.. On someone's blog

Photobucket

Is it a Chrome thing or what? Since all other Google-affliated websites all showed me the same verification page.

Currently, there's absolutely no one online and I'm facing the prospect of working three overtimed days to clear my workload in time for the chalet on Wed and the upcoming holiday season.

On the other hand, I do feel an urge to pick up driving after seeing so many of my friends drive all over the place over the past week though high COE prices ($64900 for 'Open' category vehicles - as of today) mean that practically none of us will be owning our own cars anytime soon. Well, there will always be exceptions no? Like someone who liked some purple car at Turf City back at the beginning of the year?

Also, I'm already itching to post something about NEX and 'kiasu' Singaporeans. -.-

December COG Photos
Sunday. 12.12.10 2:20 pm
Have nothing much to do now really.. Maybe wait for someone to finish packing room and start playing Wahjong on Viwawa. (Just maybe..)

CHANGE-OF-GUARD CEREMONY @ THE ISTANA, DECEMBER 2010

The last COG of the year is also one of the more popular ones as 1. The year-end school holidays are upon us; and 2. The holiday season's so tantalizingly close.. And many have already started their Christmas shopping sprees along Orchard Road.

And finally one last parting shot..

More photos can be found on Facebook.. Felt great to go down to support all my friends and colleagues even though I don't get a day off for participating. Its the least I can do since I've retired from like most parades already. Hm..

Making no effort to really hide it
Saturday. 12.11.10 9:19 am
Its not going to be subtle.

No one said it was going to be easy.
The day of reckoning has finally dawned.

Words simply cannot describe the emotions that are coursing through my veins right now succinctly as the clock ticks down.

Simply put it, it'll be a do-or-die thing.
I've got this feeling that my life and world view will be altered radically after tonight...

For better or worse? Its for God to know and for me to find out..

Wish me luck >.<

Not now..
Chance did me no favour..

Like A (Wilted) Rose
Wednesday. 12.8.10 11:09 pm
This week has been good so far (:

Went for this month's COG on Sunday - photos will be in a separate post. It's always great to meet people you know there, running down Orchard Road to get good photo-taking opportunities and so on. The camera ran out of memory while recording the SPDS performance though.. However due to the fact that there is no such thing as 'wide-angle lens' in my dictionary the videos practically useless anyway - except for Weimin.. For the camera happened to focus on him most of the time..

Half day off on Tuesday followed by alumni rehearsal in school.
The 7th Night of July!
Great memories of that piece.. It was the NY girls' favourite 'spammable' song of sorts eh Chai, Cyn, Judy? LOL!
And of course we played it for the year-end concert back in 2008.

Wow.. Its been two years since that epic-ly named concert that was memorably fraught with tension between the committees of both HS and College sides (with NY's a neutral party). ^^ How do you pronounce 'HCImpressione' again? And did that guy condescendingly call our band major the 'band dismissal girl'?

Anyway it was refreshing to meet so many peers and seniors (ok, even if only 2 came) after one year. I think a lot of HC people, me included, will bite at any opportunity to make music with each other once again. Don't think that will happen again though, unfortunately.. >.<

I've never had so many events lined up all in a row though. First up will be Friday's Bella Notte, then Saturday's NOEL, Wednesday's platoon getaway and finally Saturday's stayover to celebrate you-know-who's birthday(s). Throw in some comic convention this Sunday into the mix as well :D Don't think I'll want these two weeks to end even I yearn for next December to come ASAP. What irony..

And as I look into your eyes
I see an angel in disguise
Sent from God above for me to love
To hold and idolize

And as I hold your body near
I'll see this month through to a year
And then forever on till life is gone
I'll keep your loving near

And now I've finally found my way
To lead me down this lonely road
All I have to do is follow you
To lighten off my load

You treat me like a rose
You give me room to grow
You shone the light of love on me
And gave me air so I can breathe
You open doors that close
In a world where anything goes
You give me strength so I stand tall
Just like a rose

And when I feel like hope is gone
You give me strength to carry on
Each time I look at you there's something new
To keep our loving strong
I hear you whisper in my ear
All of the words I long to hear
Of how you'll always be here next to me
To wipe away my tears
...
And though the seasons change
Our love remains the same
You face the thunder
When the sunshine turns to rain
Just like a rose

Like a Rose - AI (1999)

Too idealistic for my own good? *Sighs*.
How far can the truth be from the optimism portrayed by the lyrics.

Guess I should take back the first sentence of this post.
It has been a rather horrible week in retrospect, really, at least emotionally

More like a wilted rose exposed mercilessly to the sun in the Sahel than anything else.

Hard Landings
Wednesday. 12.1.10 3:55 am
A revision to my Tweet - Joining 'Don't tell you' in the favourite three-word category now is 'See how lor".

I would be lying by the skin of my teeth if I said I never had any sleepless nights, suicidal tendencies, highly-charged conversations and mood swings et al. ALL because of you.. >.<

I had a dream last night
I didn't know which floor to get off on, heyyyeyy
The doors, they opened on 4 and 5 and 6
And you were gone, all gone

I didn't understand
I didn't wanna know
At least I took a chance
I had to let it go

Elevator goes up
Elevator come down
And you just go with the flow
Until your feet are back on the ground
It's an endless ride
Sometimes it takes you up
Sometimes it tears you down inside
But it's the butterflies
That keep you feeling so alive, so alive
You gotta get back that high

Elevator - David Archuleta
*****

Well it was just a dream, just a moment ago
I was up so high, looking down at the sky
Don't let me fall
I was shooting for stars, on a Saturday night
They say what goes up, must come down
But don't let me fall
Don't let me fall, don't let me fall

Don't Let Me Fall - B.O.B.

