Sunday. 4.1.07 10:23 am
I made it home! The flight home had me in quite a state. My sinsuses and ears were so sore I thought I'd been stabbed in the head and it was going to fall apart. I was in tears.
Dallas itself was an adventure. The first night there we found a wonderfully comfie pub in the West End. It had books and couches! My kinda place! Classes were a bit tedious, but I got through them. Spent an inordinate time (even for me) watching the Discovery Channel. Mythbusters had a special on Pirates! On my day off I went to the Dallas Zoo, which was fantastic! The I went to Fair Park to see the Planetarium and the museums there. They were really nice until the shuttle informed me it could not, in fact, pick me up as t he guy had told me that morning. That was one of the most expensive 7 minute taxi rides of my life. The second week was slightly harder, as is generally the case. I didn't do a whole lot. I almost went out one night with some of the girls, but I didn't. I almost took an trip to San Antonio for a few hours, but that didn't happen. Our last night in Dallas my roommate and I decided we needed to go walk around the mall to let off some steam. Andre kind of invited himself along, but it turned out to be quite an amusing experience, as he'd never been on public transportation before (mischievous giggle). Karma got back at me, though, because we got hit with a maelstrom standing on the platform waiting for the train. Before the bus back we got pomegranate lemonade. I don't know what was IN the lemonade, but we were more hyper and ridiculous than I've been in a long time. Man, don't mess with that shit. I passed my final pretty well. Missed a couple stupid ones, but I wasn't feeling well and I couldn't really concentrate. All in all I did pretty well, though.

So that's that for now...there are bits and pieces I'm sure I've forgotten, but I'll fill you all in later. :)
it's good to be back

long cold days...
Sunday. 3.18.07 1:50 am
I woke up to the cacophony of pipes being wailed on in the apartment upstairs. I could feel the migraine coming, but I hoped it would give me the day. No dice. The weatherman had forecast snow, but what was rally falling from the sky was not snow in the least. Half-thawed gaspacho fell from the sky as I realized I'd missed my bus stop, forcing me to navigate the slush for a few blocks. Justin called en route, so he got the play-by-play account of my trying not to fall on my face in the slush taking over the busy intersection of Broad and Main. I made it to work without further event, but work would have plenty of excitement on its own. Everything was canceled, and since I work in the afternoon, just about everything this weekend had already been snatched by the morning's displaced passengers. Nonetheless, we set to it with vigour. All in all it wasn't intolerable. Then we missed our break and my body noticed I hadn't eaten all day. Five seconds later my corp was playing tug of war between throwing up or passing out right there at the ticket counter. Mary immediately banished me from our station and sent me on a break. There was pizza. Oh, was there pizza! It was tasty going down, not so tasty coming back up. My low triggered the dormant migraine like an H-bomb. The rest of the day was one nauseated, vomiting, light sensitive, room spinning adventure after another, but I made it through the day.
That's where things got really interesting. Nothing befits a proper send-off to two weeks in 80degree Dallas like a Nordic promenade through the tundra. I think I STILL have ice in my ears. I made it to 30th, and the R5 wasn't as late as it could've been, so I figured I was out of the woods. Then I stepped onto Lansdale soil (buried somewhere under several inches of snow and ice) and all Hell broke loose...maybe Hell DID freeze over? Miscommunication as usual, I ended up having to walk home. There were no other footprints to follow, as anyone stupid enough to walk in that mess had passed by hours before I had. Every time I took a step I sunk and hyper-extended my knees. It took me a LONG time to walk home. I was frustrated beyond belief, and I'd lost feeling almost immediately in my face, hands, and feet. I'd also fallen once right off the bat and another four or five times mid-trip. I was soaked to the bone. I held in tears until I got home, certain they'd just freeze to my face and make things worse. By the time I reached home I was furious and exhausted, so I decided it was bed time.

