A Los Angeles Superior Court judge granted prosecutors' requests Friday afternoon to sentence Hilton to 45 days in county jail for violating the probation terms of her January conviction for alcohol-related reckless driving. She will start her sentence June 5. “[T]oday’s ruling sends a clear message that in the city of Los Angeles no one is above the law,” said Nick Velasquez of the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office. Hilton's attorney, Howard Weitzman, told reporters he was "shocked and disappointed" by the sentence. "To sentence Paris Hilton to jail is uncalled for, inappropriate and ludicrous," Weitzman said. "She was singled out for who she is. She's been selectively targeted. Paris was honest in her testimony. We plan to appeal. Shame on the system." Though Hilton's lawyers can appeal the ruling, the City Attorney's Office Press Deputy Frank Mateljan told Us: "She would need to show the court abused its discretion. We proved our case above and beyond what is required. We are extremely confident it will hold up in any court as it did today." Hilton, 26, arrived to court ten minutes late for the hearing in the back of a black Cadillac Escalade with her parents, Rick and Kathy Hilton. Dressed in black pants, a white shirt and a gray jacket, her hair held back in a headband, Hilton appeared serious and said nothing to the paparazzi lining the path to the court entrance. Prosecutors had filed papers on Thursday seeking 45 days of jail time for Hilton, along with a four-month extension to her license suspension, and 90 days of monitoring the heiress' alcohol consumption. Hilton's trouble began in September 2006 when she was pulled over and arrested in Hollywood for alcohol-related reckless driving. In January, she was fined $1,500 and sentenced to 36 months probation for the offense. That same month, she was pulled over again and busted for driving with a suspended license. Claiming to be ignorant of the suspension, police let Paris go. But on February 27, she was nabbed for speeding and driving without her headlights. This time, Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies charged Hilton with violating her probation. In their court filing, prosecutors said of Hilton's behavior: "These violations demonstrate Hilton's disregard for the vehicle laws of this state as well as for the conditions of her probation. This court should...include imprisonment as a condition of reinstating her probation." Prior to being handed down her sentence, Hilton was allowed to approach the bench, where she told presiding judge Michael T. Sauer, “I follow the law. I respect law. I know the laws. And I just want to say I am sorry. I did not do it purposely at all.” Paris pal Kim Kardashian tells Us: "I feel so awful for her. She's in my prayers." click here to see the official court documents: http://www.usmagazine.com/paris_papers Comment! (3) | Recommend! Paris: Cops Pull Me Over to Hit On Me 5/9/07 12:52 AM Childhood friends Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie will have to say goodbye in June when Paris, 26, is due to begin her 45 day stint in jail for violating her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. But, for now, the Simple Life costars are together on the cover of the June Harper’s Bazaar. In a joint interview with the mag, the fellow lawbreakers (Richie, 25, was arrested for a DUI last December after she was seen driving the wrong way down a freeway off ramp) talk about their life, their breakup, and their rap sheets. PARIS: On getting in trouble with the law: “I think I get in more trouble just because of who I am. The cops do it all the time. They’ll just pull me over to hit on me. It’s really annoying. They’re like, ‘What’s your phone number? Want to go to dinner?’ They won’t even give me a ticket. They just pull me over, and the paparazzi, of course, take a picture. All the time. I have so many cops’ business cards.” On going out: “I don’t really go out as much anymore. If I do go out, I go out at like 11 and stay till 12. If it’s the weekend, I have parties at my house, because only cheese balls go out on the weekend.” On what people think of her: “It’s weird sometimes. I think people think I’m not human. They feel like they know me from seeing me in all those things, and they come up with their own explanation of what they think I am. They say, ‘She doesn’t work.’ I work! Every single day, I’m traveling around the world. I wouldn’t have been able to do this, without working. It’s just annoying to me that people think things like that.” On how many pictures she has of herself: “A lot, It’s just for fun. I’m looking for another house right now, in Malibu, and another in Bel Air. I’m going to keep this house as my office, or a party place, or whatever. In my new house, I will not have pictures of myself everywhere. It will be my more mature home.” On aspiring to be like Martha Stewart: “Maybe when I’m old.” On falling out with Nicole in 2004: “There was no reason why we were fighting; it was just silly. We believed what other people were saying. People are really two faced in this town, and they were trying to play us against each other. It made me sadder than any breakup with a boyfriend. It was just like the worst feeling ever.” I think its good that she is going to jail just for a little while at least till she calms her ways.
