Band Reunion '10
Sunday. 2.21.10 6:05 pm
I realised I have 5 Nutang invites now.. Haha. So if someone/anyone I know wants to start a blog/webpage here do let me know (:

And I give up playing Bejewelled on Facebook. Haha. Can't seem to chain a high score together nowadays.

Hm.. the day before we had a Band Reunion Dinner with the current J2s at some steamboat place at Novena Ville. Normally I would shun such dining outlets - indeed, as always in a steamboat restaurant it is the company that matters much more than the food (which gets pretty inedible towards the end as a result of all sort of not-so-fresh and weird food being dumped into the pot.)

Of course as usual most of the people were late.. And Rec Liuzhen just had to come in his Smart No.4 as a result of C coy deciding to eat up their weekend.

Sorry that a lot of talk at my table was dominated by army stuff. Oops =/ That's what 10 weeks of army do to you.. Like what Mark mentioned.. what else can we talk about. Lol.

HcBand Reunion
See you guys on 5th March. Will go back for Prac (?) if results are good. =P

Anyway my next weekend's sort of burnt. Can't wait for end of field camp. Once 5th March passes it's time to train for IPPT and SOC since all the high-key events are already over. I'm hopeful I can pass the last IPPT on 18th March/ or the retest on 26th. If not, say bye to command school and hello to some cuiii admin job (wishful.. since I abit PES A), Guards (-.-), some lowly man job blah blah. At least must get into SISPEC lahh.

"...if you are ever going to have other people trust you, you must feel that you can trust them, too--even when you're in the dark."
- Morrie Schwartz, from Mitch Albom's Tuesdays with Morrie

Something that I need to work on. To be less assumptive, to believe others for what they say. That the beacon of light at the end of the tunnel is yours, and not others.. And to have the confidence to say at the end, regardless of outcome, that I'd made my choice - and I have no regrets at all..

And so adieus until Saturday. Hope there'll be time to squeeze in a post then..

2 weeks.. Must endure. Then long weekend.. A bittersweet one? =/

Now I'm blogging on weekdays too..
Sunday. 2.21.10 11:11 am
but not on Nutang =/

Its some initiative by our OC to encourage us to share our NSF experiences and musings. Since we all have a UMPC which is heavily underultilised by our company so far - he thought 'why not let them use it every night to BLOG?' And hence we have to log on every weekday night into the secure network to blog..

However we still cannot use the UMPC to surf other sites. Thus we're stuck with just the system and HeuCampus, some sort of MSN which is the source of our fun online - massively retarded and irritating mass convos, sometimes with sergeants looking on silently (since we added them in) - bet they are laughing themselves silly behind the screen too.

Anyway, during one such convo on Thursday (with 3SG Zhuoyi back from 15 days leave to China), the sgt 'wtf'ed when Yiren mentioned he could access the portal from his UMPC.. in the toilet. He then 'lol'ed after he encouraged us to put OK for the weekly cookhouse survey so as to 'give them motivation to improve further'.

This week of 2.5 working days was pretty slack, considering that we did not get RT-ed (almost did, but in the end only plt 1 failures got it). Spent the whole of Thursday at IMT (Individual Marksmanship Trainer) where I got 30/32 for the test (argh missed two easy ones.. once at daytime foxhole position and the next while squatting). Hopefully these results will transpire for the actual thing which will be on next Thursday. Had stand-by universe on Friday and we got marked for 32 mistakes all over the level, resulting in our only hardcore PT session of the week.

Had a few mahjong sessions over the CNY period. On Monday we went to Louis' place instead of Sherwyn's as the latter fell ill =/ For dinner, Cyn, LZ, Shimin, Liangsai, Yiyi, Sab, Irene and I went to Chai's place for a very very sumptuous steamboat/grill dinner (: Honestly speaking it's one of, if not - the best dinners I've ever had. So much so that my mum want to buy a similar device next time she goes shopping. And there was Guitar Hero as well.. along with Shimin's jelly and Sab's bak kua. Hence that night was a very good good night indeed (:

Aaron invited us to his place on Tuesday as well for a buffet. Turned out to be another mahjong session in the end with me, Silu, Samuel and William. sY and William brought their barang-barang and changed there while hy.. wore his Smart No.4 there with field pack all ready to book in.. Lol.

