Catching Up and Trip Fund Progress. Monday. 7.30.07 1:49 am It feels weird that I haven't updated in two days. I know that isn't very long at all, but still, let me update you all on my weekend: Saturday was cool because it felt really good to sleep in. Then I went around with Owen and we ended up at his mom's house were we proceeded to clean out her garage with his brother and father. His dad is giving us $10/hr to odd jobs for him so that we can raise money for our trip, and we made $30 just doing this, but for how messy it was, I feel like I should have gotten paid more. There are some things I'd rather not mention, but the most hilarious (and annoying) part was discovering that her dryer had not been connected to any sort of ventilation, so the lint just kinda went everywhere. And I really mean everywhere. After that, I got to hang out with Cecilee which was fun. Yay! Cecilia! We wanted to hang out with Patrick but that didn't really happen, so we just went back to my house and hung out. Today was alright. I went to the race track with Owen, his brother and their grandfather. I had never been before and didn't make any money, but it was still nice to be outside and see the pretty horses and just do something new for once. =] I also went to dinner with my mom and Joe. Whee! So, things are looking up for my trip to Japan. Here's what I've got so far. $200 in bank account as of right now $30 from garage cleaning $150 refund $500 unprovoked donation from the goodness of Mommy's heart. =] That's $880 out of the $2000 minimum that I'm trying to reach. I am making at least $100/week at work in addition to that, and I still need to do the bake/garage sale. Things are looking up. Thanks to everyone that has been visiting my page so far! It takes a while to build up revenue on NuTang but I appreciate that everyone has been trying to help. =] Comment! (13) | Recommend! Funny Dinner Moment Friday. 7.27.07 11:53 pm I honestly hope that someone other than me finds this funny. Keep in mind the following: I am white, my boyfriend's mother is white, my boyfriend and his brother are both half Korean. It's the four of us at dinner, and the waitress hands Owen the check: Owen: Why did she hand the check to me? Mom, you're paying and you're obviously the oldest. Owen's Mommy: Well, I made a comment about having dinner with you while she walked by, so maybe she assumed you were taking care of it. Owen: You said that after she put the check down. Owen's Mommy: Well, maybe she thinks you're trying to impress someone. Or that you're taking your mother out for dinner. Owen's brother: *points at me and Owen's mom* Well, I'm assuming she thought that you two were related... And there was a big laugh. =] Comment! (9) | Recommend! Work, Friends, School Friday. 7.27.07 9:00 pm Today was a pretty good work day. I have been feeling sort of awkward lately because one of the requirements where I work has to do with having a personal business binder (even though I don't get commission...sucks) and doing personal shopping with people. They also keep track of our sales as if they WERE commission, so that they can yell at us if we aren't making the numbers work. Needless to say, although I am not yet responsible for a sales goal, that makes me pretty nervous. I felt better today when one of my friend's mothers came into the store and dropped like $300 after I helped her pick up clothes. She also called later and asked for me specifically to do a send sale for her, which was cool. After work I went to Coldstone with Ellen and Berit. It was nice, I haven't seen them in a really long time, and I definitely missed them a lot. I want to hang out with them more before Berit goes back to Cali for school. I'm pretty much pooped (I'm having "girl problems," my feet hurt still, and I'm sweaty), but I still need to finish my mid-term exam for PHY 110. Ugh. I'm working on it right now, and it's proving to be more difficult than I thought. Three essay questions? Lame. I want to get most of it done before I have to go to dinner later so that I can hang out with Cecilee later tonight. Rowr, I just don't know! Anyway. I didn't get paid today, because I haven't been working long enough to get a paycheck yet, but I work 21 hours next week which means that I'll be making more money than I thought! I also got a tuition refund from school from a class that I dropped (see password protected entry for details), so things are looking up, as far as funding my trip. That's pretty much it for now. Have a great day, everyone! Comment! (2) | Recommend! Adventures! Sunday. 7.22.07 5:21 pm Last night, after a few hours of drinks, Korean food, Apples to Apples and Monopoly, Owen, his friends and I decided to continue the party at the pool in my neighborhood. This meant sneaking in, being that it was already past ten and the pool closed at nine. Regardless, after grabbing my swimsuit and shaving my legs (they were kinda manly) we headed off to the pool with towels and a few blankets. There were to fences perpendicular to one another: one was a chain-link about six feet tall, and the other was a chain-link topped with barbed wire, about eight or nine feet high. The idea was to throw the blankets over the barbed wire, climb the shorter fence and balance on it whist straddling the taller fence, then standing on top of a refrigerator on the other side and the jumping down onto the property. It was way less complicated than it sounds. I wore my flip-flops, considering the fact that they'd be easy to put on if I really had to run from someone that caught us trespassing. I did not, however, consider the fact that flip-flops, especially the cheap ones from old navy, ARE NOT IDEAL FOR CLIMBING, and I have a fairly painful puncture wound in the bottom of my right foot to show for it. As difficult as it was to get on and off of the property, I had a lot of fun. I also realized that last night was most likely the sneakiest thing I had ever participated in since I can even remember. Sad, isn't it? I don't have enough adventures, but I will post as I experience more! Comment! (4) | Recommend! Volunteering and UW Saturday. 7.21.07 6:18 pm Today I volunteered at the Federal Way Symphony's "Garden Tour" fund raiser. It was only three hours, so it was not as bad as I thought it would be, but it was still a bit dull. I felt kind of ripped off because Owen and Evan got walkie-talkies (they were in charge of parking) and I got to sit at a table with Deirdre (Owen's mom)'s finance handing out raffle tickets and selling water bottles. Walkie-talkies automatically make any job cooler, as I discovered when I was covering Owen's duties while he was in the bathroom. Evan decided that my call sign is "Fire Ant." All right, I'm cool with that. Good thing it didn't start raining until after we had finished our shifts. I am starting to get worried about my UW application. I have not sent it in yet, but my essay is not turning out to be as great as I had hoped. I cannot send it in until my mom gets home next week so that she can give me all of the financial info that I need to fill out, which does give me more time to work on it. I can't help but thinking, though, that I am going to get rejected again. Sure, I am a good writer, and my GPA has improved considerably since high school (when I last applied), but I am still freaking out about it. What if I don't get in? Then what? Comment!
