6th Dec

Two lucky dudes from 08S6A won a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Silicon Valley to meet with the various (PR) executives of Apple Inc, and so on. They were on SQ002 headed towards San Francisco transiting in Hong Kong.

One day before prom, we went to send these two off. Samuel was very happy to get William off his back for one month, but instantly missed his presence the next day as he had no one to make fun of.

And so we met up at Terminal 3 and went to 'send Sun Shuo off' - Judy.

Sending off

Departure
Awww how sad - He turned back past the gate and saw Samuel and Louis celebrating. How evil.. Haha.

Headed home to prepare for prom after a meal at Popeyes. They serve better chicken than KFC.. really. The 3 of us shared a meal, while Judy and Jontan went shopping and sY shared with Silu. We ate at the Kopitiam as the restaurant itself had no empty seats - and I don't think we're the first ones to do so.

And they serve fried seafood as well. Mmm.

Think they only have outlets at Terminal 1 and 3, as well as the Singapore Flyer amd a new one at Century Square - (ehh not bad leh near town (: )

Many things to update on, little time to do so.

28th Nov

Attended HCImpressione (its Impres-shion not Impression) and came away impressed with the Combined and College bands (:

Enjoyed Flight to the Future and Orient Express alot. They managed to pull off the gimmicks in Jap Graf XIV that our batch struggled with for Capriccio last year. The Saxa solo was good.. and Huiyao totally stole the thunder for the HS side. Wonder why HS manages to produce such skilled players year after year.

Took photos with Joy and Sharon. The whole audi and backstage was in utter chaos and we did not manage to find everyone to take a combined section photo.

Section (:
Wonder what the Pomelo symbolises. J2 guys favourite Hongguang got the other one. Hm..

30th Nov

A's ended finally and after 1 hour of debate/wrangling over the answers some of us went to Marina Square where WIlliam got owned =P in bowling.. Jontan won the right to be the King of Bowling though (:

Bowling
Up and down day at the lanes.

William went prom shopping with me when I promised him to proceed to Macs for Shaker fries. Walked about G2000 and Armani at ION.

1st Dec

The juniors invited us to Sentosa for their band outing, and some of us guys (Liangsai, Luther, XJ, William) tagged along as well to partake in 'air soccer' and football on a downward sloping part of the beach. Ended up totally wet after being involved in a tussle for the ball with XJ - in the sea.

Dinner was at Vivo's Kopitiam, and couldn't find a chilled Breezer which I had promised Edwin =/ Jason came from his law attachment, and after stoning for awhile we left for home - and I managed to catch 30 mins of 2x (:

HcBand 09/10 at Sentosa
HcBand at Sentosa. (: The lifeguard was sleeping before we got him to take the photo.

2nd Dec

Alumni Band Prac at NH. The tenors did not like me and in the end I struggled to produce any sound at all. Would have died if the conductor was Leng.

Brought my prom stuff at ION. Only bought it as there was a discount of 50%.

3rd Dec

End of the A's for those taking Bio. The band guys chose the wrong day to play soccer in school. The main court was crowded and we had to relocate to the new one set up outside the EP^3 shed.

Finally kicked a ball in a court proper after a year or so. Felt rather rusty and useless though =/

Cabbed down to NH after loaning someone's tenor. =P
And it worked wonders. Practiced Les Miserables and Foxfire. As usual the Alumni finally gathered to play one day before the actual performance and sight-read the two pieces. (Maybe not for all, as some of us had played the latter before in 2005).

Christofle came back, and it was the first time since Sec 1 I played tenor with him. Had fun ribbing each other about the accidentals.

Bella Notte III
I love the concert title.. =P

4th Dec

The Computing people finally finished their A's, and we organised a picnic at Sentosa (where else..) to celebrate this momentous occasion with them. Turned out clouds were gathering overhead and most of us were late.

We still made it to Sentosa though and set up our mat in a pavillion at Siloso (It was Palawan the other day) and waited for Judy, sY and Silu. And William just had to start on the food first =P There were beehoon, luncheon meat, tuna, bread, cupcakes, ham and salad placed out in front of us - oh, and a 500ml Tiger too. Wonder who bought that.

Frisbee was next and we were sabo-ing William as 'monkey'. Left for NH soon after before witnessing both WIlliam (why is it always him) and sY get dunked. Whoo. Did not see Louis arrive too =/ And also failed to meet up with Waimin for the last time in a few months as she had to wait for a parcel at home.

