Where to go now?
Saturday. 3.13.10 11:50 am
What to choose from?
I'm curious.. and confused.. about what to choose now..

Friday 5 March, 2010

When I got hold of my results slip I did not know whether to laugh or cry..
I had performed surprisingly alright for language, yet stumbled when it came to my 'favourite' subject..

After the dust had settled, the remaining few of us (Judy, Jontan, KH, Woon, Louis, Aaron, Tiantian) decided to go chilling in town.. First at Carl's Jr, then at Manhattan Fish Market for dinner.

Of course if you remembered I had to cut short on the reveling to rush home in preparation for my weekend guard duty -.-

In the past week I had been discussing possible U choices with my parents, bunkmates, Jos and hm.. who else.. I came up with quite a few possibilities, yet due to my favourite subject I could not be assured of a place in any of my desired courses..

So now I'm still staring at the prospectus and deciding on my three choices. I had effectively shut the door on overseas studies after Friday - that can come some other time, possibly exchanges as an undergraduate or further studies after commencement.

The time period for application's pretty tight (1st April? Just 2.5 weeks away..) and I've yet to start on the 400-600 word essay required for USP..

So in the aftermath.. where do I stand? So so many people got full 4 H2 Distinctions, for example. And as such.. given the limited places available.. I'm already handicapped trying to apply for Law, much less pursue a concurrent/double degree. Ahh, maybe I should just stick to FASSEcons/Political Science/Whatever. =/

Need more help on this.. Barriers of entry abit not high right now..
Hope those going for NUS Open House this weekend will get a fresher perspective on what to enroll in and identify the course that fits them to a T.

A new entry just to let someone see..
Friday. 3.12.10 11:22 pm
..what being an ESFJ entails, and how I interpreted it =P

From the 210210 post entitled 'A few quizzes and stuff like that'
_______________________________________________________

Lastly.. I redid the MBTI test thing. I'm now an ESFJ..

Had a good long convo with Josie about personality types..
And we kind of agreed on a few things about me that fits the profile of an ESFJ

"ESFJs are people persons - they love people. They are warmly interested in others. They use their Sensing and Judging characteristics to gather specific, detailed information about others, and turn this information into supportive judgments." (basically means I'm very kaypoh and irritating)

"ESFJs are such caring individuals, that they sometimes have a hard time seeing or accepting a difficult truth about someone they care about. " (ouch, true..)

"They have a strong need to be liked, and to be in control. They are extremely good at reading others, and often change their own manner to be more pleasing to whoever they're with at the moment." (Hm..)

" They need approval from others to feel good about themselves. They are hurt by indifference and don't understand unkindness." (Translated - I'll be damn sad if people dao me..)

"They're usually quite popular and good with people, and good at manipulating them. Unlike their ENFJ cousin, they don't have Intuition to help them understand the real consequences of their actions" (Oops.. =/)

Ok, for the positive points.. it says I can be..
"warm, sympathetic, helpful, cooperative, tactful, down-to-earth, practical, thorough, consistent, organized, enthusiastic, and energetic... and will seek stable lives that are rich in contact with friends and family"

Info above gleaned from Portrait of an ESFJ
You can take a more complete version of the test (than the one on Facebook) on Humanmetrics

Scars that never heal..
Friday. 3.12.10 10:23 pm

The path is on this grass patch.. Not visible here from this angle >.<

I had missed my usual Circle Line exit while leaving the MRT station and instead went out by the old one which was on top of this hill.

In the past before the Circle Line was completed, residents from my side of town will just trudge up the hill to the entrance. Over time, these footsteps left their mark - the ground that had been stepped on countless times had become dry and barren, and thus, a dirt path formed.

Now that there's an exit at the base of the hill, the old dirt path has been left on its own, a silent reminder to the 'glory days' it once enjoyed.

Today I descended the hill following what was left of the path. Although with time wild grasses and shrubs had started to grow out of the dirt once more, the outline of the path was pretty much visible even under the pale moonlight.

That left me thinking quite a bit.

Scars are just like dirt paths in a grass patch.. No matter how much the surrounding vegetation tries to cover it with the passage of time the outline will always be visible. Just like on Tekong during outfield it's not difficult when in the undergrowth to find abandoned paths going up this knoll of across this field.

They are permanent.. and can never be erased no matter what happens..
Forgiven, but never forgotten

I carry a lot of self-inflicted ones.. The best I can do now is to learn from it, and never commit the same mistakes ever again..

