H-Town Artists on the Charts This Week
    Sunday. 9.24.06 12:26 pm

hanks to erratic booty-shaking and Bey-loving teenies, B'Day is still soaring on the charts with a whopping 161,594 scans this week. Wish I could say the same for that other H-Town chick...

B'Day was certified gold in a week, and is probably eyeing platinum sometime in October. It has now sold a total of 704,751 copies in just two weeks. Speaking of Bey, her smash single "Deja Vu" is No.6 on the Top Singles chart this week.
LeToya's self-titled debut slipped 17 steps down to No. 55 with a solid 16,896 scans this week. It's still shy of gold status, having only shifted 395,621 units.

Chamillionaire's Sound of Revenge is now hanging on for dear life in the Top 200, falling 21 places down to No.133. Revenge racked in 7,829 copies this week bringing Cham's total sales to 1,184.267. (Keep in mind that Sound of Revenge was released in 2005.)

And, strictly for giggles, I also noticed that Scarface Presents The Product - One Hunnid came in at No.180 on the Top R&B charts this week. Trust me, you don't wanna know how many copies it sold.

    Some Random S#!t...
    Sunday. 9.24.06 12:29 pm

First: Apparently Tyrese is trying to rap now under the name Black Ty, which most of you probably already know by now. The sad thing is- and I'm sure I'll catch hella flack from all of you for this -dude isn't half bad. As much as I wanted to come on here and talk trash about how wack he is, he's actually better than a lot of rappers that are gettin' deals these days. For anyone who feels the urge to satisfy their morbid curiousity, you can download his second mixtape, Ghetto Royalty, for free from his website www.headquarterentertainment.com. It's mixed by DJ S&S, and guest spots include Erick Sermon, Memph Bleek (yawn), Cassidy (double yawn), Kurupt, Big Tigger, Bishop Lamont, Mane-O and Stevie Wonder (huh?).

Second: I just got the new Demolition Men mixtape in the mail, and the shit is FIRE. For anyone who thinks the hyphy movement is limited to what you see on Rap City or Sucka Free Sunday or whatever, Nothin' but Slap 3 is a taste of what Yay Area hip hop is really about right now. The mix is hosted by Dem Hood Starz and mixed by Impereal & Devro, and has a bunch of new shit and exclusives from Ya Boy, Dem Hood Starz, Planet Asia, Richie Rich, Trackstar, and a ton of other people doing big shit in the Bay right now. You can hit up www.thedemolitionmen.com to get more info.

Third: For anyone paying attention to the new Kweli joint "Listen!!!", keep an eye peeled for West Coast graffiti big timer Kofie One in the video. Anyone in L.A. should know of him and his crew UTI by now, or of his canvases, but those of you who're in the dark should check out www.keepdrafting.com to check out his work.

Fourth: Since it's looking like Youtube's gonna get mentioned in every other blog I do (and about 20% of all the responses), I better be getting some kind of endorsement deal soon. Anyways, there's a video from Streets Illestrated that got added on Youtube of Spider Loc breaking it down about being a G-Unit Crip. It's not anything groundbreaking, but it's an interesting video overall. And of course there's some talk about Game on there...

Lastly: For those of you just tuning in, this blog wraps up week two of the Left Coast blog. Good lookin' to everyone who checked in this week, whether it was to start up a totally irrelevant argument about Killa Cam diss songs, bicker about the Game vs. Ras beef, argue with my views or complain about my blog, or to just read and move on. There have been some people saying that the blog writer (me) is not even on the West Coast. Wrong. I live in Cali and I've lived here all of my life. There's also been more talk that the blog writer must not be in L.A. because he didn't know that Long Beach 20's bang black and gold. You're right. I'm Not in Los Angeles. I'm in Sacramento. 409.27 miles from Long Beach. Just to clarify.

It's been a good first week for the blog. I'll see y'all next week.

Lupe Fiasco feat. Pharrell - "I Gotcha" video
    Sunday. 9.24.06 12:42 pm

This isn't the circlejerk that was "#1." Actually, you can't call that a circlejerk because Kanye and Pharrell are entirely too self-absorbed to jerk anyone but themselves.

Just yesterday we touched on the notion of rappers being free to have fun in their videos. While The Good Pastor Mason is one clownish extreme, Lupe Fiasco is what the game's been missing. Fuck a Juelz Santana.

Who told that phony-ass Alicia Keys that she was allowed to come outside? Unless that's actually Guadalupe's girl, she need to sit her happy-go-looky ass down somewhere.

This is one of them rare occasions where I aint got much slick to say about the video. It's clever, fun and well-done. Even though it's some green screen shit, it's pretty damn dope. It also doesn't hurt that Fiasco spits nails. Wouldn't be surprised to find the boarded up bodies of rappers in abandoned Chicago buildings.

I can't wait to get that 5th edition of Food & Liquor!

Cop the album--support good hip hop!

Posted by: naj. at September 22, 2006 11:32 AM

I copped the album Tuesday. Money well spent.

P.S. I think the bootleg was a classic though

Posted by: Wade at September 22, 2006 11:54 AM

Lupe is silly with it! Fuckin ridicoulous.

The video is aight, nothing spectacular but yeah, Lupe's flow makes up for it like shit.

I've had the bootleg all summer and I still got the album. Hit up Best Buy, they got the extended version with 3 bonus tracks. Plus it's only $9.99 so cop that!

    Posted by: D at September 22, 2006 11:55 AM

I'm really interested in what he's got going on. I love the song- the video..meh, but pretty much all videos after Do the Evolution have bored me.

    Good job, Lupe- good job.

Posted by: jaedalaurez at September 22, 2006 11:58 AM

I like Lupe and he's definitely what hip hop's missing. Haven't heard the entire album, but what I've heard is pretty good.

Pissy People: Clispe Wants To Lynch Their Record Label, Trick Daddy Has Beef With Hip-Hop
    Sunday. 9.24.06 1:06 pm

The folks over at Rolling Stone magazine online posted an interview with Clispe yesterday. Apparently the duo is pissy with their record label Jive and is begging to get released. Rolling Stone stated:

"As our interview with them began, Pusha snatched the recorder, looked around conspiratorially and let it out: 'I hate Jive. I hate them motherfuckers. With all my heart and all the passion and my soul I hate these bitches. It’s about the lynching of every staff member up in this motherfucker.'”

Well damn. They're salty because their album has been pushed back three times and there's no marketing plan in place for the duo. They told RS mag and others that they wish Jive would just release them so they can go do their own thing. Jive hasn't had a hip-hop group on the label in years, so Clipse says they don't know shit about hip-hop. While that may very well be true, is Clispe just using that as an excuse for falling off and making sub-par material? Speak on it...

Trick Daddy talked to MTV recently about not having beef like folks are saying with Rick Ross, but said he does have beef with hip-hop. Coming from Trick I started to not even read that mess, but the message has some truth. He told MTV:

"People aren't trying different things with their music," he said. "If it weren't for R&B, the [hip-hop] business would be f---ed up, to be honest. Remember how when you were little and you'd be crazy about a Snickers bar? But it don't really do nothing for you right now. That's how the albums have been lately to me. I mean, with the exceptions of some."

Trick also said he's the king of Dade county, Florida and everybody else is a protegee of his. So take it how you wanna. Maybe he's just mad nobody in the audience at the Ozone Awards taping last month was feeling "Breaker, Breaker," an upcoming new single he performed, so I hear.
If you haven't heard Game's new single "Strip Club-Let's Ride" yet, check it here
