Moments of truth floating by
Flickering time looks at the immortal sea
Huge hope of trembling tranquility fails
All in matter of moments of joy.

Moments have stopped for a moment

Do you know that the celebrated writer of the book The Wealth of Nations proposed something in his book which may sound a bit amazing to all of his admirers? He made a suggestion that open debate of discussion be laid bare to the preachers of all faiths, creeds and denominations to administer an easy remedy to their religious fanaticism, mutual misunderstanding and false promises for the beyond world.

He also suggested that ‘the study of science and philosophy’ be made compulsory to these breed of people aspiring to be theist preacher or priest for gaining access to some kind of sanity and rationality and they should undertake a period of probation before they are finally confirmed in their service or profession. Is not it something interesting to recapitulate?

Frederick Engels commented in his illustarious book 'The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State' that "...the determinig factor in history is, in the last resort, the production and reproduction of immediate life. But this itself is of twofold character.

On the one hand, the production of the means of subsistence, of food, clothing and shelter and the tools of requsite therefore; on the other, the production of human beings themselves, the propagation of species." These are the two kinds of production are observed in the practical world for the sustainibility of all, one within the factory premise and the other family of flesh and blood. Out of families the constitution of society is founded and the outcome of the factory gives rise to a broad spectrum of economy. The third sector, that is, polity joins to form an embedded state.

According to F Engels, family, factory and polity form a constitute whole in the form of state. The relation between the three are divergent. Polity, that is, political organization is dynamic and volatile and is always changing and moving. But the mobility of economy is rather slow to move and the society is the slowest of all. It is generally sluggish as far as its mobility is concerned. Science and technology acts on the productivity as a result of which economy gets a boost to develop. Under the impact and influence of economy the society is continually transformed.

The impact of transformation of society acts on the economy and polity. This is the pattern of Western Europe. It is to be noted that in certain circumstances, the society and economy get seamlessly embedded in such a way that a situation arises when a low-level equilibrium trap costs the vitality of the society and the society becomes stagnant and stunted. This is usual course of history.

The devastation of our planet has happened at such a pace that we fail to keep pace with the changing way of the disaster. It has now reached a boiling point at which it threatens the future of humanity and its living conditions. The measure taken so far is more than adequate.

The economists proceed to fight shy of taking the ecological costs into account and the environmental problems rarely get the public hearing.This is just not beating about the bush. To maintain sustainable deveolopment, just not development for development's sake, we have got to undertake a thorough analysis and investigation into the global ecological crisis that lie in the inherently destructive nature of our world economy system. This points finger at the basic changes not marginal adjustments that are urgently needed.

The frightening reality of global ecological catastrophe and the ham-handed responses fron the respective government and world bodies has imposed on us this responsibility to be meted out on a war footing. There is a direct interconnection between the ecological vulnerability of the planet and a world economic system directed mainly towards the promotion of private profit.