Just food for thought I guess before someone ( ------> ) goes to sleep.. =P

Make-A-Snowflake!
Friday. 3.12.10 12:03 pm
Hey guys check out this cool application that I stumbled on via Alvinology while I was searching for good fantastic makan places around town.. Why am I looking for restaurants? Shhh. Secret (:

Visit this website to make your own customised snowflake in under a minute!

This is the one that I made. Yes, made up of random cuts that look alright in the final product. =/ Still, it looks presentable! (:

flake.php

Quote Alvin - "Upon completion of your design, you can even save the file in EPS format in its vector form how cool is that? This means it can be recycled and used in your other design works in hi-resolution!"

Don't know what that means but I guess tech-crazy people like Aaron and all will get what the above is all about.

Good distraction from boring old work eh

Booking in once more
Sunday. 3.7.10 4:18 am
Guard duty was a waste of my time.. The only positives that came out of it was that it allowed me time to read through NUS' prospectus for 2010-11, chat with Ah Book from Plt 3, and explode the whole of Ladang Camp. (Finally knew where all the companies are..)

Anyway there were a few companies of fresh PTP enlistees who enlisted on Saturday into V, U and W coys if I'm not wrong. Was surprised to see that Raven and Mohawk booked in on Friday night and Dragon on Sat.

Back to guard duty.. It was the first time we did with rifles and.. boy was it troublesome getting all the paperwork completed. Being at the mercy of the bochup Warrent Officer who took his own bloody sweet time and caused us to miss the 0845 ferry out of Tekong makes it even worse.

Thus.. no social life this weekend. =/ Maybe next Thursday can book out early if PC decides to be nice and not confine us. He had been an ultimate jerk on the last two days of Field Camp to us. Well, our PS arh.. He'd kind of given up on us and we can't be bothered to give a damn about him. No respect for him whatsoever. He totally destroyed it long ago.

Anyway A Level results are out.. Did not get straight.. that's all I would say =/ All because of my favourite subject yet again? When 80% can get A I just have to be the unlucky minority. This kind of sucks. Can't pinpoint where I got it all wrong either. Ahh.. Twice in two major exams this subject has screwed my results slip. Would I have done better if I had gone for Bio? I would never know..

Shocked by my GP though. I was all prepared to retake it this year lol...

Life is complicated.. and unpredictable
Congratulations to all those with so many distinctions.. Like 8?
And those with 7.. (A lot lehhhhh)
Oh, and also those with straight A's...... :D

My clean slip...

And I owe someone a treat no? Haha. Why so many people owing each other treats nowadays? :P

The moment of truth approaches
Friday. 3.5.10 3:31 am
Don't you want to go sleeeeeep? >.<
Feels great finally talking on the phone once again (near 1am again.. oops) after 5 days of hell.. Though I sense someone isn't exactly as overjoyed and relaxed as I am.. Maybe like --> all the way lol!

In less than twelve hours.. Our hard work and perseverance for the past two years will finally bear fruit.

I'm sure all of us will do, at least, reasonably well..
So don't worry so much.. (:

We all know that the stakes are high
This piece of paper, though rather insignificant when used alone, will actually be the key to the next phase of education.
That is, the A's are only just a stepping block to greater things.
Yet, have faith in yourself that everything will be alright.

There's no turning back now isn't it?

Damn guard duty on Sat means I have to book in tonight. Zzz.
Post frequency decreasing by much then..
Everyone seems to be conspiring against me wanting to chip away at my free time.
Nvm.. Just have to suck thumb I guess.
At least for duty we have plenty of time to catch up on sleep and reading uninterrupted (since we're on the bloody island while everyone else' on the other side). Maybe it's a blessing in disguise? Can use phones at will. (: As well as to recharge for hand grenade, re-shellscrape, SOC, sit test and IPPT.

Range and IFC, Back home (finally)!
Saturday. 2.27.10 2:03 pm
Thinking about a lot of things recently, yet couldn't find the means to pen them down properly..

Its now like 1430 hrs - more than halfway through the time allocated to me on the mainland this weekend. Considering I only booked out at 0730 this morning, its no surprise that yes, I'm booking in yet again this evening at a very early time of 1850 hrs. And that'll be it for my civilian weekend.
__________________________________________

On Sunday night we were all demoralized on our way back to camp.
Up and down this avenue
SIX more days and we'll be through~

Its a freaking SIX days ahead. Have not had such a long working week since.. confinement weeks in December.

Monday was the only day in the week with PT. Managed to complete the bloody swing trainer after dabbing sand on my palms (helps a lot with the grip.. haha). Dumbbell and medicine ball training (in Long No. 4) in the afternoon after some army recruitment talk encouraging us to sign on.

