Those To Keep An Eye On... Grind Time and Willie The Kid
    Thursday. 9.14.06 9:53 pm
George Bush don’t like blacks? no shit, sherlock/And his daddy’s CIA flooded the hood with rocks/And his momma said the woman oughta feel at home\ getting raped in the bathroom in the Superdome/The comment Kanye made was damn near right/But Bush hate poor people be it black or white. -- Killer Mike from "That's Life">

    DAMN!!!!!

Yeah, Killer Mike is still on his grind, and the whole Grind Time formation is really taking flight, not only in the city but throughout the South. The Grind Time leap into prominence is happening as we speak.

It's been a long grind for Mike but it's common knowledge that Patience is a Virtue and Grind Time Rap Gang is one to keep an eye on. Hit the Grind Time myspace page to hear "That's It" in it's entirety as well as some other exclusives. (And yeah Mike, I see you kept that download button on a hush...You know Atlanta needs that. Put in the air pimpin, mixtapes or something?)

And another cat to really keep your eye on is Willie The Kid. DJ Drama has a serious gem in son, and the sky is the limit for him. He's something to deal with and with Drama pushing his muzik expect big things soon.

Check for that Dead Presidents mixtape featuring Willie The Kid and La The Darkman.

And just a little info to run with,Tyler Perry has opened up Tyler Perry Studios, a state of the art film studio here in Atlanta. He bought the property for $7million-plus and now Madea is making big moves with it.

Jay-Z On Comeback Album: "It's more in the vein of The Black Album than The Blueprint ..."
    Thursday. 9.14.06 10:07 pm

Thursday - September 14, 2006 by Jolene "foxxylady" Petipas
    Jay-z - EW

After months of being tightlipped about his comeback album, Jay-Z recently revealed details of his highly anticipated opus to Entertainment Weekly magazine for its latest issue.

In a candid interview, which was conducted just weeks ago in New York City, the Brooklyn bred rapper turned Def Jam President divulged to EW the album's contributors and discussed how he got back into recording.

"It wasn't like a defining moment" said Jay-Z about his decision to record the album titled Kingdom Come. "Something, when you love it, is always tugging at you and itching, and I was putting it off and putting it off. I started fumbling around to see if it felt good."

According to Jay (born Sean Carter), Kingdom Come will feature production from Timbaland , Kanye West , Dr. Dre , Coldplay front man Chris Martin and most likely Rick Rubin.

Possible features on the album include Eminem and Beyonce.

"It's more in the vein of The Black Album than The Blueprint ," explained Jay about Kingdom Come's sound . "I've been experimenting with things, different types of music."

Kingdom Come will mark Jay's first solo release since 2003's The Black Album. During his three year hiatus, he has made guest appearances on remixes with Kanye, Rick Ross and Young Jeezy as well as songs with Beyonce, Mary J Blige and Pharrell Williams among others.

"Clearly he is one of the biggest rap legends and the news of his return is huge, so we wanted him for the cover," Entertainment Weekly Senior Editor, Rob Brunner, told SOHH exclusively. "Luckily, he agreed, so it was a win-win for us both."

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly will be available on newsstands on Monday (September 18) while Jay-Z's Kingdom Come is reportedly slated for a November 14th release.

As SOHH previously reported, Hov is currently on a world tour and will be using his global trek to visit regions plagued with unsanitary water. MTV will document and broadcast his journey in November.

    Jim Jones

Jim Jones is scheduled to drop his latest album Hustler's P.O.M.E. on November 7th on Diplomat/Koch Records.

The CEO of Diplomat Records and Director of A&R at Warner Music Group is ready to step back into the limelight as an artist. This fall, Jones is poised to release the follow up to last year's album, Harlem: Diary of a Summer, which debuted in the #5 spot on Billboard's Hot 200 Chart.

The album features appearances by Rell, Juelz Santana, Lil' Wayne, Jha Jha, Max B, Cam'ron, Hell Rell and Stack Bundles. The first single off Hustler's P.O.M.E. is "We Fly High." P.O.M.E. is Jones' acronym for Product of My Environment.

"Biggie said along time ago,'More money, more problems,' and now I truly understand what he was talking about. I named the album Hustler's P.O.M.E. because it's just my definition of being a hustler. When you are coming up on the streets you got to hustle to survive or else you'll be left out in this cold world. That's all we got and that's what my music depicts. It depicts stories of everybody comin' up. Sometime it's hopeless, but you got to stay focused. I know we all got felonies and can't get no jobs, so we on the street corners doing the daily, and that's what we call hustlin'. Stay tuned for some powerful music," Jones said via statement.

While the video for "We Fly High" is already in rotation on BET, Jones will appear on "106th & Park" tomorrow, Friday, September 15th for its debut there.

