Jules Cafe and Bar
Saturday. 5.8.10 10:19 pm
Wrapped up my day with a short hop down to Jules' for a Mother's Day dinner in the midst of a sleepy private estate just five minutes from my place. It is an Australian restaurant that serves an eclectic mix of fusion fare for a rather reasonable price catered to the preferences of the mostly expatriate crowd staying around the nearby Australian International School. Even so, there were quite a few locals there on a weekend night. Probably the place gets rowdier as the night wears on as it transforms into a bar when the games come live on the big screen.

In the end I was the one who decided on what to order as my parents gave up trying to visualise what they offered via the menu. The food really took some time but all was forgotten when we finally put fork and knife to the delectable fare placed in front of us.

003
Grilled Garlic Prawn with Fetta and Chili Flakes

004
Grass-fed Tasmanian Scotch Fillet with Potato Gratin and Red Wine, Mushroom Jus

005
Grilled Red Snapper with Mash Potato, Roast Vegetable Salad and Lemon Vinaigrette

006
Lamb Cutlets with Warm Potato and Mint Salad, Wilted Spinach with Mustard Dressing.

007
Orange and Cardamom Cake with Ginger Nut Ice-cream

008
Sticky Fig Pudding with Bailey's Creme Caramel Sauce and Vanilla Bean Ice-cream

Special mention for the beef and desserts - My medium rare meat was inch perfect and went very well with the potato and mushrooms, through the latter was a tad too salty. The cake and pudding were sticky yet soft.. unlike normal ones one can procure elsewhere. The pudding really did it for me. Yum (:

No service charge and nett price makes it a very welcoming place for huge gatherings (easy to go Dutch without the need for a treasurer and calculator). Service was prompt through and you could leave a tip if you feel obliged to. Overall a wonderful dining experience with a rustic village feel and the best thing is - its just right by my house .

Here's the address if you're interested
Do make reservations as the dining area's rather small.

The night beckons yet again
Sunday. 5.2.10 4:44 pm
I've been eating too much recently.. And it's not because I was genuinely hungry. Well, have to stop binging on comfort food sooner or later else I will not be able to fit into the tailor-made No. 3 in a month's time.

Nothing to do once again. Alone in my enclave with only the thoughts in my head accompanying me through what is left of my brief sojourn into the civilian world. Besides checking Facebook for the 138648263th time, nothing else is keeping me connected to the outside world which I so crave for, not like some people who are fortunate enough to be always perennially busy on weekends with the same few persons.

Maybe I'm just being cynical. Else I'm being rather envious. I'd say both.
I hate it when I'm just not good enough.. and when people smokesceen me about their intentions. Maybe at the end of the day I'll just end up being manipulated and used by others (bloody hell).

So many ways to see the conundrum as it is. Its now 6.30pm already and no one's online. And my mood just turned sour again. >.< Oh wells.. Moodswings~

S6A - Helix and the Marina Bay Sands, 010510
Sunday. 5.2.10 8:34 am
Up after a good sleep brought about by just one can of Heineken. Its not very often I resort to such measures to soothe my feelings - and bring about some peace of mind, albeit temporarily.

Welcome to a brand new day, and jockeying for influence has never been tougher especially when more parties join in the fray complicating things even further. Whee. Interesting to see how it goes though. New experience.. (:

Had a great time catching up with the class.. Our first outing since we settled into our respective postings two weeks ago with Louis having experienced his first ever book out from Tekong. Hopefully we'll be able to have more people next Sat once the OCTs are out from confinement.. (:

Well Iron Man 2 was an alright movie. And I had become used to a quiet G700 these few days. Met up with them at City Hall before eating at Waraku in Marina Square. The food's.. pretty decent I'll say, but not worth the amount we forked out.

001
Trying to find 'The Helix'. Today's ST article mentioned that it could have been named 'Chromosome Bridge' instead. >.<

005
Reached the area but did not cross the bridge as it was very crowded. Apparently we can't cross to the other side. Thus people just remain stuck on the bridge camwhoring.

007
Three distinct details there.. One couple, one group interested in getting the best shots and whose members possess imba 8.1 and 5.0 mpx camera phones (no prizes for guessing who are they) and the guys who are more interested in army talk (no surprises there as well)

010
Bayfront Bridge is oh-so-crowded.. Best way to get to the Sands is still by rail.

013
Took a few minutes to take this shot as before that Jontay just sauntered in between us to snap photos of the bridge and Sands

014
Initiator of this visit pondering about the design on the bridge, Sands and sky garden? Hm.. :D Aaron so accommodating as usual

015
And this was what we came to view.. A packed pedestrian bridge a.k.a 'The Helix', a half completed Sands with the rooftop sky-garden and some random cranes on the other side. Shall make our way down again when the giant lotus (is it?) is completed and the scaffolding are all removed.