Picnic
sY and Silu enjoying themselves (:

Took 97 from Vivo and made good time as the driver was running late and decided not to accept any more passengers in a race to Jurong East. Arrived in time for final Alumni Prac in the Hall, where we also had to sight-read Broadway (I got lost while playing this piece later in the evening and had to ask the Sec 1 where we were - tsk, ehh 'to you' - don't laugh..)

The movement to and from stage was completed 1 hour before the actual performance. Oh, and the actual performance did not start until 7.35pm (instead of 7pm) as the hall was largely empty. Partially it was the rain but one could not fail to notice how in-house our concert was. The audience largely comprised of parents, teachers, alumni and a few VS guys.

The main band did well (the oboe was great(: It has been quite awhile since we had such a good oboeist). Saxas had a nice rounded sound too. The only flaw came at every part with running notes for 'Twin Oaks'. Was quite obvious how unprepared the band was in tackling them.

No idea how the Alumni sounded - I know I played a wrong note for 1 count at a pause note (before changing to the right one - Eb) and choked at Broadway. Christofle took the Alto for Broadway and promptly executed the solo brilliantly with only a few minutes of practice and consultation with Mr Tan. My sight-reading is still rather suspect after 6 years. Haha.

The turnout was quite respectable after all. Only a few rows empty here and there. Hopefully next year would be better. After all, we did not suffer the one-concert curse that seems to like the HS alot.

Felix
I wonder whose tenor that is.. (: And Felix's using my old Bari. Thankfully he's better at it than I was.

Saxas!\
Saxas - and no I don't like that pink hairclip..

Great Bukit Timah Flood
Sunday. 11.22.09 10:43 pm
Ok, I know I'm very late with this since it happened on Thursday.

If you haven't seen the video already (It seems to be all over Facebook), then you can view it here.

I have no idea why there would be people who are free enough to come school when they have no paper to take in the afternoon and end up getting stranded on an overhead bridge. Anw its a good video. Couldn't see the carnage first-hand (unlike some people who live in condos along the road) since we were all in the hall situated on a hill to take our Physics P3, or was it P2. Probably Paper 2.

For Econs the day before, the gods deemed that the essay paper was not entertaining enough and decided to rain thunder and water all over the hall to accompany us. So there we were writing like some mad hags trying to squeeze as much info as we can in the short time frame and getting distracted by the thunder. Ok, it was cool seeing everyone jump at the sound of thunder but that is something I would rather not experience during a major exam.

So imagine what we were thinking about the paper when people started arriving drenched, in PE attire, in NJ uniforms and MOE granted permission for us to start late.

You should see the Hitler parody about him, the self-proclaimed Fuhrer of NJ, not being able to take his paper in his school because of the flood. It should be on Facebook already. It was liked by many people, so it should show up in your Home pages if you're from HC/have connections to HC people.

Lastly, these were on SMB (Yeah, I just checked after 4 days.. Lol.) instructing us what to do in case the waters tempted fate and flooded again when it was supposed to be a once-in-50-years event.

Interesting stories..

Received this in yesterday's daily email. Found it pretty interesting so I'm posting this here to share with whoever visits (:

DOES HOMEWORK HELP OR HINDER?

A couple in Canada have won the right for their children not to do any.

NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS SKINNY FEELS

That's what Kate Moss is reported to have said. Irresponsible, or just how a lot of women feel?

Ehhh skinny not good ok (: Go eat more.. Haha.

#econsgg on Twitter
Wednesday. 11.18.09 11:16 pm
I noticed that I had finally crossed the 100-tweet mark on Twitter. Yay.

Twitter1
Sample ramblings on my page.

Quite interesting to note the backlash against the Econs paper on Facebook and Twitter. And you can also see where the inspiration for my title came from.

It has not been a walk in the park for A's. It makes the whole O's feel like an afternoon in a theme park. So much more depends on this one certificate. A poor showing would mean a waste of 2 years, or even 6, and get the unfortunate person stuck in limbo - unable to get a good job while not meeting the criteria for university admission. He/she will then have to choose between 3 years in Poly or to retake the A's. Either way, the opportunity costs are immense.

Hence it is imperative that we end the campaign well. University admission will likely be a given in the future. My mum loves to quip that ten years on, you need a degree to be considered for the job of a cleaner or road sweeper.

A risky round of Russian roulette indeed.

