BELIEVE...

Soooo, let's see, not too much has gone on recently, but I'll re-cap the past few days for you anyway. Friday was a pretty good day; had a nice time relaxin, goin to the mall, etc. Saturday pretty much followed suit as well. Sunday was such a seemingly long day. The wait in line for Michelle Branch/Pat McGee band tickets was long, but we got some pretty good seats. Then, we waited forever for lunch at Perkins. Heh, I tried doing some homework after that, but I ended up watching the Giants game instead (couldn't help it, the damn play I had to read for class was boring as hell). Overall, definitely good times. That's how things have been lately, of which I am definitely a big fan.

Schoolwork sucks balls. Since we're paying for everything under the sun, I think we should decide whether or not we actually have to do papers and work and whatnot. I'd much rather just go and listen and even read some stuff, but beyond that, I dunno. Paying attention should be good enough--I still learn.

Larry is a tool. I told him the other day that I pre-ordered Dave Matthews's Some Devil and that it should be on its way to the house sometime soon. He IMed me while I was away yesterday, saying "The new DMB CD came today!!". He was all excited about it, and was asking me if he could open it when it came, if he could copy it, etc. Silly old man.

I'm excited about Sunday. I'm going to my brother James's wedding reception. It's gonna be so cool. How many wedding receptions do you know of that have 3 live bands playing? Not like Lawrence Welk, cheesy cover band, or typical wedding band shit, but 3 actual rock bands. I forget the 3rd band, but the other 2 are Running from Dharma (a local PA band) and Gist (in which James used to play). It should be pretty sweet.

Well, that should do it for an update.

Kronos Quartet...
Thursday. 9.18.03 11:51 pm
I think my mind has been forever changed thanks to tonight's performance. I don't know how to describe it, other than by saying it was simultaneously the weirdest, most unique, yet most beautiful performance I have ever seen. My perception on the limits of technique has definitely changed--there are no limits. I heard sounds that I would never imagine coming from classical stringed instruments. The strings growled, sang, screamed; each emotional sound produced as fluidly as the next. For me, the latter end of the performance was the most compelling. The last two songs of their set were simply amazing. "Children's Hour of Dream" was so powerful, and their arrangement of Sigur Ros's "Flugufrelsarinn" was almost surreal. Best of all, thanks to our thunderous applause, they came back out for an encore. I got goosebumps and chills down my spine when they played "Lux Aeterna" from the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack. They played another song next, then ended with the most unique version of "The Star Spangled Banner" I have ever heard. Just imagine this: Heavy Metal distortion applied to 2 violins, a viola, and a cello. That performance was simply stunning. It definitely made a huge impact on me.

"Jungle Love, O-wee-o-wee-o"...
Wednesday. 9.17.03 8:35 pm
Alright, since I'm not motivated enough to get crackin on my written theory homework, I figured I could update this jigger in the meantime.

Random indeed, but, I've been rather happy the past couple of days. It's nice to feel good and be happy, I'm all about it.

I get to hang out with my mom again tomorrow. I know you're jealous, my mom rocks. She's pickin me up to take me to my dentist appointment right ater class tomorrow morning. I'll hang around and probably take her out to lunch before comin back to campus. It was cool to go home for a bit on Sunday. My mom was pleased to have a surprise visit from her two favorite college kids Definitely had a good time that day, and got my laundry done--can't go wrong.

I'm very excited about seeing the Kronos Quartet tomorrow night. I'm supposed to have pit orchestra rehearsal for the fall musical/play, but I got my ticket for Kronos long before I joined that group. Plus, it's not like I won't be able to learn and play my parts. I plan on stickin around after the concert and open forum session to, perhaps, meet them and get some autographs. That would be pretty sweet.

Ok, let's see how this whole doing homework thing goes. Wish me luck.

"Eat, drink, and be merry"
Sunday. 9.14.03 1:25 am
Ok, so I suck at updating this thing, but I'll give a shot at writing something. The Dave concert on Thursday was simply amazing--I don't know how else to describe it. Rory and I had seats up in the bleachers on the right side of the stadium, but as we were walking across the middle, we decided just to stay down in the open floor section. That was definitely a good choice we made. I don't think the concert would have been remotely as awesome were we relatively cooped up in the stands. Of course the music was amazing, and the energy was just awesome--so awesome that most of the time I was dancing. The definite highlight of the show was "All Along the Watchtower". I swear, not a single person was not up and dancing to that song. The energy of both the music and everyone there really was awe inspiring. I definitely have to say that this concert was definitely the best concert experience out of the shows I have been to. Another good aspect was that we didn't really get lost--we just got off of 83 too soon. But, since I lived in Camp Hill for a decent chunk of time, I knew my way around the greater Harrisburg area.

Eh, that's all I feel like writing.

Sweet mother of mystery. What's going on?
Wednesday. 9.10.03 10:40 am
I don't really have anything too exciting to say, but I thought I'd try and bee on top of things as far as updating this journal. It seems as though the ball is still rolling in favor of me adjusting and being happy here. I'm feeling better and better about being here, and I definitely like it. It's really nice to have my best friend back. Various factors contributed to us drifting apart, but it feels like we were able to come back and kinda pick up where we left off, almost as if we were never gone. You know I'm not always great at expressing how I feel, but I'm really glad to have such a friendship, not just here at school, but as a whole. It definitely means a lot to me, and I hope nothing gets in the way of that or ruins it.

Since the box office finally decided to not be GLAAD and actually be open this week, I'm finally gonna go and get tickets to see the Kronos Quartet. That should be a sweet concert. I'm hoping to stick around afterwards and perhaps meet them, get some autographs (on the poster I snagged from the campus center), etc. Also, as I said in the last entry, I'm so excited for Thursday! I think it is gonna be an awesome night, and we're gonna have a really good time.

Well, that seems good enough to me. I should probably get dressed or something, seeing as I have class in 25 minutes...