Dinner was at Carl's Jr (again ^^) and I was the slowest eater (yet again >.<). Their ThickBurgers are one of a kind. Deliciously good (:

Took the Circle Line with Judy and Kaihui.. And I got bullied.. Lol.. =X. We smokescreen-ed KH to try out the Circle Line (even though its a few minutes longer to get home) and did not expect to find it that crowded in a train half the length of the ones on the other older lines. Alighted at Bishan and managed to grab a polo tee from BHG before the store ceased operations for the day. Medium's a wee bit tiny.. but it'll do I guess.

ST today reported that a slew of eating contests are taking place now in Singapore, including a shrimp wanton eating contest that has attracted the likes of America's Joey Chestnut and Japan's Takeru Kobayashi to town. Maybe if they initiate the slowest eater contest I will probably stand much more of a chance.

And I just happened to miss 'Fantasy Comes Alive! in Singapore 2010' featuring FFXII composer Hitoshi Sakimoto. Well.. Did not know about it early enough and the $20 tickets are a steal really for an orchestral performance at the University Cultural Centre (NUS). Next time then..

The Inevitable
Saturday. 5.1.10 11:13 pm
And it has been a harrowing past few minutes.

I just felt all the fight and spirit dissipating from within; leaving me with a heavy heart laden with fear.. even to the point of abject despair.

Well that's what happens with someone gets too complacent and overestimated the other party's tolerance threshold. Well, it may be due to a combination of factors yet this is the one main spark that triggered the inferno engulfing me.

I.. just can't help but feel like a useless impertinent obstinate fool that brought this upon myself. The void within shall remain there for quite some time yet.

Jos should be shaking her head again.
And for that I'd let myself down once more.

I had tempted fate, and fell a long way into the depths of the dark unknown.

And how things have played out.. so interestingly thus far, almost as though someone up there is out to mock my naivety and lack of finesse in doing things.

Thus for the umpteen time, I am so powerless to change perceptions, to take back all I should have not uttered or typed, so inferior to others.. and so on.

Sorry for ranting >.< Just had to get a few things off my chest that had accumulated over so so so long..

One last night
Sunday. 4.25.10 4:02 pm
Well.. Its Sunday yet again. I just want to see my friends everyday.. So much so that I don't even mind going back to school! Haha. However our schooling days are over (at least for now). Each of us have diverged from the common path we were on; to each his own. Gone are the days of fun, laughter, class benches, band rooms and eating together. In their place comes work, work, army, army, work and army. Not easy to meet up with people nowadays, or even to meet up with the SAME person on consecutive days. Hm.

Rewind to eight days ago. It was our last night of block leave and the MWOs organised a dinner/chill session at.. of all places, Serangoon Gardens which is so so my area. Response was great.. and though the food was not very outsidestanding, the camaraderie and banter more than made up for it. Of course army chat dominated the proceedings.. guess the rest just have no choice but to bear with it for a wee bit longer (20 months and beyond)

014

No idea The Impossible Test proved to be so alluring that everyone wanted to have a shot at bettering Chai's score of 203 seconds.

Seven days ago what's left of the usual S6A gang met up at Central for lunch at The Manhattan Fish Market to send everyone off to their postings (and both sY and Jtan to confinement in.. Delta?) Walked the length of the river over to Marina Square where KH left for tuition. My expensive SAFRA card was finally called into action at Supercue. Now I need to recoup the rest of the $300 plus bucks I paid for that thing.

Photos are with Aaron, Jontay and Tiantian.
~WHERE ARE THEYYYY ^^

Just last night NHBand threw a party to thank Mr Tan for his six years of service with us, and his induction into the alumni band. It had been a great honour being under his baton and hopefully we'll be able to make music sometime at the end of the year . I felt super old during the whole event though >.< with all the juniors around. Haha. To think we were once their age? Woah.. Nostalgia~

Rest of the photos are with Angella I think. I only took one photo right at the end.. And a pity I did not manage to take with everyone there.. =/

001
One for 401'07.. Or what's left of it in band now?

***

Booking booking in in civvies for last parade tonight.. after dinner somewhere. Hope I survive the upcoming week and pass my IPPT.. and also get my marksman tmr and the $200 that comes with it

I WANT TO NEVER GET ANY EXTRAS. Got extras give someone else. I'm contented with just the one regimental guard duty that I can't escape from. And I want that one to be on a Sunday, not Saturday. I prefer sleeping on my own bed AT HOME ^^

Maybe it was a blessing after all..
Sunday. 4.25.10 11:52 am
My new posting, that is.

Still am a trainee for the next two months.. which means we're the lowest lifeforms around MPTS (the SCTs are higher ranked though they're trainees as well..), just like during BMT..