Rushed back to reality at Pasir Ris that night and stuck around in camp until Friday, when we booked out on the 1800 fast craft. And Cougar only booked out the next day at 1845 hrs =/

Photos..

Reunion Dinner ones can be found on http://alvinology.wordpress.com Lazy to repost here lah

A few quizzes and stuff like that
Sunday. 2.21.10 6:38 am
SUNDAY ALREADY -.-

Anyway I noticed this virus of a personality quiz making waves all over Facebook just now. Intrigued, I jumped on the bandwagon as well and showed off my results to Jos on MSN, who was visibly.. rather not impressed. =P

Get to know yourself better

Msn convo - Jos

Besides I did the same quiz before 2 years back.. Its in the March 20 post of that year. Got back somewhat the same results with a few exceptions.
_____________________________________________

On 240708 Sarah sent me this viral email. I chanced upon it as I was searching for my previous results to the above-mentioned quiz.

Once upon a time there was this girl who had four boyfriends.

She loved the 4th boyfriend the most and adorned him with rich robes and
treated him to the finest delicacies. She gave him nothing but the
best.

She also loved the 3rd boyfriend very much and was always showing him off
to neighboring kingdoms. However, she feared that one day he would leave
her for another.

She also loved her 2nd boyfriend. He was her confidante and was always
kind, considerate and patient towards her. Whenever this girl faced a problem,
she could confide in him, and he would help her get through the difficult
times.

The girls 1st boyfriend was a very loyal partner and had made great
contributions in maintaining her wealth and kingdom. However, she did not
love the first boyfriend. Although he loved her deeply, she hardly took
notice of him!

One day, the girl fell ill and she knew her time was short. She thought of
her luxurious life and wondered, I now have four boyfriends with me, but
when I die, I'll be all alone.'

Thus, she asked the 4th boyfriend, 'I loved you the most, endowed you with
the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I'm dying,
will you follow me and keep me company?'

'No way!', replied the 4th boyfriend, and he walked away without
another word..

His answer cut like a sharp knife right into her heart.

The sad girl then asked the 3rd boyfriend, 'I loved you all my life. Now
that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?'

'No!', replied the 3rd boyfriend. 'Life is too good! When you die,
I'm going to marry someone else!'

Her heart sank and turned cold.

She then asked the 2nd boyfriend, 'I have always turned to you for help and
you've always been there for me.

When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?'

'I'm sorry, I can't help you out this time!', replied the 2nd
boyfriend.
'At the very most, I can only walk with you to your grave.'

His answer struck her like a bolt of lightning, and the girl was
devastated.

Then a voice called out: 'I'll go with you. I'll follow you no
matter where you go..'

The girl looked up, and there was her first boyfriend. He was very skinny
as he suffered from malnutrition and neglect.

Greatly grieved, the girl said, 'I should have taken much better care of
you when I had the chance!'

In truth, you have 4 boyfriends in your lives:

Your 4th boyfriend is your body. No matter how much time and effort you
lavish in making it look good, it will leave you when you die.

Your 3rd boyfriend is your possessions, status and wealth. When you die, it
will all go to others.

Your 2nd boyfriend is your family and friends. No matter how much they have
been there for you, the furthest they can stay by you is up to the grave.

And your 1st boyfriend is your Soul. Often neglected in pursuit of wealth,
power and pleasures of the world.

However, your Soul is the only thing that will follow you where ever you
go. Cultivate, strengthen and cherish it now, for it is the only part of you
that will follow you and continue with you throughout Eternity.

Pass this on to someone you care about - I just did.

Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect. It means you've
decided to see beyond the imperfections.

Lastly.. I redid the MBTI test thing. I'm now an ESFJ..