Co-directed by Jones and Dale Restighini (RAGE) the video has been selected as MTV Jamz' "Jam of the Week" and MTV2's "Making The Video." "We Fly High" is scheduled to air the week of September 25th.

Jones has previously directed his videos for "Certified Gangsta" and "Crunk Muzik", Cam'ron's "Oh Boy", "Hey Ma" and "Get 'Em Girl/Killa Cam," State Property's "When You Hear That," several videos for Juelz Santana as well as his A Day in the Fastlife DVD which was released this June, among others.

Kelis Surprises Nas With Star-Studded Birthday Party
    Thursday. 9.14.06 10:37 pm
    By Houston Williams

"You are the last one [upholding Hip-Hop]," Dougie Fresh said prophetically to rapper Nas at a surprise birthday party last night in New York City's Canal Room. "We cancelled a [another] show to do this."

The rapper's wife, Kelis, planned and packed the Canal Room with a bevy of friends, fans, family and music industry insiders that partied to an old-school-themed evening of Hip-Hop.

Images of the Fat Boys, Eric B & Rakim, Michael Jackson and others lined the walls of the venue.

Dougie Fresh, along with partner-in-rhyme Slick Rick, headlined a star-studded party/performance event last night that celebrated the Queensbridge rapper's 33rd birthday.

The opinion of Fresh was echoed as many in the event sweated to the classic tunes of the 70's, 80's and 90's.

"I want yall to know, Nas got a very good heart and [is] very gifted," Dougie said towards the conclusion of an evening that carried into early morn.

Many of those that filled the Canal Room wore their old school paraphernalia like Cazals, fat laces, jean suits, gold "dookie" ropes and other items.

For others, accessories were given to them by Adidas, Kangol and faux gold bamboo earrings, which were popular with the b-girls of the 80's.

Those in attendance included DJ Premier, D-Nice, Grand Master Dee of Whodini, Kelis, Kanye West, Dana Dane, The Awesome Two, Questlove of The Roots, The Lox, Chill Will, the Bravehearts, Chamillionaire, Kwame, Jim Jones, DMC, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Nick Cannon, Floetry's Marcia Ambrosius and DJ Goldfinger on the turntables.

The event also attracted a number of non-musicians like basketball players Chris Webber and Carmelo Anthony, business mogul Steve Stoute, comic Tracy Morgan and host Katt "Money Mike" Williams.

In addition to the various appearances, Kelis arranged performances from rap icons like Bizzy Bee, Monie Love, Just Ice, Grand Master Melle Mel, Dana Dane and song diva Micki Howard, among others.

Surrounded by his crew, Nas reveled in the festive environment rapping the words of the songs and enjoying the performances of some his favorite childhood rappers.

Katt Williams and others such as Tracy Morgan provided creative banter throughout the evening.

"For my birthday party, I had Kriss Kross and Chuckii Booker," Williams joked. "Anybody worth being here is here. I could die right now, Jesus take me please."

Kelis may have topped her spouse's gift last month in terms of nostalgia.

Last month, Nas gathered about 100 of Kelis' friends and family to celebrate her 27th birthday in New York City.

He gave her a blue-grey GMC Denali with a vanity license plate that read "PWRMATRS2."

Young Jeezy Renames Clothing Line, Working On Album With Akon
    Thursday. 9.14.06 10:42 pm

Atlanta GA rapper Young Jeezy recently revealed that he had to rename his clothing line U.S.D.A. (United Streets and Dopeboys of America) to 8732, at the behest of the United States government.

According to Young Jeezy, the government of the United States prevented him from using the U.S.D.A. acronym, which also stands for the United States Department of Agriculture.

"The government won't let me [name the clothing line] U.S.D.A.," Young Jeezy told AllHipHop.com. "[So] what I did was, you know back in the day, you know had those little pagers? We would page people numbers for letters. 8732 is U.S.D.A."

The rapper's first foray into the clothing world was a success, when his frowning "snowman" promotional T-shirt-shirt became one of the most bootlegged T-shirts-shirts of 2005-2006.

The shirt was banned from numerous school systems because of its alleged drug references.

Young Jeezy said the new 8732 line will feature a variety of urban wear.

"The jackets, the f****ng sweat tops, the Bronze jeans," Young Jeezy said. "The jeans run anywhere from $120, tops at $120, but you know it's some nice s**t man. I mean its all snowman."

The 8732 clothing line is slated to hit stores in late November.

In related news, Young Jeezy and R&B singer Akon are working on an album together, following their successful single "Soul Survivor," one of the rapper's biggest hits from his album Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101.

"I wanted to do a different look, so [when] me and Kon, get together, we always come up with a smash sound," Young Jeezy said of the new album. "[We said] 'what if we took our time and our energy and took a couple of months to actually make an album?' You know Kon is so big overseas. People don't know that."

No release date was available for the album.

