out of needing to know when I worked and all that happy horse shit? Oh well. Having to work tomorrow kinda sucks because I would've just stayed up at Dave's longer and chilled with him and Amy and probably Grant. Before I get to that, I came home and got my stuff together and then went to put in my new barbell. Clumsy fuck me, I do this by the sink (as I always do), but I'm having a harder time since the ring is internally threaded and the screw on the end of the ball is about a centimeter long, so I drop it and immediately throw my hand down to stop it from rolling down the drain. In the process of doing that, the other ball comes out of the little package and rolls, but I thought I managed to stop both of them. So, I lift my hand a little to check and only see only ball, and as I do this, that one rolls away and down the drain. Naturally, I'm pissed at myself for being such a fucktard. So, as we head out, I stop at Totem once again to buy two more balls for the barbell. Cost myself $10 for being a tard. After getting everything settled, went up to Dave's. We hung out and listened to some music (I brought a Raul Midon bootleg with me), laughed our asses off listening to Dane Cook, Amy went and picked up calzone and stromboli, we watched some Family Guy, got out some drinks after a while, and I ended up starting to write a song about silverware. We collaborated a bit and finished the ridiculous lyrics and recorded my guitar part, then did vocals today. I must say, I think it turned out really well. I've dubbed it Weekend at Damy's - "Silverware Affair". Heh, it's good stuff. It's the first recording of me singing, and I even do some harmony. Craziness, I know. We didn't end up getting the sign because we were having too much fun amusing ourselves with the song. I think I'm gonna go back up Tuesday after I'm done at DG and stay til Thursday, then go down to Harrisburg/Carlisle on Friday. Gotta get that sign before summer's over! Anyway, Amy and Dave brought me back to Wil Po, and we stopped at Subway, and I went to pay and realized my bank card wasn't in my wallet. Naturally, I'm freaking out, but I apparently hide such things really well because they both commented to my mom that I was so calm and nonchalant about my card missing. After we ate and got to my house, I called Totem and asked if they found a card, and thankfully they did. So, we drove over and I picked it up and the woman there gave me a sharpie pen to finally sign the back of it. I can't believe how careless and clumsy I was on Friday. It's kinda scary that I didn't even know my card was gone until 24 hours after the fact. I finally have some money in the bank. With my pitiful $85 check for 19.25 hours at DG deposited, I have a little over $100 (since I ended up paying $40 for the circular barbell and the replacement balls), and I'll have a nice check coming from the Radisson this week. I'm more than ready to be done. If I don't get a call from DG about when to go in for truck (like this past week), then screw it, I'll just be done completely. I plan on telling them anyway that tuesday's my last day. I gave them a two week's notice when I started working, in the sense that i told them when I'd be leaving for school, so that shouldn't be an issue, plus the guys still there want the extra hours anyway. I'll be done with it tuesday, then go away and spend the last days of summer being with friends. Sounds good to me.

Today has been an awesome day thus far, and it's not even 2pm. I was woken up at 8am, which was a bit rough since I didn't go to bed til 3am (because I was not aware I'd be getting up so early). It's a bit of a conundrum, I'm very much so a night person, but I feel good when I start my day early. I'm weird, what can I say? Anyway, I showered and had a bowl of cheerios (I've been consciously eating breakfast more and more, to balance out the day) then got dressed to head to the doctor's for my physical. I was pleasantly surprised when I weighed in--I weigh 184 lbs. That means I've lost 20 lbs. in 3 months, because I was around 205+ in May (and upwards of 215 during the semester). That was definitely awesome news. Naturally, nothing's wrong with me and so the physical went fine. After that, I picked up my check from the hotel for the 3 hours I worked last Friday. My check was $22. Now, most people probably think, "yeah, so? wtf?", but to put it into perspective, I've already gotten $50 paychecks for a week at DG. I can't wait until next week; if I made $22 for 3 hours, and I'm gonna end up with about 20 for this week...hott gram. I'll be able to save back much needed funds. Then, to finish out my excellent day so far, I had Chinese for lunch. Good stuff.

At the river's end...
Tuesday. 8.10.04 11:43 pm
Summer's winding down. Looking back on the past 3 months, I'm not gonna miss the time. Now, of course I enjoyed all of my weekend trips, hanging out with my friends, etc., but I won't "miss" them because they are ranked highly among the few things I will remember and enjoy from this summer. This week has become rather fortunate for me. I'll end up with about 20 hours at the Radisson this week, which actually amounts to making some money, unlike DG. Why do I like expensive things? I have a few things I want to purchase before school/sometime in the relatively near future, such as a new circular barbell from Totem ($30) to replace the cheap one I have that no longer has the one ball screwed onto the end of it, as well as trucks ($40) for my skateboard so I can actually get some use out of the thing, and I'd like new frames ($100?), but that won't happen before I go back to school. To close out the last few weeks before school, I'm planning on going up to Damy's one last time and making a trip to the Harrisburg/Carlisle area. Stealing a huge Subway sign and beefing up my computer, as well as seeing my friends will be a good way to end this summer.
