The Nomads' Familiar Quotations
"Like today when I said we can have our lunch on the rocks instead of we can have our rocks on the lunch."
-Amanda

Amy: "Maybe they were in love."
Melissa: "They're both males!"
Amy: "So your fish are gay."

"He called and I was thinking, pizza... pizza..."
-Anne

Amy: "You're going to find God this weekend."
Patti: "Where?"
Amy: "Search."
Amanda: "You weren't supposed to tell her like that!"
Amy: "I thought I'd just get it over with."

"Amanda, do you question my ability to be really irritating?"
-Patti

"And it just makes sense, 'cause he has a slingshot."
-Patti

"What is with the smelling? I hate the smelling!"
-Diane

"They have me working courtesy. Do you know what you have to do at courtesy? Be nice to stupid people!"
-Patti

"Ohhh, to be young again."
-Amanda

"It doesn't matter what the real world is like because that's not where she lives."
-Amy

Patti: "So if I go to the ghetto and ask for a cheese burger, will I get inappropriate substances?"
Amanda: "Hopefully."

"The college bowl... the college bowl... what am I saying? The sugar bowl... the orange bowl!"
-Amanda

"Borth!"
-Amanda

"Look, they're shaving the parking lot."
-Amanda

"If you always assume people are dying, you'll live a lad lad... what?"
-Amanda

"Any time I want to twitch I should put on my cold hair and my t-shirt."
-Amanda

"Ooo, look at me, I'm a duck!"
-Patti

"You know your life is too complicated when there's a dead plant in your dorm room for over a week."
-Amanda

"I couldn't watch my soap operas because the war was on!"
-Anne

"We could go shopping at Viewmont, that's sort of like New York."
-Amanda

"I did come down here just to talk about naked people."
-Amanda

"Come visit me in the hall of doom. Oops, I mean dining."
-Patti

"Damn all you second hand smokers!"
-Patti

"I'm going to Hell. Oh wait, I mean jail."
-Patti

"No, I seriously have a pain in my ass."
-Melissa

"Don't you hate it when you vacuum your hair, and then you realize after... did I say vacuum?"
-Amanda

"I just hit your boob!"
-Diane

"It's not like there's a degayifier gun."
-Patti

"I can't believe I told her that her roommate is a lesbian but she's not!"
-Amanda

"He drove two hours and you played Uno?!?"
-Patti

"Okay, big wang, it's worth half a point."
-Melissa
summertime blues
Saturday. 5.24.08 9:58 pm
Last night I was at Shawn's and we went out to dinner. He knew a waitress and another couple that came in to eat. We went to a movie and he knew a bunch of people at the theater. Today we went to his friend's graduation party, and on the way home he was waving to people he knew on the sidewalk. He says hi to random people who pass by all the time only they're not random because he knows someone everywhere he goes. I realize that this is totally normal, but it makes it even weirder for me to get home and not know anybody. I haven't actually lived in my hometown for like six years, and now I'm here, and it's weird. I don't have any friends. I mean, I have old friends from high school who still live here, but most of them have lived here the entire time and are super tight with each other and I'm so out of the circle. My friend Heather had a graduation party thing and I didn't even know until someone else in a similar situation to mine was complaining that she wasn't invited. Apparently I wasn't either.

Things are weird with most of my college friends lately too. They're all like, married or engaged and have long term jobs and long term homes and all that adult crap that I probably won't get around to until I'm at least 30. Anne and I have been trying to get everyone together before I leave for the Peace Corps and they keep flaking out and saying how horribly horribly busy they are and then they post pictures on Myspace of all the fun stuff they've somehow miraculously found time to do on the weekends. I really think they just don't want to drive an hour and a half to Anne's house or pry themselves away from their extremely significant others for a full 24 hours. At least Anne and I still act our age!

shoes

I'm trying to find vegan hiking shoes that aren't ugly and that don't cost an arm and a leg. It's kind of hard. Are there any other thrifty vegan shoe fans out there with a favorite retailer you can recommend to me?

and again

Hey, I graduated again. Life after grad school is pretty good. Definitely better than life in grad school. Holy crap, I hated Mansfield.

I got a cool summer job working as the business manager at Boy Scout camp. Shawn hired me. We're probably gonna have so much fun we won't know what to do with it all. He's gonna be such a kickass camp director. I don't know how I'll be as a business manager because I'm not exactly sure what all it entails. Maybe I should read the job description.

The Peace Corps nominated me for an assignment. If I get it, I guess I'm leaving in September. It's university English teaching in Eastern Europe. I can't imagine getting a better assignment, so I really hope I get this one.

rumors
Thursday. 2.7.08 1:37 pm
I've been dating a co-worker.

This is definitely the sort of thing that everyone in Residence Life at Mansfield University loves to speculate on and gossip about. Well, there's not really anything that isn't that sort of thing, but anyway...

I'm not the type of person to play into rumors and gossip about anyone else and especially not about myself. I keep most of my life extremely private, but if there's something you want to know, you can ask me and I'll probably give you a very straightforward and honest answer. So to everyone who's asked so far, I've said yes, Shawn and I are dating.

If they know exactly what's going on, there's nothing to speculate on, and there's no need for it to become a rumor. Right?

Apparently not. I got an e-mail from another co-worker this morning saying there are rumors floating around already. I can't even begin to imagine what anyone could possibly have come up with.

It seems like everything is coming together.

I've been concerned about what I was going to do with the two unconsolidated guys on the fourth floor who wouldn't get along as roommates, and with a new sorority sister who wants to move to five, and I found perfect solutions for all of them today. Now if I can just get them to actually do it...

My Peace Corps application is done for now. Next is the interview. I can't wait. :)

Shawn shaved his beard for me. That's more significant than it sounds. He's gotta be crazy about me.

back in the day
Monday. 1.28.08 4:44 pm
I was just reading my old entries and thinking it was kind of fun to have something to say every day, even if it was just a silly sentence or two. It gives me something funny to read later, anyway.

Today Shawn spent almost all of my office hours with me and I didn't get anything done except for hitting him with a ball a few times (and getting hit a few more times). I like him. A lot.
