Memorial service of a stillborn baby
Thursday. 3.6.08 11:02 pm
for the first time in my life, I went with my family to attend the memorial service of a 14 weeks old fetus (child) who passed away recently in his mother's womb.

to most people in the world, he would not be considered as a person who lived as he has no birth certificate nor death certificate. However, to us who cherish lives and believe that every life began right from the fertilisation of the egg and not just when the child is born, he did lived and bought joy to the family for a brief moment before he died to be with the Lord. His death did not catch his parents by surprise because we recognise that everyone of us has to die one day but the timing of his death came far sooner than expected...

tears flow, hymns of praise and adoration to God lingered in the air as the fetus who was kept in a small, beautiful box was lowered into the grave before flowers, teddy bears from his older siblings were tossed in as a gift to their younger brother who did not have a chance to meet them in this life...

Yet, we are glad because we know that they will all eventually meet again one day in the new heaven and earth, where God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be anguish nor grief nor pain any more...

The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord!
The Book of Job, Chapter 1 Verse 21b, the Bible, the Word of God

this song speaks volume to my heart :)
Tuesday. 3.4.08 10:16 am

translated lyrics:
I pray, for i am nothing.
I pray, for i clearly know i need to seek Your will as it's shown to me.
I pray, for I am searching.
I pray, for Your love is what I need.
On my knees, through the valleys You walk with me.
Some things I only wanna let You know because no one loves me like You, my Lord.
Though tears of pain may fall out, You're with me I have no doubt.
As day breaks Lord I wanna cry to You, because You so love me, You'll pull me through.
The strength that i need I receive every morning, Your grace is all I need.

Money: you work for it or it works for you? you give it to those in need (like the little match girl) or you receive it as those in need?
Monday. 3.3.08 8:47 pm
Don't work for money as far as possible. It will become an addiction that will only bring you bondage. A good-paying job does not give you real security. it only gives you a false sense of security on a month by month basis. If economy is bad, your job may no longer be secure.

Instead, work for passion and enjoyment and enrichment to others and build a system that runs on its own to generate passive income or invest in a system so that money will work for you!

Don't be the system either (self-employed) that will force you to be too dependent on yourself. If you fall sick or run into any mishap, that's the end of your income too!

Example
Don't fetch water from the river to sell to the village. Build a pipe system to transport water from the river to sell to the village instead. The first is active income, the second is passive income that frees up your time and energy to do even more meaningful things in life!

Money is not an end. Never earn money for the sake of money or just for materialism.

Money is a mean to an end. The end should be something meaningful and beneficial to others. Only then will you be able to come up with a concrete plan and persevere to implement it in spite of whatever failures you must face along the way.

6 Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

7 Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed;

2 Cor. 9:6-8

I'm beginning to understand God's economy where more giving actually results in more receiving!

This story never fails to move my eyes to tears and prompts me to give to those in need so that they do not have to go through what she has gone through...

what really matters
Monday. 3.3.08 3:06 am
I realised recently that I was so conditioned by this society that I am living in that I lost the value of cherishing relationships fully.

performance or meeting expectations is not the way to find my self worth or meaning.

relationship is.

opening my heart to Him and others is. no pretense. no fear. no suspicion.

simplicity and sincerity. no other way.

Running a different race...
Tuesday. 2.26.08 3:06 am
I can literally fall asleep within seconds these days simply because of some household chores, work and the kids that I enjoy handling with my wife daily... tiring to the body but refreshing to the soul since I felt that I am finally out of the rat race! My family is living in Singapore but we are able to run at our own pace and not be dragged along and pressurised to do too many things with too little time!

I felt sorry for my nieces and other kids whom I know these days as I see for myself the unnecessary stress that they faced from school. One of them cried on Sun evening because she has to go back to school on Mon to face her fierce and unreasonable teacher! The teacher actually scolded her when she asked for marks that she deserved but was not given because the teacher added it wrongly! One of them wet his pants almost everyday because he was too fearful of asking for permission to go to the washroom! One of them vomited because she swallowed her food in a hurry since there is not enough time to eat during recess. I asked one of them who is in Primary 1 if she enjoyed playing with her friends in school and she said that she has no time to play with anyone as the extra time is meant to be used for spelling revision!

Why not let them grow at their own pace and enjoy the friendship and fun of childhood instead of facts and figures of textbooks!?

updates...
Saturday. 2.23.08 11:04 am
my kids are helping out with the chores more readily now that we are without a helper. I'm very proud of them even though they do not always do the best job at most tasks! very impressed, especially with my son cos he is really doing a lot to help us and his sisters! I think he will make a really good husband next time! :)

thanks to y.k, the sales of the physics handbook are picking up! although there are a few errors in the print (which you can find on the link on the left column of this blog), everything are beginning to take shape and some spin-offs in collaboration are on the way. If things go as planned, I can go on to the next stage of publication, which I will keep a secret right now...

I miss talking to all my students... hoping to keep in touch with all of you! :)

deeper thoughts: I am learning to be still in a busy place like Singapore so that I can tune in and hear that small still voice and also to grow my roots deeper into the soil...
