household chores and kids: a guy's point of view
Wednesday. 3.19.08 12:21 pm
it's been about a month since my helper left and i began to realise how terribly lousy i am in doing household chores! I'm putting on the L plate for most of the work I have to do as I did them too slowly or not thoroughly enough to meet my wife's standards! I truly respect and salute all housewives for their capabilities in doing their chores so well! I have lots to learn from them!

based on all my years of training and teaching experience, I realised that the most difficult group of people to train are my own children! They just don't respond to commands or instructions as readily as others, they like to take their own sweet time to do things, they repeat the same mistakes over and over again on a daily basis and they are not as keen to learn from you as from others. I felt like I'm a tape recorder whose "rewind" button is stuck and going on an endless cycle! sounds familiar to you? ;) the most difficult part is that you can't see the results so soon and have to trust that what you are doing will bear fruit one day! and you can't leave them alone to "die" or do whatever they want or change the class altogether cos they are your very own! but in spite of these, they never fail to melt my heart... :)

my conclusion: the world under my own roof is tougher than the real world out there! hahaha! It's a commando school, where i'm still a recruit who needs to be polished! :) YES SIR!

say, said
Thursday. 3.13.08 10:51 am
went out with some of my ex-students (a pity I did not get to meet 2 of them) today! it was a great time of catching up! got to know some stuff, which they thought i should know but i didn't. so I'm labelled to be in the 1830s... oh well, i got to see it for myself and reminded the person of the implications, out of genuine concern. not sure if the person will be able to take it positively but i felt i got to say what i got to say... so i said :)

wanted man at large...
Wednesday. 3.12.08 5:29 am
police has been patrolling my area more frequently than usual these days and there are posters along many lamp posts and railings. It's all because of the wanted man (JI leader, Mas Selamat, my nephews called him "Nasi Lemak" because they misheard it as that!) who is still at large in Singapore.

many years back, the most wanted man (a serial murder) was found having breakfast at the coffee shop located outside the road that leads to my neighborhood. there is a large forest reserve around my area so it can be a possible hideout for him and it's pretty convenient for him to sneak into one of the houses to get food or clothes.

some unexpected things resulted from his escape. from the combing of the forested areas, 40 illegal immigrants were captured. 2 men were given suspicious looks because of their assemblance to the wanted man. a bus driver use the situation to set up a motorcycle rider who had a road rage incident with him by accusing him to be an accomplice. but the funniest of all (to me) was when an email was sent with a poster attachment that says: In U.S, there is prison break (the drama). In S.G, there is toilet break! (he escaped because of that!) ;)

like minded fathers?
Monday. 3.10.08 11:50 pm
I'm enjoying myself homeschooling my kids with my wife and working part-time but I do long to find other fathers who have the same thinking and life-style as I do. In this way, we can meet up to support and encourage one another to go along this less travelled road while we let other guys fight it out and find their sense of achievement in their careers.

up to now, I have yet to find one... but I'm hopeful that such fellow companions will come one day and form the knights around the round table...

how thoughtfully designed is water...
Monday. 3.10.08 6:40 am
I was teaching my student about the special property of water, such that it expands when it goes below 4 deg. C. This causes water will begin to float instead of sinking down to the bottom and creating a convention current to cool the water further. This is crucial as it will cause the temperature of water to remain at around 4 deg. C and eventually cause the layer of ice to freeze over the top of the lake or ocean so that it acts as a layer of insulation for sea creatures to continue to survive in winter.

Honestly speaking, how can such a well designed property of water be happening because of random processes in evolution? it has to come from a caring and thoughtful Designer/Creator who had His creation of sea animals in mind! Don't you think so!?