Young Jeezy has also partnered with Atlanta-based mobile company Hi-Fli Tones to be the face of the company's new promotional campaign.

DMX Calls Jay-Z A "Sucker For Love," Young Buck Comments On Cash Money Kiss, Pimp C Talks Ish About The East, Mos Def Vs Luda
    Saturday. 9.16.06 11:48 am

Friday - September 15, 2006 by Dick Johnson w/ additional reporting by Carl Chery
    DMX

In this week's Pulse Report, the streets are buzzing about DMX flip-flopping, Young Buck commenting on Cash Money's kissing, Mos Def beating Ludacris and Danger Mouse remixing Paris Hilton.

    1. DMX flips on sandals. Forget pink, real men don't wear sandals...according to DMX at least. Taking a page from his buddy Cam'Ron, X recently denounced Jay-Z's flip-flop penchant. "The flip-flops- he's just not the same," X told Vibe Magazine regarding Hov. "It's Beyonce. He's a sucker for love. Thugs don't do flip flops." Wanna how serious it is? "Yo, no matter how much vacation I'm on - we been to St. Thomas, Bahamas, all the little islands - I don't wear no flip-flops," he continued. "I'm never that comfortable, not even in my own house."

    2. Young Buck comments on Baby and Lil' Wayne kissing. In case you got distracted by claims that Gillie Da Kid wrote for Weezy, the Philly rapper also revealed that he witnessed Weezy kissing Baby while he ran with Cash Money Records. While he didn't get graphic, heads can take into consideration the two's father-son relationship and paint the picture themselves. During a recent appearance on DJ Kay Slay's "The Drama Hour" on Sirius Satellite Radio, Young Buck answered when asked if he ever witnessed dudes kissing around the Cash Money camp. "I seen that shit go. I ain't gon lie. Any nigga gon let you...that's some gay ass shit," Buck told Slay in disbelief. "At the end of the day, the shit went on. But I can co-sign my homeboy B.G., that's my motherfuckin homeboy. He ain't even play that shit. Juvey, he stay far from shit. Now, Lil' Wayne my nigga, but shit! And Turk, that's my nigga, he locked up in the pen, I hold him down, but shit. Motherfuckers was playing like that amongst each other on they bus and shit. But at the end of the day, to each his fucking own."

Earlier in the broadcast, Buck revealed that while Snap Music was cool, it wasn't for him. "It's different. I ain't got nothing bad to say about it. I can't rock with it, cause I ain't really the type of person that really can fuck with the whole dance," Buck explained. "Gangsta niggas don't do certain shit."

    3. Pimp C says hip-hop is alive and well. Well, by the looks of things the "hip-hop is dead" bandwagon is still cruising. Earlier this year, 50 Cent, Ghostface Killah and even Smoke of Field Mob hinted or blatantly targeted finger-snapping rappers for hip-hop's demise. But wait, tuh, tuh, tuh, tuhhhhh! Fresh from stinking up the "RapCity" booth, here comes Pimp, cape on his back, at the South and hip-hop's defense. But seriously, here's what he had to say. "Y'all stop cryin' mayne, on the east. Y'all been eating for years... We all got grillz in our mouth, now they want grillz in they mouth on the east," the legendary UGK member shared on 97.9 The Box. "I ain't trippin', do your thing. But, don't be crying that hip-hop's dead. If hip-hop's dead, it's y'all fault that hip-hop's dead. So, get your backpack, jump on the train and get your paying gig up and get in the know." Hummmmm! What ya'll think.

    4. Mos Def beats Luda. No, not in that way. Black Dante didn't swell Luda's lip. Neither did he school "The Mouth of the South" in a secret emcee battle. Nope! During a Q&A at the recent Billboard Music Conference, Luda revealed that the Brooklyn lyricist is the only actor ever to beat him out of an acting role. Yes, with a bit more luck Cris just may have starred alongside Bruce Willis in 16 Blocks. It's all good. Luda got other flicks in the works. But it's all about music these days. Luda merked the hell out of the "Cannon" freestyle and "Money Maker" is steaming up the radio charts. Always thinking ahead, Luda has unveiled the titled of his next album. "It's theater of the mind," Luda offered. "The way I rhyme I want you to visualize what I am talking about. It's like painting."

    5. Danger Mouse remixes Paris. First The Beatles, then MF Doom, later Gnarls Barkley and now Paris Hilton? Yep! Word is the production work horse has remixed Hilton's album in its entirety. Fear not backpackers, he's actually mocking her. Word is the insert features compromising...well, considering how Vivid Video-friendly Paris is, not so compromising photos. Actually, word is the sleeve features a photo of Paris with a dog's head. Anyway, though only 500 copies were meant to hit the streets, the Paris compilation is reportedly spreading like The Grey Album. Following the paths of legendary bootlegs like the R. Kelly tape, the Paris remix somehow landed on HMV's shelves.
