Heroes Episode Guide - Episode VI - Better Halves
Monday, January 8, 2007

The following entry is a synopsis of the sixth episode of Heroes, taken from Wikipedia.org. Many spoilers contained within.

Season - 1
Episode - 6

Writers - Natalie Chaidez
Director - Greg Beeman

Original Airdate - October 30, 2006.

After Peter finishes Isaac's painting and tells him about Future Hiro's message, "Save the cheerleader. Save the world," Isaac receives another confusing call from Hiro. However, this time Peter is there to pick up the phone, and he reveals his encounter with Future Hiro to Hiro and Ando. Peter then tells them to get to New York, so that they can figure out what to do next. After the call ends, Peter and Isaac attempt to determine where the cheerleader is located by looking at Isaac's paintings, but Isaac reveals that Simone has taken one of the paintings to be sold.

As Hiro and Ando prepare to embark on their heroic journey from Las Vegas to New York, they are stopped by the high-roller they cheated earlier. He offers them a deal they can't refuse: to help him win a high-stakes poker game. During the game, Ando discovers that one of the card players has a gun under the table. After bringing Hiro into a bathroom to discuss their plan of escape, they hear one of the gamblers yell, "Who invited her?", followed by sounds of violence and commotion in the room outside. Hiro attempts to stop time but is not able to. The distraught pair escape through a back entrance and return to their car. Hiro struggles with his lack of bravery while Ando suggests that maybe in the future he can travel back in time and "make it right." Somewhat cheered up, Hiro gets into the car with Ando and the two begin their trip to New York.

Meanwhile, Mohinder tells Eden about his encounter with Peter. After hearing Peter's unbelievable stories about a heroin addict who can tell the future and a time traveller who warns him to "save the cheerleader," a skeptical Mohinder has decided to give up his investigation into his father's death. He bids farewell to Eden, who kisses him before he heads back to India to bury his father. Eden refuses to say "good-bye," believing that Mohinder will soon return.

In Odessa, Texas, Mr. Bennet sets up a meeting between his daughter, Claire, and her biological parents. During the meeting, her "bio-parents" reveal that her biological mother did not want to keep the baby and that there is a medical history of diabetes and cancer in her biological parents' families. However, Claire is disappointed that nothing they say gives her any additional information regarding her healing abilities.

When Mr. Bennet excuses himself from the meeting between Claire and her biological parents, he receives a call from Eden in New York, who relays all the information she learned from Mohinder about other characters' special abilities and Future Hiro's message to "save the cheerleader." Mr. Bennet tells her to prevent Mohinder from leaving for India and to bring in Isaac, whom she describes as a "precog." After finishing the call, Mr. Bennet walks Claire's biological parents to their car and thanks them, stating that he doesn't think their services will be required anymore. But while cleaning up after the meeting, Sandra Bennet tells Claire how surprised she was that Mr. Bennet had found her biological parents, since when Claire was first adopted, the Bennets had frantically tried to find Claire's biological parents to no avail due to an unspecified genetic defect.

Back in Las Vegas, D.L. Hawkins unexpectedly shows up at Niki's home, where the two reconcile. However, Niki has a conversation with her alter ego, who claims responsibility for stealing two million dollars from Mr. Linderman, framing Hawkins for the theft, and killing his crew, both the men in Niki's garage, and the men gambling with Hiro and Ando. During that time, Micah informs his father about his mother's secret. Niki's other self then convinces a distraught Niki to take the money and leave with their son, Micah. However, as the "real" Niki obtains the money hidden in her home, she is discovered by Hawkins, who immediately realizes her betrayal. When Hawkins threatens to take both Micah and the money, Niki's alter-ego gains possession of her and begins fighting with D.L. During the battle, Niki demonstrates her ability to send D.L. flying through the air with a single punch, and D.L. reveals his own ability to phase parts of his body so that it can pass through solid objects. He reaches through Niki's abdomen to choke her just as Micah runs into the room to witness the battle. Niki collapses, and D.L. picks up a crying Micah and runs from the room.

The show ends with Eden visiting Isaac Mendez.