Had a good long convo with Josie about personality types..
And we kind of agreed on a few things about me that fits the profile of an ESFJ

"ESFJs are people persons - they love people. They are warmly interested in others. They use their Sensing and Judging characteristics to gather specific, detailed information about others, and turn this information into supportive judgments." (basically means I'm very kaypoh and irritating)

"ESFJs are such caring individuals, that they sometimes have a hard time seeing or accepting a difficult truth about someone they care about. " (ouch, true..)

"They have a strong need to be liked, and to be in control. They are extremely good at reading others, and often change their own manner to be more pleasing to whoever they're with at the moment." (Hm..)

" They need approval from others to feel good about themselves. They are hurt by indifference and don't understand unkindness." (Translated - I'll be damn sad if people dao me..)

"They're usually quite popular and good with people, and good at manipulating them. Unlike their ENFJ cousin, they don't have Intuition to help them understand the real consequences of their actions" (Oops.. =/)

Ok, for the positive points.. it says we can be..
"warm, sympathetic, helpful, cooperative, tactful, down-to-earth, practical, thorough, consistent, organized, enthusiastic, and energetic... and will seek stable lives that are rich in contact with friends and family"

Info above gleaned from http://www.personalitypage.com/ESFJ.html

Monday. 2.15.10 8:15 am
Woah.. its Monday already, the second day of CNY. And its back to camp tomorrow for a relatively short week, if there's no RT that is.

Did not eat any CNY goodies while visiting relatives yesterday as I developed a fever in the morning. Kept on drinking water to regulate my body temperature. Must be due to a combination of factors, such as not sleeping the night before (not used to being nocturnal anymore..) and also the rather heaty reunion dinner (which was superb though..)

Anw had a super early rest last night and am good to go this morning (:
To think that I'm relegated to consuming plain porridge on the first day of CNY. =/

Will be leaving for Sherwyn's in less than an hour's time. Following that will be a trip to Chai's place for a steamboat dinner (: Can't wait! Haha. Don't think I'll ever want today to end..

There was a time, not too long ago..
Sundayy. 2.14.10 4:54 am
.. when we had our Orientation, and got wet, sticky and all taking part in all the games with or OGs..

Slippery Slope, O1 2008
I still remember we played slapjack at her (Eileen's) place last time..

and bonded over pizza, chips and all sorts of (unhealthy) food with two of my future classmates.. and two bandmates (guess who). (:

OG26, Eileen's place
Yes, I look like a kuku last time.. Wait til you see the older pictures

Then we got sorted into our classes, and practiced our ATHENA faculty dance for the first-ever Post Orientation Party. And it has some of the nicest people whom I'd ever met (:

S6A Aug Bday Celeb
No more hair already guys.. (except Mr Pang)

Then 2009 rolled around and we became seniors! No longer juniors, though we kept our side of the class bench still. When some of us became frustrated at a certain fanchoy, who's actually quite a nice person, albeit serious most of the time. We did not really interact much with the juniors, probably only with Justin and Yuanxi, the latter who always joined us on lunch on a certain day of the week (can't remember when).

Rev-It-Up, Combined shot
We and them, on their campfire night. Old liao loh

And then blah blah blah. The A's came and went, and I screwed GP. So that's that.

Now, its February once more.. and its a weekend. (:
The new batch of J1s just had their orientation, and their own POP.

I just tried dancing OUR fac dance, but it was just impossible besides the opening few moves. Two years. Our time there is over, although SMB still spams us with message after message about attire, late-coming, blocks and so on.

So the point of this post?

Its just to show off some photos which I'd never posted before, as well as to wax nostalgia about JUMPSTART!. =/

As Guojie's trademark line went, "once upon a time, the sky was blue, the birds were chirping, the children were singing."

