Bored.com is really a good site if you're bored out of your mind. That is where I found a link for some stupid laws that are in the United States. Here is the list for West Virginia.

• According to the state constitution, it is unlawful for anyone to own a red or a black flag.
• Alderson: One may not walk a lion, tiger or leopard, even on a leash.
• A person may not hold public office if they have ever taken part in a duel. A person may be jailed for up to six months for making fun of someone who does not accept a challenge.
• Doctors and dentists may not place a woman under anesthesia unless a third person is present.
• Huntington: Firemen may not whistle or flirt at any woman passing a firehouse. It is legal to beat your wife so long as it is done in public on Sunday, on the courthouse steps.

• In Alderson, West Virginia, it is illegal to walk a lion, tiger or leopard in the city limits, even it is on a leash.
• In Nicholas County, W. Va., no member of the clergy is allowed to tell jokes or humerous stories from the pulpit during a church service.
• In West Virginia it is illegal to dig for ginseng on your neighbor's lawn without their permission.
• In West Virginia, it is legal for one to take roadkill home for dinner
• In West Virginia you cannot fly a red flag in front of your house if you are disappointed in your sherrif.

labor day entry.
Monday. 9.3.07 6:57 pm
All right, so we all know that Labor Day is a day that we get off of school and work, but do we really know what the day is about? Most people know what Memorial Day and Veterans Day mean, but what about Labor Day? I myself wasn't really sure if I fully understood it or remembered, so I did a little google search, and this is what I came up with:

Unlike most other holidays recognized in the United States, or in any other country for that matter, Labor Day is not based on a battle or war fought, and does not recognize one particular person or event. It is a celebration of the working force, and the economic and social achievements made by American workers. The first Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882. Two years later, it was decided that the holiday be celebrated on the first Monday of September, as it has been ever since.

I have enjoyed my day off from school. I think. I took some cold medicine that knocked me out for a while, and I guess I am feeling a little better. Back to school tomorrow. Joy. But really, it isn't so bad. I only have two classes, so I don't feel I have as much reason to complain as compared to my friends who are taking AP Calculus and AP Chemistry and English 104 or whatever number that is. I am only taking Political Science 1103 and a honors Environmental Earth class, and those are nothing compared to the classes that I mentioned that my friends are taking. So, I feel rather lucky to be sort of slacking off and not having a lot to do this semester. There's nothing wrong with taking it easy now, is there? No, I didn't think so either.

it's been awhile.
Sunday. 9.2.07 12:00 pm
All right, so I've been neglecting this blog for a little while, but it just seemed like it was one thing after the other and then by the time I actually got to a computer, I was too tired to even think about posting. But, I am here again and ready to update and catch up on everything that's happened since I last posted. Here we go...

Friday, after the whole Bob Incident, I wake up to my friend Becky saying my name and then crawling into my bed. Lovely. I had a doctor's appointment that morning, so me and Becky and my mom all crowded into the little room and waited for my doctor to come and tell me the results of my MRI. Oh, by the way, MRIs suck. Anyway, turns out that my head and everything was okay. There are these two little things in my neck that are out of line, though, and they said it wasn't anything serious, that it might just cause some discomfort. The one doctor said that it looked like I had been in a car crash, which I haven't, so I'm going to guess that it was caused by one of the times I've fallen off of my horse.

After we were done at the hospital, we headed over to Best Buy. Becky and I bought some CDs, and then we ran into our friend, Cody. After talking to him for a while, we all decided to meet up at the mall. haha. Once we were there, we walked until we found the KayBee Toys and then we went in and played with all the toys. Some people would call that immature, but we had a blast. Cody left us then, so me and Beck headed over to Bath and Body Works and smelled all the "try me" things, chose which one we liked, then sprayed ourselves with the body spray and rubbed on the moisturizer.

The pretzel place was our next stop, and that is when my mom met back up with us and I did some school shopping. Great. After buying some jeans, we decided to conclude our day out with dinner at Back Bay, a local seafood restaurant. That's where the real fun was. You see, my birthday was August 8, and we me, my mom and dad, and my friend Caity all went to Back Bay then too. They got the bright idea to have the waitors sing happy birthday to me, and it was more than just embarrassing. Mom kept telling Becky how great it was while we were there on that Friday, so when she had to go to the restroom, Beck and I decided to have some fun. I flagged down a waitress, told her it was my mom's birthday, and the plan was set into motion. Later on, we hear this clapping, and Mom looks at me and asked where they were going, and all I said was, "Happy Birthday, Mom."

I got the scariest glare ever the whole time they were singing, but I hardly noticed because I was laughing so hard. Becky and I have pulled pranks on my mom before, but that was by far the greatest. Mom swears that she'll pay us back one day, but that's okay. Beck an I have heard it all before.

We went home that night and watchined Wild Hogs, then me and Beck stayed up until around 4 just talking and laughing and all that. The next morning, we started watching some of Scary Movie 4, but then she left and I don't really remember what I did the rest of the day. Sunday, I went to my grandparents house for a late Christmas with a family friend. Those are always nice.