Today I finished my packing, then headed out to band practice. Brian didn't show up, so they humoured me and let me sing. Unfortunately pneumonia left me severely out of tune. My lungs feel different, and I haven't really had the chance to figure out how to redirect air where it needs to be to control my voice yet. I even do it once in a while when I talk. So, I sounded "wrong" to say the least, but it was fun to be behind a mic for an hour. After practice was another snow expedition to the Mannayunk train station to head into Center City for the day. Of course, St Patrick's Day means lots of drunk kids or "going to be drunk" happy kids taking SEPTA. I don't think there's more of a stupidity amoeba as there is this one day a year. Luckily, it's a short ride. Once in the city we headed straight to Showcase where I spent an inordinate amount of money on comic books. I haven't allocated part of my budget for comicy goodness in a long time, so it was relatively tame. I'm turning Chris into more and more of a comic book nerd. From there we took an increasingly frigid walk to Quizznos to defrost with soup and hot pastrami, then over to the Ritz to see Zodiac. I'm too sleepy to get into the specifics of the movie, but I enjoyed it thoroughly, not JUST because of my real crime/serial killer addiction, and not just because I think it's the first move to ever mention Pinole, CA.
After the movie was the same freezing stroll-train-car combo, and home we are! I'm waiting for my hair to dry to hopefully catch a FEW hours of sleep, as we're catching the 6:50 am train in to get me to the plane on time.

So, this is it for a couple weeks. Send me some love while I'm gone! I'll miss you all!

still at no strikes!
Thursday. 3.15.07 12:38 am
I forgot how working at the airport makes me long for absolute silence...gah.

Today my head split into two factions who couldn't agree on a goddamned thing. One side wanted to be inconsolably upset, the other one big ray of sunshine. The hyper side won out, but all day I felt like I wasn't myself. I wafted through my day in a heightened fantasmagoric state where I was manic but also aware of being on the verge of tears. This breach in cognizance obviously added a bit of viscosity to my thought processes. Enough to make me think about things for a good 30 seconds before I could complete a simple task... NOT a day for JP to decide I needed to take my online test, but I didn't do too horribly. Hah! The day in and of itself wasn't terrible once I got to work. I was a bit hazy on the trains, though. RIGHT in the middle of an oversell they choose to tell me I got cited for a no-punch a few days ago, which I thought was an occurance. The thought of having one before I even go to Dallas made me feel like leaving then and there and giving up for good, and it was the fight of the week trying not to cry while I handled passengers and worked my flight. Instead of freaking out I wandered over to the book store on my break to find a couple books I might like to take to training with me. I think I've decided on Finn and Born on a Blue Day. Both looked extremely interesting. Perusing books calmed me, as usual, as did the hugs I was able to manage a little later and the assurance that a no-punch is not one of my strikes. Whew! My train from 30th was 20 minutes late, which made the wait for my second train extremely long. Ugh.

In other news....Lansbowl burned down this morning! =0( I'll miss you, Lansbowl! AND no...contrary to popular belief, I did NOT torch it myself!

Ok, this has gone on long enough....it's time to do some packing then hit the hay. Gnight all! Here's to a better tomorrow! I'll be sans trainer (well technically I'll have a sub...but I'll miss Mary), so it could be a slow brain day. I've gotten so used to the way she works with me. Ok...for real this time...nighty night!

due to discrepancies beyond our control, i walked home from the train tonight. i really didnt mind, as it is a gorgeous night, reminiscent of spring, and just in time. it was a pretty mild day at work, and tomorrow promised to be of the same caliber.

this morning the nice old italian guy at the cafe in the strain station asked me if i was losing weight. he used to sell me my morning diet pepsi when i worked at the zoo. i was extremely flattered that he noticed. he's a nice guy.

thats it really...i had something slightly more substantial to write about, but it skipped my mind on the way home. i'll write it down on the train tomorrow if i remember...all i know is the stars are gorgeous in the sky tonight. perfect wishing stars.

"then we shall fight in the shade!"
Sunday. 3.11.07 10:22 pm
Chris got home from work, and we decided to go see 300 even though the IMAX screenings were sold out. We got to KoP, bought our tickets, and headed over to the mall only to find that Arby's is closed! WHYOHWHY!!! We also found out, much to sweet serendipity, that Mrs Field's makes sugar free smoothies! Yummy.

By then it was time to make our way back to the theatre for our feature presentation. Oh my dear Lord! Intense, extraordinarily vivid, and just, wow. I'm a hugs Frank Miller fan (you can all thank Tom for that one), but I've never read 300. I bet you can all guess what I'll be procuring on my next visit to Showcase Comics. You betcha! It'll give me something to read in DAL. There's more of a list, but that just shot to the top of it. At first I thought maybe it was a good thing we didn't see it in IMAX, because maybe my head couldn't take the intensity on such a large scale. Upon further consideration I decided that's a risk I'm willing to take. It could very well be the cinemagasm my head will need after two weeks in a mindlessly repetitive classroom setting. I can only pray it's still up on the larger than life screen when I get home.

That's it for now...I'm currently uploading the pictures from todays flower show excursion. They'll be posted soon!