Local celebrity Chew Chor Meng's testimony (Chinese)
Tuesday. 11.17.09 11:29 am
I'm sure many of us would have been aware of local artiste Chew Chor Meng and his diagnosis and subsequent fight against Kennedy's disease that was widely publicised in the local media. This affliction has left him struggling to walk and brought upon him too cardiac problems and diabetes.

I was on my way home from the 7-eleven downstairs and had my attention affixed immediately on the reports (it made the headlines of the Chinese papers) the very next day after he spoke about his ailment at a church meeting. When I was young, I was a huge fan of the 'Don't Worry Be Happy' series which aired on Saturdays at 9.30pm. I barely started primary school then. The sitcom was a huge hit and made him into one of the most well-loved and respected local celebrities for the last decade or so. (Back then Channel 8 dramas and sitcoms were much much nicer)

The following is a testimonial recorded in a subsequent church event. I think I know which one it was. The train heading north was unusually crowded after the Little India and Farrer Park stations on a Saturday evening and I happened to catch a glimpse of a flyer an auntie was grasping about a 'special speaker' and a 'testimony'.

Got this on Mr Chow (Papaphysix's) Tumblr, and I'm sure you'll be greatly impacted by it. Wanted to post this on the CG blog as well but I realised I did not have access to it. Haha. Strengthens our faith (:

Alternatively, in today's mail there were links to Friday's session on World News (can't catch that here in SG - no cable provider carries it), hence here's Youtube to the rescue.

Part 1 of 3

Hm.. after I saw what everyone had to say about the Church and its flaws, I really hope that CHC and other pentecostal churches will not emulate the flaws that the Catholic Church has exhibited in the past that had directly/indirectly resulted from its rigidity and concentration of power. This is not to say that the Catholic Church had not been a force for good - It has, especially in many parts of the developing world. I believe that there are indeed sincere bishops and priests, alas, in such a global organisation it is impossible not to have a bad sheep or two in the flock.

I could say for certainty that the Catholic Church in Singapore is respected in the community and by other churches. It has not been beset by the child sex scandals or any other controversies that has engulfed the rest of the world in recent years and has served the community well for many years.

I do have quite a few Catholic friends and it struck me many times that they are very disciplined in any given task, be it fasting (or abstinence), prayer and supplication (I presume). Given that the Church is rather hierarchical and traditional, this should not come as a surprise. Hence personally I feel that we non-Catholics can strive to be as diligent and dedicated as them with regards to spiritual things. (Note to self - Need to read, pray more! Must not let the stress of exams disrupt my routine, or a lack of.)

I believe we have a conscience though. As long as we stay true to ourselves and to God, live by the Word, and connect with society by using our gifts - we'll lead a good life. Not a guaranteed formula to success but it will definitely not lead you to ruin at the end of the day.

Back to work. I need to memorise formulas of a different kind. After GP, nothing is impossible as absolutely nothing else can beat that performance. Yay

FFXIII, GP, Start of 2nd Wk.
Sunday. 11.15.09 11:55 pm
This announcement was made on the 13th Nov. And and.. the release date is coming soon!

Indeed.. Best way to release the ending date.. Ever. Haha.

Leona Lewis' My Hands. Sounds good I guess. (: Wonder who're the big LL fans in class? Haha.

Will be in slogging camp though. Maybe they'll bundle it with a FFXIII-themed PS3 that has playback capability for NTSC/UC. (Quite probable.. since its the US Version!) Dream come true man.

Still want all International versions to be released for North America though. FFX Int'l was for Europe and Japan, and FFXII IZJS was for Japan only =/

Oh.. Need to prepare GP for next year if I get a B or C. Started by subscribing to BBC's World Have Your Say daily email. Good material to work out responses to current issues and debates. Need a lot of determination to do well though. Bet my weekends will be filled with stuff in the coming year.

And there's SAT too. Oh, hopefully the Unis will accept two separate A level certs. Hm.. Is A* possible next year? Maybe. We'll see.

Need to study econs =/ Nothing's getting in. And Physics too! Not been productive this weekend. Bio ppl have it all good this week then, instead of slogging through GP followed by Bio as they will enjoy the luxury of having 3 papers only. Now don't get me started on the Arts people, who end about 10 days earlier than us.

All the best everyone! And to someone.. Jiayou k? Believe you can do the impossible for Econs (: You have the power of Triquetra lehh sure own one la.

Don't be like this (me after GP) -> xD
