Is Religion The Opium Of The Masses?
Tuesday. 11.25.08 2:53 pm
Marx’s idea of religion is somewhat ambiguous. At least the exponents of Marxist ideology have turned the table on him. That is why a clarification is to be sought.
Sloganeering Marxists have repeatedly said that religion is the opium of the masses. The question is that had Marx wanted to mean what underlies in this short precept? Had he really wanted religion to be bypassed by the masses?
The truth lies elsewhere. The downtrodden people all over the world down the ages have been pained at the way they they have been trated. There is every reason for them to have suffered the angst of of existence. In clinical science, we have been offered to go for anagesia for the physical pains we suffer and this way we have found a true remedy for all sorts of our physical pains.
What happens to the suffering people who don’t have any way whatsoever to smooth their pains of existential pain? What they will do in that case? Who will shelter them in their times of misery? Marx also had no answer in his time. Rather he opined that suffering people have no other options but to take to religion which like opium can soothe their pains at least for the time being. And there is absolutely nothing wrong of them in their falling prey to religion. Without the benevolent impact of analgesia of religion, there is no way for them to bear with the situation.
So, Marx never repudiated religion but rather he supported the role played by religion in no uncertain terms. Without this prejudice, the oft-quoted fragmented slogan “Religion is opium of the masses” turns out to be vague political jargon not in conformity with the Marx’s real idea of religion. He knew quite how to address the issue in true perspective.

An Invitation To Read Gibran's The ProPhet
Sunday. 11.23.08 11:27 pm
If you have not read The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran, here are a few gem of lines I am quoting from my memory. I am sure you will all like them all the same :

"Al Mustafa. the chosen and the beloved. who was dawn unto his own day, had waited twelve years in the city of Orphalese for his ship that was to return him back to the isle of birth
"And in the twelvth year, on the seventh day of Ielool, the month of reaping, he climbed the hill without the citywalls and looked seawards; and he beheld his ship coming with the mist.
"Then the gates of his heart were flung open, and his joy flew far over the sea. And he closed his eyes and prayed in the silences of his soul."

How do you feel like? This is the starting lines where the prophet Al mustafa is on voyage to life unto death, he preaches his long verse of experiences to hos people who are with him since his birth and now they are bidding goodbye to him on his return to his homeland of birth. Is he returning to the lap of the eternal Mother or to the basking glory of God? What is to be seen and believed is his phenomenal knowledge he has gathered in his deep and involved association with life, a few nuggets of pearl of knowledge about deep feelings that associated with his ephemeral stay in this fleeting world.

Let There Be Hunger
Saturday. 11.22.08 7:29 am
If there is hunger
There will be no loaves of bread, no poverty
There will be love, only love
There will be you and all, everyone else
There will be everyone else hungry
There will be you free, free from fear
Free from fear of freedom, you will be free of God
And you will be crying for the dying moon
The dying moon will be shining high in hunger of passion

When you will be one and all
There will be uprising of the hungry souls
No one else will ever be dying of violence of the breath
There will be peace of mind, no more sufferings
There will be no more violence of the surpassing pains
There will be hunger for all in no more loss in no more gains
And no one will ever be hungry dying of more hunger

Let there be hunger
You will be hungry of no food, hungry of passion
All hungry souls will be out of breath
Out of breath of passion, passion dying for life and death
Life will be as good as death, death will be as good as passion
Hunger will be life for death, a way ending in mission.

Fighting For Rain
Friday. 11.21.08 11:16 am
Fighting for rain
To sink in flames memories
Of antediluvian age
You wait in no mood of reason
In uprooted ruins yet to be excavated
Once in a while where there is no season
To bleach the face of discreet souls
And as you see no reason
To camouflage your hidden desire
At the heavenward escape of no eternity
I keep coming all the more lethally
With the warmth of the solar wind blues
And the extinct bones break apart
With your little round face

Your little round face
Stll fighting for the rain
To sprinkle shower of raining semen
In the holy grail
With the sacred testament you blow up in orgasm
To see no reason of my coming to foreplay
As if to hide your shame in the treasuretrove
Of your unholy desires.

Nothing In Disguise
Thursday. 11.20.08 11:16 am
Why do you smoke
Like in flames of fireflies
You don't know
What could be the reason
Can't you see me
Coming over your face
I don't know for sure
What could be
The only way to bleed
Dry by drought
The only way to crackle
Fire extinguished
Drop by drop
To seek your footfaults
When you can't see
Me coming over your face
Where the brittle trees crumble
In bleached sunshine
Where the dust no longer settles
As I see myself
In your overgrowing face

But you can't see me
Like coming over your gloomy face
As I see myself overgrowing
For nothing in disguise.

A Short Note On Sustainable Ecology
Wednesday. 11.19.08 1:05 pm
The devastation of our planet has happened at such a pace that we have failed to keep pace with the changing way of disaster. It has now reached a boiling point at which it threatens the future of humanity and its living conditions. The measure taken so far is less than adequate.

The economists proceed to fight shy of taking the ecological costs to account and the environmental problems rarely get the public hearing. This is not beating about the bush. To maintain sustainable development, just not development for development's sake we have got to undertake a thorough analysis and investigation into the global ecological crises that lie in the inherently destructive nature of our economic system.

That points finger not at the marginal adjustmentsat but at the urgently needed basic structural changes of our economic and productive system. The frightening reality of the global ecological catastrophe and the hamhanded responses from the respective governments have imposed on us this responsibility to be meted out on a war footing. There is a direct interconnection between the ecological vulnerability of this planet and the world economic system directly mainly towards the ends of private profit. Until and unless this changes for the better, there is no hope for sustainable ecology.
