Maybe... Song... Cry... Starting Afresh...
Tuesday. 4.10.07 9:53 pm
maybe you are not satisfied at all about how things are going on in your life, maybe you feel this world is so messy and you long for something better, maybe you feel lonely and alone in the crowds, maybe you are numbing yourself with things to do and entertainment to fill the time so that you don't have to think about the lack of answers to your purpose in life, maybe you are filled with junks and your life seem to be in a mess and you have no strength to do anything about it, maybe you are tired and weary from running the rat race, maybe you are disillusioned with people and their hypocrisy and backstabbing, maybe you are drowning as you struggle to juggle with the demands of life, maybe you are crippled and struck down with an illness or disease, maybe you are hurt and your heart is bleeding profusely due to a relationship breakdown with someone whom you loved, maybe you are treated unfairly and with contempt and your diginity is gone, maybe you are feeling guilty about the past, maybe maybe maybe... whatever it is, you are not alone... and you are not without hope in this world

for there is a song that has started since the beginning, a song that many people have come to know over these thousands of years, a song that your heart is able to sing to, a song that echoes through, a song that will last for eternity... some says that there is no such song, others are so caught up with the technicality of the song that they missed the pure enjoyment of it... you see, the question is not about whether there is that song. the question is... are you in tune?

the book of Psalms in the Bible is a collection of 150 songs that gives us a clue of how we can tune in...

He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call. Psalm 147:9

Is anyone crying for help? God is listening, ready to rescue you. Psalm 34:17

For He will rescue the poor who cry out and the afflicted who have no helper. Psalm 72:12

O Lord, the God who saves me, day and night, I cry out before you. Psalm 88:1

Have you ever tried CRYing out to Him? Do you want to get in tune with Him and let His song reveberate in your heart? Do you want to experience the unspeakable joy and peace that this song can bring? The situation can remain but the heart is no longer the same as it draw strength and life from being in tune with the song.

Anything and everything can mess up your life but nothing can stop you from starting afresh... I started afresh this day by tuning in. have you?

The BET of life... The Pascal's Wager
Tuesday. 4.10.07 12:37 am
All men need the gods. Homer, 800 BC

A certain portion of mankind do not believe at all in the existence of the gods. Plato 400 BC

Later, when Blaise Pascal tried to get it all down on paper, he wrote in bursts, capturing flashes of what he thought he had seen in the vision - a vision that, by empirical standards, could only be called fantastical. There was no doubt in Pascal's mind, though, that it had happened, and happened in time and space, in a way his mathematically trained brain conceived of things as happening. Pascal remembered the exact time - between the hours of half past 10 and half past midnight on Monday, Nov. 23, 1654. Jesus appeared to him; God was real; the Christian story true: "Certainty, Certainty, heartfelt joy and peace. God of Jesus Christ. My God and your God." In a collection of writings found after his death, published as "Pensees", Pascal blended his two passions, mathematics and faith, to lay out what has come to be known as the Pascal's Wager.

It is rather simple: it is smarter to bet that God exists, and to believe in Him, because if it turns out that He is real, you win everything; if He is not real, you lose nothing. So why not take the leap of faith today?

my gift to my wife for her birthday...
Monday. 4.2.07 4:03 am
we are a couple who are not really particular about the need to be giving any presents to each other for our birthdays. For her birthday last year, she told me that she wants a total change in me by doing my part well as a husband and father. Thankfully to my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, there is a major turn in our marriage towards the end of last year when He opened my eyes to see my true condition and also granted me the strength to change for the better.

This year, for her birthday, which happens to fall on April's Fool Day, she asked of me to improve on my spoken english! :P She felt that I have been speaking too much Singlish (Singaporean's English which has a blend of malay, chinese, dialect and lah-s or hor-s or de-s at the end of our sentences) and the kids are beginning to speak like me! Therefore, by the grace of God, I shall now embark on a journey to recover proper sentence structure in my conversations. To my students whom I am teaching in school: if I speak in Singlish during lessons, please do not hesitate to remind me to speak properly!

JUSTICE, MERCY and GRACE defined...
Friday. 3.23.07 8:23 pm
In sharing with my student what JUSTICE, MERCY and GRACE actually mean:

He lost his tie and did not buy a new one before assembly day on thurs. In the name of JUSTICE, he deserves to caught and punished for his negligence. When he texted me on my mobile on wed night to ask if he can borrow my extra tie, I decided to lend it to him so that he will not be punished by the discipline master even though he did not even say please when he asked. This is what it means by MERCY: not receiving what you deserve (punishment meted out by JUSTICE). The next day, instead of scolding him, I decided to GIVE the tie to him as a gift (not because he deserves it but because God moved me to give). This is GRACE: receiving a GIFT that you do not deserve.

Why do I wanna share this? Cos' that's exactly what I experienced from God.

Looking at my own standard of living and righteousness, I have offended God and people many a times during my life on earth. I have been selfish many a times and I have sinned (miss the mark) and fall short of His glory (who is full of truth, love and justice) in many ways. In the name of JUSTICE, I deserve the consequences of all my actions and I deserve to be punished and banished to Hell (which God reserved for Satan and his demons initially). I am not condemning myself but honestly frank about how I look at myself in comparison to God¡¯s standard (His standard is really high e.g. A person is considered to have committed adultery simply when he lusts in his heart as he looks at a woman.)

However, God has shown me MERCY by deciding that I should not receive what I deserve. It's not because He simply decided NOT to take into account of my sins (He cannot be unJUST) but because He did something to pay the debts of my sins once and for all. He decided to give His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die as a sinless substitute for me. Remember Aslan the Lion from the Chronicles of Narnia? He died on behalf of Peter even though it was Peter who sinned. But because a sinless One died in the place of the sinful, the debts of the sinful is fully paid (just as the curse of the Table of Narnia is broken). I do not deserve that God should open a way for my sins to be paid but He decided to give it to me freely anyway. Now, this is GRACE, receiving what I do not deserve. For me, it is a humbling but yet wonderful experience to acknowledge that I must cease in all my effort to be decent enough to meet God's standard and simply to accept what He has accomplished on my behalf. Today, my heart is set free. I am totally at peace with God and myself. I am assured of a place with Him till eternity, not because of what I can do or deserve but because of His MERCY and GRACE.

I now live with only one desire: not to be an example of perfection (and become proud and self-righteous) but to be an example of growth (and remain humble to depend on Christ who now lives in me fully to do all things). That's what I call, happily ever after! :D

My take-away for the Day
Friday. 3.23.07 7:33 am
Thanks to Nick, I have amateurly mastered the back flip method of doing the high jump. No more sideward roll! :D yeah! learning never stops. I finally learn this technique at age 30 (although I should have learned it at 13)!

I am really very very satisfied with my life these days. Not simply because I am enjoying wonderful relationships with my wife, my kids, my colleagues and my students but much simply because of my wonderful relationship with God, my Father. As what the visa card advertisement says, this relationship is priceless. Everything grows pale in comparison to it and I don't want to exchange it for anything that the world can offer today!