EPISODE VI TRIVIA -

* D.L and Micah are looking at comic books at the kitchen table, one of which is a copy of Tales From Space. This is the same comic as the one held by Sherman Peabody, the farmer's son in Back to the Future who mistakes the DeLorean for a spaceship, when Marty first arrives in 1955.
* When D.L. reveals to Micah that he has a "secret", the child asks if it's like Superman. Leonard Roberts (D.L.) twice appeared on Smallville, a series about the young Superman.
* A copy of issue #1 of the comic series Wasteland can be seen on the desk in Micah's bedroom.

Heroes Episode Guide - Episode V - Hiros.
Monday, January 8, 2007

The following entry is a synopsis of the fifth episode of Heroes, taken from Wikipedia.org. Many spoilers contained within.

Season - 1
Episode - 5

Writer - Michael Green
Director - Paul Shapiro

Original Airdate - October 23, 2006.

SYNOPSIS - With time apparently stopped, Peter encounters Hiro on a New York subway train. Hiro claims to be from the future and instructs Peter to seek out Isaac, indicating that Isaac's paintings hold the key to preventing the destruction of the city. He also gives Peter one final message: "Save the cheerleader, save the world." After this encounter, Peter is unable to convince the skeptical Mohinder to return to Isaac's apartment. Mohinder has instead decided to return to India to lay both his father's remains and his research to rest.

Meanwhile, Matt wakes up on his own couch, with no apparent memory of his abduction. He proceeds to use his mind-reading powers to attempt a reconciliation with his wife. After he romances her by fulfilling her wishes as soon as she thinks of them, they make love. Later, Matt goes to a nearby convenience store to buy her some ice cream, but uses his powers to talk down a would-be robber. He picks up the robber's discarded gun, frightening the other customers, despite him saying that he's a cop. Their franctic thoughts bombard him until he blacks.

In Las Vegas, Nathan Petrelli is being abducted by Mr. Bennet and his associate, but he escapes by flying into the sky. Nathan meets up with Hiro at a diner, the latter having been abandoned by Ando after a disagreement. Hiro, who witnesses Nathan's landing, attempts to befriend him. Nathan gives Hiro a car ride back to Vegas. Hiro returns to the rental car but cannot continue on his trip because he doesn't know how to drive.

Hospitalized after her intentional car crash, Claire confides to her father that she and other girls were attacked by Brody, and confesses that she intentionally drove the car into a wall to injure Brody. Mr. Bennet then visits Brody's room with his associate, whom he instructs to remove Brody's memory. Later, as Claire is being discharged from the hospital, she visits Brody and apologizes; however, Brody has no memories of Claire, the accident, or even his own name.

In New York, Peter examines the paintings at Isaac's studio and realizes that the paintings are telling a story, with a final incomplete picture depicting a shadowy figure. Peter asks Isaac to finish the portrait; however, Isaac is unable to do so without heroin. Peter then completes Isaac's painting with the vision he sees. The finished painting shows a cheerleader lying in a pool of blood. A reunited Hiro and Ando are finally able to reach Issac's studio by phone, where Peter has a message for them.

Niki is still confused about losing another block of time, particularly since it appears she spent that time in bed with Nathan, an event that was taped by Mr. Linderman for use as possible future leverage against the would-be congressman. On her way out of the hotel, she encounters Nathan and reveals to him the blackmail scheme. Nathan, however, uses this to his advantage, reasoning that Linderman really wants Nathan to win if he was willing to set up such elaborate entrapment. Niki returns home to find the police on her doorstep, searching for her fugitive husband, D.L. Hawkins. Instead, Ando shows up but finds that the real Niki is not as forthcoming as her Internet fantasy version. D.L. appears in the closing scenes of the episode, having stealthily entered Nikki's home.

EPISODE V TRIVIA -

* When parting ways from Nathan, Hiro tells him "up, up and away." This is a phrase that was popularized by Superman whenever he would take flight.

* When Hiro addresses Nathan, he calls him "Petrelli nii-san" which is Japanese for "big brother Petrelli".
