yay?
Sunday. 5.8.11 4:49 pm
On Wednesday I was doing the office grocery shopping (sounds lame, but is in fact a great excuse to get out of the office) and I decided to walk to the store since it was nice and warm outside and it's been wet and miserably cold for months. Stupid Portland.

So I was crossing a crosswalk and there was this guy in front of me that I wasnt really paying attention to and he all of a sudden turned around and said, Sorry Im all over the place, haha, you know, sorry about that, and I said, Oh no, youre fine, (not knowing what the hell he was even talking about) and he said, Well you know what though?! Things sure have gotten better since I started drinking again! And I said, Yayyyyyyyy... because I didn't know what else to say and I was caught off guard. And really, what the hell else are you supposed to say to a crazy man with tattoos on his face in a situation like that?

fun morning commute exchange (I made a woman cry)
Monday. 3.14.11 11:57 am
There was some event or something at the Rose Garden Arena this morning so the trains were PACKED. A super annoying woman was standing behind me being all perky and talking to people and trying to get them to sign some petition or something. She was dressed in black leggings and knee high hooker boots like some sort of Kardashian. She should not have been wearing that outfit. Once the car cleared out, she came and sat riiight in front of me.

Not five minutes after sitting down, she turns to me and says, Excuse me miss, I-

I dont want to sign anything.

Oh, um, okay well its just-

No. This is my morning commute. I dont want to talk to anyone or sign anything.

Um, okay I was just going to-

Youre still talking.

Youre rude.

I know.

Then she cried.

Then, when she got off at her stop she said, I hope someday you learn how to talk to people in life.

Oh, honey. I know how to talk to people. I just dont want to talk to you. And I know you think Im the rude one, but you shouldnt fucking ask people to sign shit when theyre enclosed in a tiny little box with you at 8:30 on Monday morning.

Good luck dealing with people just like me, ALL DAY.

um? update.
Friday. 3.4.11 7:34 pm
I feel like I should update, but nothing particularly interesting is happening with me right now.

My roommate is still annoying.
Edward is still far, far away.
My cat still sheds.
It's still raining non-stop in the Pacific Northwest.

OH. Wait.

I got hired on full time at work. I've been working here as an hourly worker since November, but was considered a temporary because of budgetary issues. HOWEVER. The big boss lady came for a business development trip last week and I worked my ass off trying to win her over and show her that I'm an asset not only to this office branch, but the company as a whole. Also, my boss here lurves me and she worked hard to show the management team that I need to be on board for future projects.

Anyhow, I guess it worked because as of March 1, 2011 I'm officially a salaried employee with fulllllllllll benefits. PAID VACATION WHAT IS UP.

Also, it looks like we'll be bringing in some truly interesting clients/projects so that's pretty exciting.

For those of you who may be interested, I work for a communications firm that provides neutral mediation, meeting facilitation, stakeholder engagement and community outreach. I'm project support. We mostly work on environmental issues. I wanna do more community outreach, it's what I enjoy. Fingers crossed.

Oh, I got a raise too. I feel like an adult, and finally feel like my college degree was worth the time and effort. And thank God for internships.

HEY EVERYONE IF YOU'RE IN COLLEGE GET AS MANY INTERNSHIPS AS YOU CAN BEFORE YOU'RE DONE. Find a way to get work in your field, take extra courses, attend training sessions. Do whatever it takes to build up your resume, because there aren't a lot of jobs, but there are a LOT of highly qualified job seekers out there. I was unemployed for eight months and it was not a happy time for me. Don't let it happen to you.

Writing this now, I realize I haven't truly celebrated my new job status so I guess maybe I'll be drinking champagne tonight. sup.

GLASSES WEARERS!
Wednesday. 2.23.11 7:29 pm
If you are a wearer of glasses and need new frames, please check out http://www.warbyparker.com. All of their glasses are flat rate 95 bucks (lenses included! free shipping!) and when you buy from them, they send a pair of glasses to a person in need.

And if you're a hipster, they have all the styles you love! I just purchased the Miles style in light tortoise, okay, so get jealous I guess (I don't know why you should be jealous, but).

AND! If you message me I have a coupon code for five bones off the price. I know that seems like a piddly amount of money compared to $95, but it can buy you lots of penny candy. So.

Also, they sell monocles. Prescription monocles. Be that person.

NEW HIPSTER GLASSES, SQUEE.

...can you still buy penny candy? Please tell me where.