My mood now is officially zlitch after I managed to doze the whole night away and only wake up at 3am to a happily-sleeping world. -.-

It feels more like a massive dropped catch, that Sat night (its a cricket term btw..)

Anyways! Here's a massive massive shout-out to a few people..

AARON - HAHAHA. Nice try eh.. Hm by the way I have my own OA already. Try searching for me using Ctrl-K. Thank you

BERNICE - I had a niggling suspicion that it was you when I realised someone from Bristol'd visited this place (prior to the tag!). Thank you so much for your encouragement! Hope Law School's going well for you over at the other side of the world

And to the Dude Going to the Outskirts of KL.. Please take care of yourself and I wantdemand souvenirs! (Though I doubt you'll see this until after you're back..) Was kicking myself that I wasn't awake to send you off. My bad my bad..

JOS - Hello hello hello. Thursday is a special day indeed! :D BTW are you like going back for the pre-rehearsal sectional on the 2nd?

Work has been a bummer as I'm having to work overtime now to make up for the days I'll be on off and leave due to the concert. By the looks of it I will be working late after working hours later as well. A 'beginning-o-the-month' tread it has proven to be indeed.

My Case for Blogging
Sunday. 11.27.10 10:01 am
Alright, alright.. Partly egged on by Aaron's own take on this I've decided to like, give it a go.

Contrary to the case my Project Work team put out in our report, it's actually quite rare to see people my age blogging nowadays even though we are the supposed 'Net Generation', 'Gen Y who grew up in the noughties' and so on. Writing weblogs seem now to be something that only secondary school-going teenagers do. Before the advent of Facebook et al., It WAS a fad, and the chance to walk into the minds of stalk your friends seemed too good to miss out on.

So what are the critical motivations that combine to keep me plugging away at the keyboard relentlessly over the past 5 years (and counting)?

1. TO REALLY EXPRESS MYSELF AWAY FROM THE GLARE OF OTHERS

It's still quite amazing that not many of my friends know of the existence of this virtual outlet after a year or so.

This unique set of circumstances does happily present me chances to pass on messages to friends which otherwise I cannot bring myself to tell them personally - and yet seem incoherent or random to those not in the loop.

And to of course, share insights and photos that so many crave to see (:

2. FOR MEMORIES' SAKE, WHAT ELSE..

All the posts really bring back memories that will have otherwise been chucked aside in some forlorn corner of my conscience. I guess its sort of a time machine back to the past for me to go all emo over things once again.

It also reminds me time and time again what a useless git I am when it comes to something. The fact that I'd never succeeded in it even til today bugs me still. And yesterday's events did nothing to bring me closer to the end point - It in fact only served to bring the finishing line even further away.

3. IT'S A PERSONAL THING, DUDE

So that people whom I've met, past or present, can remember me by refreshing their jaded memories by going back to the period of time in which I interacted with them the most - and also for them to be able to follow me as I journey though the challenges and and reap the rewards that life have to offer.

And I don't really care who reads this now, less probably MSD and ISB? Since I don't post any confidential information up here it should be alright I guess.

Of course, it just does take only the briefest of sparks to get me going on.. and on.. and on about things. Almost all my friends have commented on the length of my posts at some point in time. I'm glad that my posts are as readable as they are long

So what is YOUR reason for blogging?

Bizarre Love Triangle
Friday. 11.19.10 6:47 pm
Had heard this over the radio quite a few times but was too lazy to check it out until yesterday. Apparently the song's awesome but the video left much to be desired. So instead the lyrics / song will have to suffice.

Every time I think of you
I get a shot right through
Into a bolt of blue
It's no problem of mine
But it's a problem I find
Living the life that I can't leave behind

There's no sense in telling me
The wisdom of a fool won't set you free
But that's the way that it goes
And it's what nobody knows
And every day my confusion grows

Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
I'm waiting for the final moment
You say the words that I can't say

I feel fine and I feel good
I feel like I never should
Whenever I get this way
I just don't know what to say
Why can't we be ourselves like we were yesterday

I'm not sure what this could mean
I don't think you're what you seem
I do admit to myself
That if I hurt someone else
Then I'll never see just what we're meant to be

Bizarre Love Triangle, Originally by The New Order in the 80s', but this version by Frente! in the 90s' sound nicer. More emotional I guess. That palpable sense of helplessness was just too overwhelming. Hm.

Just love the lyrics a lot though.
There's a reason why.. .. ..

Remembrance Sunday

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY @ KRANJI WAR MEMORIAL
14 November 2010

Photobucket

On the walls of this memorial are recorded the names of twenty-four thousand soldiers and airmen of many races united in service to the British crown who gave their lives in Malaya and neighbouring lands and seas and in the air over southern and eastern Asia and the Pacific but to whom the fortune of war denied the customary rites accorded to their comrades in death
THEY DIED FOR ALL FREE MEN

Photobucket

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

Photobucket

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Somehow the little petty issues in my life come up decidedly short against the grand struggle these brave men and women of an earlier era put up valiantly with. And for that, I salute thee.

War is indeed such a cruel affair - the result of political intrigue and masked ambitions played out in battlefields all over the world between people whom, if left in peace, actually have no issue with one another.

To all my friends, do cherish the fact that our generation actually got to grow up untroubled by the ravages of war that plagued our forefathers.

Our time here is indeed too short for us to get too bogged down by things which look oh so insignificant on hindsight.
