I was absolutely shocked at dinner tonight. Mike and I had dinner reservations at the main lodge. We arrived 30 minutes late due to the fact that we “misplaced” the only key to our cabin. Let me tell you frantically searching the cabin inside and out, the car, and for good measure the hot tub did nothing for my marriage. Mike was convinced that I was the only one who touched the key so therefore I must have been the one who lost the key. (I really hate his logic sometimes!) We finally found the key in the pocket of my bathrobe (I am sure he planted it there.) Anyway, we walked up to the main lodge expected a 4 star dinner. Manka’s is quite known for their dinner menu. We sat down and the waitress handed us a short list of specials, at least I thought they had to be the specials. This couldn’t be it. But alas, it was it. On the menu were foie gras, salmon, duck, and lamb. This was preceded by beet soup and followed by figs as the final course. We left the restaurant without dinner and made our way to a local seafood dive for some simple, fried food. Hey, at least the fries were French!

Manka’s Lodge is the greatest find of all times. If I ever run a lodge, this is what I would want it to look like. The main lodge and all the cabins are very rustic with wood and plaid everywhere. We are staying in the Fishing Cabin. There are no phones, televisions, or computers. I didn’t care much as the prime attraction of the cabin was a large, wooden hot tub conveniently located on the porch outside.

I don’t think there are any good places to stay between Seattle and California. After 6 hours of driving Mike and I decided to stop for the night in southern Oregon. Medford to be precise. This is second time we have stayed in Medford and both times it has been a disappointment. If anyone knows a good place to stay in southern Oregon, please let me know.