Yet trainee life here is not as bad as recruit life on Tekong. Compared to what others experience in other vocations (argh heard that the combat engineers are one thoroughly unlucky lot.. with eight men carrying 180kg boat and two carrying 80kg motors.. and with a whole gang of tattooed regular dropout commanders taking a bunch of HC/RJ people)

Since Mowbray is a damn small camp, we have our meals at Kranji - more specifically the HQ 4SAB cookhouse (there's another one deep inside the camp which looks.. not as nice as ours). The cooks there seem to have a penchant for oil - serving all kinds of fried food imaginable. And there's seemingly free flow of meat as well.. not just one type but TWO, along with two other sides, the soup and dessert. Then again as our commanders told us.. the food poses a grave danger to our IPPT results.

Feels like I'm back to school once again due to the heavy emphasis on knowledge over fitness. Days are filled with lectures without much PT (this week we only had an Orientation Run, some static right after and a rather drab AGR/Speed on Friday). Must fight hard not to fall asleep, as this will result in one extra weekend guard duty if caught.

And speaking of extras, we can get them for almost every mundane mistake possible. Long hair, falling in late, not paying compliments, not observing lightsout timing, sitting on bed when its not lunch or dinner, sitting on the bed with footwear on, not doing a thorough enough area cleaning, screwed bearings etc etc. Not training to be MPs for nothing eh?

Not a lot of commissioned officers around as well, as MP Command opts more for experience. Hence a bucketload of Warrants and Staffs, making it a headache trying to recognise every single one of them and paying the appropriate compliments, as failing which.. we sign our Sats and Suns away.

ATP at Pasir Laba on Monday, 4km route march on Wed and an IPPT on Thursday. Cool.. packed week ahead. Ok, don't compare to OCS/Sispec - we don't have morning runs at all.

Ok, we are expected to be much more disciplined than them though. No such thing as ba long long do whatever you like as long as can meet timing. Drill-wise as well. Cannot take shortcuts anymore. Things my platoon did in BMT like 'autopilot' and doing nonsense while marching are strictly out of the window. Lol.

Booking in at 2100 hrs tonight because of range the next day.. Which will start in the morning and end at midnight -.-

Passing out on the 22th of June, a Tuesday. Take leave come lehhhhh

Or maybe not cos I'm just not a good enough friend >.<

About girls..
Sunday. 4.25.10 2:30 am
Plucked this off the net in an attempt to reinvigorate the blog before the (expected) deluge of updates later in the morning..

Hm.. Guess this is pretty true?

31 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT GIRLS

1. When a girl says she's sad, but she isn't crying, it means she's crying in her heart.

2. When she ignores you after you've done something wrong, it's best to give her some time to cool down before touching her heart with an apology.

3. A girl can't find anything to hate about the guy she loves (which is why it is so hard for her to 'get over him' after the relationship's over.)

4. If a girl loves a guy, he will always be on her mind every minute of the day, even though she flirts with other guys.

5. When the guy she likes smiles and stares deep into her eyes, she will melt.

6. A girl likes to hear compliments, but usually not sure how to react to them.

7. When a particular guy flirts with a girl very often, a girl would start thinking the guy likes her. So if you treat a girl just as a friend, go easy on the smiles and stare ok?

8. If you don't like a girl who likes you, break it to her gently.

9. If a girl starts avoiding you after you reject her, leave her alone for a while. If you still treat her as a friend, talk to her.

10. Girls enjoy talking about what they feel. Music, poetry, drawings and writing are ways of expressing themselves (which explains why most girls like writing journals).

11. Never tell a girl that she is useless in anyway.

12. Being too serious can turn a girl off.

13. When the guy she likes calls her for the first time, the girl may act look uninterested during the call. But as soon as the phone is back on the hook, she will whoop with joy and immediately start telephoning her friends to spread the news.

14. A smile means a lot to a girl.

15. If you like a girl, try making friends with her first. Let her get to know you.

16. If a girl says she can't go out with you because she has to study, leave.

17. But if she still calls you or expect a call from you, stay.

18. Don't try to guess a girl's feelings. Ask her.

19. Hearing the words "I love you" is a great reassurance to a girl that she is beautiful.

20. After a girl falls in love with a guy, she'll wonder why she never noticed him before.

21. If you need tips on how to flirt with a girl, read romance stories.

22. When class pictures come out, a girl would first check who is standing next to her crush before actually looking at herself.

23. A girl's ex-crush will always be in her memory, but the guy she loves now stays in her heart.

24. Girls love having fun!

25. A simple 'Hi' can brighten a girl's day.

26. A girl's best friends usually know best what she is feeling and going through.

27. Girls hate it when a guy pays attention to them just to get close to their 'prettier' friend.

28. Love means devotion, caring and happiness to a girl, in that order.

29. Some girls care about looks, some care about brains, but ALL girls want a guy who will love and care for them.

30. Girls want nothing more than to feel loved.

31. Girls always hope that they can always remain as friend with their ex. But never know how