The next two days was IFC (Individual Field Craft) days where we went outfield (which was actually behind our company line in the forest..) to learn and try out movement and tactical drills, cover and concealment. Got commended by PC for my camouflage and hiding ability.. Maybe its cos some people say I stalk others too much? Hm. Yup that kind of made my day. Haha. Camo cream is a chore to remove; and the rifle became green due to camo on my hands..

Second day wasn't exactly smooth-sailing as the Commanding of School 1 stormed our bunks and was pissed at the mess inside. So he screwed the CSM, PC first. The buck passed from there to the PS, the other sergeants and finally to us and we got tekan-ed straight in outfield. From that day onA LOT of standby area and beds were in order. He commented that the new recruits were much better than us, although that is rather debatable since D coy had company standby area that exact morning - so the things were bound to be clean. Then again the bottom line is that we have to maintain standby condition AT ALL TIMES. So no complaining there.. That night our Admin time vanished as we did area cleaning and standby before lightsoff.

Woke up at 0445 on Thursday for live firing (both day and night). PC indented aircon buses to take us to the 100m range, and also a ninja van (a minimart - guess why its called as such.. Haha) Had to reshoot both in the day and the night.. Lol. So I'm one of the few who fired the most rounds in total.. Hopefully I'll just scrape a Marksman. For my first night round, it was quite funny to hear coy 2IC ridiculing and complaining that the other chambers kept delaying and changing weapons because of one IA (a situation requiring Immediate Action as the weapon did not fire when it is cocked with rounds). And then when it was my turn I IA-ed twice for the 4 50m shoots - hence a reshoot was in order.. Suay la.. That rifle lasted dunno hundreds of rounds already before me =/ First time IA in simulation/live firing.. And it has to be in the test rounds, not practice somemore.

We ceased firing after my group of firers reshot at midnight, and after declaring and thorough check for spent cartridges on us we took the bus back to company line, reaching at 0145 where we had RO, night snack and some admin time before lights off at 0215 hrs. Guess I was the only few people to actually call out when lights was on at that ungodly hour.. Lol.

Friday's schedule was supposed to be like this..
0645 - Reveille
0700 - Breakfast
0730 - First Parade
Foot Drills
Foot Drills
1200 - Lunch
Foot Drills
Foot Drills
1730 - Dinner
2100 - RO

Which was what the other two platoons who did not go range on Thursday got. Instead, we spent much of the day doing area and rifle cleaning instead. Argh, hate those carbon stains on the silver shiny parts.

After dinner we had another standby conducted by the CDS and COS (Lol..) and our platoon was commended by them for having godly toilets with no smell.. RO was funny, especially with 3SG JQ as CDS.

"All those FAILURES raise up your hands! What are failures in Chinese called?
失败者!
So smart. Correct! Do you all want to go to the gym?
No platoon sergeant!
But.. if you all don't go then you all will have too much energy to sleep, then you all wake up all drowsy drowsy half dead one.

Ok all of you all close your eyes.
Imagine you all are forming up and heading to the gym
Once inside you all begin some super siong workout until damn shag
Then someone banged the weights and you all all down 50.
Finally ok, time's up already. You all form up and head back here (to the hard court)
Ok open your eyes

I ask again, did you all go to the gym?
Yes platoon sergeant!
Excellent!"

Another standby area in this morning by CSM at 0530 meant we had to wake up at 0445 again to prepare as well as change to Smart No.4. Passed it nicely, chionged for breakfast with field pack and managed to catch the 0730 ferry to freedom, albeit for a few hours only before the real hell starts.
__________________________________________

So now its 1700 hrs.. Leaving for Pasir Ris soon already. Sian arh! 5D4N no phones or proper bathing facilities and beds. The 'highlight' of every recruit's time in Tekong - Field Camp.

Feels like I transited from Saturday morning to Sunday evening in a matter of like, 9 hours? =/

Spent the last few hours sleeping (oops).. and waiting for my phone to vibrate =P Scratched it this morning in the mad rush to listen to the bookout RO.. :(

Hopefully I'll return in one piece after Field Camp on Friday to collect results. So now this' it. Either I 'die' outfield or in the school hall.. Somehow.

Welcome to Field CampTekan Session!
Still owe our PS a lot after we failed his super ultmate niao(stingy) standby bed. He multiplies one mistake by the number of people in the bunk. That's why we are so so screwed from tomorrow onwards.

Good luck, have fun - And see you all on Friday!
Bet someone will be damn happy next week.. right.. Lol.. :P

Busy night ahead preparing back in Tekong..