Hah, I used to dread waking up at 5-plus in the morning to get ready for school. Now I miss it, even though I STILL wake up at 5 in the morning nowadays for an altogether different reason. =/

Just hope that all the juniors (especially those from 10S6A) enjoy and cherish their time in HC. For they are lucky to be in such an environment, and they have earned their way in. There are always oldies like us who long to be in your shoes once again, so live life to the max.(:

Anyways, since its Feb 14 today..
At 0720 hours, I wish all readers and friends..
新年快乐!!
May everyone have a happy and prosperous year ahead!(:

and
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
Which is supposed to be everyday, not just Feb 14 alone, if you really love/care for that special someone (:

CNY Eve..
Saturday. 2.13.10 5:14 pm
Happy Chinese New Year Eve!

This year's celebration was much different from previous years..

CNY'08 HC
BMTC Sch 1's celebration can never be compared to this..

The soon-to-POC G coy organised this year's celebration, which featured fellow PES C Singapore Idol winner (Rec) Sezairi doing an acoustic cover of The Beatles' Come Together. Everyone was like Recruit lehh. Then again that was the highlight of the whole morning.

There were also games that representatives from the various companies took part in (which were rather uneventful), calligraphy writing, la mian demonstration by a chef from NTUC Foodfare.. (lol) and a lion dance performance which was.. rather.. hm.. draggy.

We reserved the loudest cheer for our ex-OC (now back to being OC Bronco) as we out-cheered Cougar as the sirs made their entrance (: Easily the most enthusiastic coy around.. lol.

All these while there were recruits from other schools running the coastal route for 2.4km run around the exterior of the parade square. =/ And furthermore all Sch 1 personnel got to book out by 1330 hrs, compared to others. Oh, we got to wear CV the whole time - it was so lepak that even 5BX in the morning got cancelled. Cougar got to book out first. No prizes for guessing why.. Haha.

Anyway, off for my reunion dinner at the same old place again (:
Whee, finally its CNY, and yet another long weekend after so so so so long.

Farewell to a (NH) Legend
Friday. 2.12.10 9:38 pm
nhsaxas with Mr Tan

Six years, and moving on.

Perhaps the time has come to seek after new thrills and experiences. Or else maybe the school, thirsting anxiously for the elusive gold, initiated the move.

It was never for the money, for the sum the school paid him pales in comparison to what others were prepared to offer.

Yet he stayed six years - experienced crisis and bittersweet success one after another. And I'm honoured to have the chance to be under his baton for the first four years, to have the foundation of musicianship laid into me. Exalted by his faith in me as the very first SC. Humbled by his passion and love for the band - the band which no one else wanted to take. Touched by his word of congratulations at The Republic Cultural Center's foyer nine months back.

Being part of the first batch he took personally from Sec 1, unsurprising there's a firm bond between us. A guiding hand in and out of the band room to some, a paragon of dedication to others.

There's a reason why my batch was fiercely passionate about this band - it is because we witnessed incidents which threatened the very existence of this organisation, and that the 06/07 batch of leaders were tasked with foundation-building, to start all over again - his way.

Having attained his goal, maybe he felt it was time to let the band run on its own. The current batches are already too young to ever know such a roller coaster ride existed. The pains we all went through. Yet there were fruits as well, during SYF, starting band camps, concert (approved finally..), annual BBQs, blogs, proper ceremonial handovers. And our juniors have done well to promote the band in school, restarting the tradition of drills that was abandoned by '05, increasing awareness of what we do.

Most importantly, looking back, we have really come a long way indeed. Even though NHband as I knew it is long gone (and the last batch to have ever seen me as a student will be leaving this year). After that I will really be a full-fledged alumni. Woah. The journeys we undertook, the successes will thereafter be etched only in our hearts and the history books. He took over a band disunited, which then disintegrated into near chaos and civil war before we and the batches following us rebuilt it.

Our batch had strong leaders which under his guidance pull all of us through. Kudos indeed to them.

Anyways, NHSB will be embarking on a new phase in its ever-changing history. Take care Mr Tan - we will miss you.. especially when Belle Notte rolls about in about 9 months time..

Farewell indeed.. to a legend, a fighter and mentor.

One last thing..
!