Monday, I went out on a trail ride with my friend Caity. We took her horses, and it was really fun. We didn't do a whole lot of running because I didn't really think I could handle it, but we had fun just talking and riding. There was this tree though that really got me. I don't know how to describe it, but the branches were all hanging down and Precious, the horse I was one, just ran right through them. I put my head down so that the braches would hit my helmet, and to try and push those branches out of the way, I put my arm up. Bad idea. Precious and I got through the branches, but I had, and still have, cuts all the way down my arm. Battle scars, baby! haha. The rest of the trail ride went smoothly, with the exception of this one dog running at us. Fortunately, it was on a chain and the horses didn't even seem to notice.

Tuesday was the first day of school, that last first day of high school for me! Senior year!! My schedule isn't bad at all. First period, I'm an office assistant for one of the principals. All I've done so far is take phone messages and file papers. Second period is political science. The teacher is really awesome, though I did almost fall asleep during lecture yesterday. Third period, I have science. I don't really know a lot of people in there, but I've made new friends by the names of Natalie and Bridget. They're juniors, and I haven't gotten a lot of opportunities to talk to them before, but they're pretty cool people. After third period, I go to C lunch which I have with Caity and Becky and some other people that I know. When the bell rings to tell us that our lunch is over, I head off to fourth period, where I am a student aide for another teacher, which isn't hard at all. I get to help withe computer stuff and write junk on the board. That's my day in a nutshell.

During the last week, my mom and I tried to paint my room. I think we worked on it one night, and then we just stopped. Misty and my mom finished it on Friday, and then Mom and I spent a good part of yesterday putting it back together.

So, that's what I've been up to, and I hope to be able to get back on here as often as I was now that things are settling down and my room is back in order. [=

a moment of silence.
Thursday. 8.23.07 11:18 pm
Let us all observe a moment of silence for Bob, my family's 04' Christmas tree.

Yes, I name our Christmas trees, and yes, Bob has been gone for years. But, before we took Bob down and out to the burn pile, I snipped off the end of one of his branches. I pressed said part of branch in some encyclopedias, wanting to preserve some small part of what was in my opinion the most awesome evergreen ever.

I had this pressed piece of Bob lying on my stand beside of my computer desk, and my mother decided to get the hose attachment for the vacuum cleaner and run it through my room. I was IMing with a friend, talking over our class schedules, when I hear this weird sound from the hose. I knew Mom had got something, and then I realized what it was. It was Bob! She took the vacuum and tried to salvage the branch, but there was nothing left but pine needles....

random forensics junk.
Thursday. 8.23.07 1:15 am
If you've read any of my previous posts, you know that I've been quite the procrastinator and have been putting off school work up until the very last minute. I'm up late doing my forensics work, and I thought I'd share some random information. It may not be all that interesting to some of you, but it's what I'm doing, it's my blog, and I feel like posting it, so there. haha. ;] Enjoy.

• A compromised crime scene is no joke. In 1970, investigators sent to handle the Jeffrey MacDonald case were extremely careless. The crime scene was not secured, therefore allowing civilians to come and go as they pleased. The bodies of MacDonald's murdered wife and children were moved before outlines were drawn, preventing the reconstruction of the scene as evidence. Investigators used the phones, items in the kitchen, and pretty well screwed up any real evidence they had. Want to read more? Here's the source I've used. http://www.karisable.com/mac2.htm

• "Eyeprints", also known as iris or retinal scans, are better than fingerprints when it comes to accuracy and speed. The likelihood of two people having the same iris is one in ten to the 78th power. The disadvantages are that a lot of people seem to think that having their eye scanned is a little too intrusive, there isn't enough funding, and apparently both user and operator need to know what they're doing to use such technology. • When one says that a racehorse has been "doped," it doesn't mean that they've been slowed down. It means that they've been given just enough of an immobilizing drug to speed them up and help up their chances of winning their race. It's illegal, and if done the wrong way, can kill the horse. stressin' me out, man.
Wednesday. 8.22.07 10:50 pm
All right. Well, my day started off pretty good. I woke up around two this afternoon, as is common in the summer for me. I had a breakfast of popcorn, which isn't great but it works, and then I started to work on my forensics stuff. My day was going pretty well. That is, until my mother comes home and hands me an evelope from our school. In my previous post, I told you my school never gets a schedule right, but I thought I already had mine fixed so therefore, the one I got in the mail should be fixed too, right? Wrong. The stupid thing. I have no first period first semester, and I have like four third periods. A normal schedule woudl have two, and mine was only supposed to have one because my third period class is a year round one. Not four. Just one. Is that too much to ask?

Now, we're going to have to get on the phone and try to fix it before next Tuesday when school starts. Either that, or I am going to head out to the school tomorrow with my friend and we're going to talk to one of our principals and get it fixed. Screw the guidance office. That's where you go and sit in that awful hall for hours and get yelled at. I hate the first few days of school simply because they are pure madness. No one knows where they are going because they can't get a freaking schedule!

School hasn't even started and it's already stressing me out...
