No more basic soldier
Saturday, March 4, 2006
yup, thats wad the oc said today, after we finally completed our grenade live range and bic in dreaded tekong.

anyway, the week itself, tho short, has been rather eventful. most memorable would have to be today's events and the 24km route march on thursday..many times during the march, i just felt like dying..but i nie nie tong..and when we finally got back to base camp..all of us really felt the sense of achievement. myself..i cant believe i actually did it..esp since route march has always been my weakest point. and well, most of us couldn't walk half properly after the march...i'm walking like a bloody bai ka myself, with 2 big blisters filled with erh..blood i think..on the front part of my right sole. fuck.

as for the grenade throw today..can only say shiok ar.. truly a once in a lifetime experience to throw a live grenade. even tho i nv did actually see the grenade explode(not allowed to look anyway), i was like "wow" when the sound and shockwave from the blast hit me. cool.

after the grenade was the battle inoculation course, or bic in short. fucking shag la, this one..esp when we had to do 2 times under the blistering hot sun, so hot tt the sand we crawled on was scorching. and we had to do it 2 times becoz the supervising officer, my company 2ic, said "its a rare opportunity tt we get to do sth so fun, so definitely muz do more than once." wtf...needless to say, everyone kenna abrasion all over. even my ass got it..sibei tia.

ttz abt all for the "happening" week, next week pop liao..finally!

I Made It
Sunday, February 26, 2006
whew, i made it..the cdo bmt tekong field camp. heh. 8 farking days of hell.

first of all, sry to my readers for the misinformation earlier on coz previous cdo field camps are always 2 weeks. but this time rd, due to asian aerospace, we shortened our tekong stay and came back to sg and had our 100m range during the last 2 days and today morn.

back to field camp. actually, it wasnt as bad as i tot it would be..at least nt fr all the horror stories i heard fr previous batches and frens. for one, we didn't do any digging at all, since cdo are nt required to. ttz a really big relief. and secondly..i didn't kenna attack by the supposedly division size mosquito and sandfly swarms in tekong. some others did kenna, but i damn heng did not..which kind of makes me think tt the saf insect repellent really works, since i was applying it religiously almost every nite before i slp.

and erh, after 8 days of nt bathing at all (veri digusting i noe, but no choice la)..i kind of can live with it la..haha..coz after the 4th day, it juz felt normal liao. but suay suay i had to kenna diarrhoea on the last 3 days of field camp...literally a pain in the ass..or shld i say the stomach. but thankfully it didn't jeopardize my bmt.

and the field camp also made me realize how ugly ppl can get when they are trying too hard to prove themselves. esp those ppl identified to be future leader course trainees..they were really over zealous during the field camp, so much so tt others get really turned off by their display of "garungness"

well, got back fr field camp on monday nite, slacked and did post outfield admin during the next 3 days before gg to nee soon camp for the range. can proudly declare myself a marksman, since i only missed one shot out of the entire 32 shots for the test. but then again, its only 100m, and so its nt much of a big deal. the next one would be 300m, the atp shoot after turning operational, but its still far off, so no need to think abt tt first.

for now, i'm left with the 24k next week and grenade and bic, which we are gg back to tekong to do next sat, and it means another weekend burned. fuck. after which, will be pop liao. haha, hope everything runs smoothly.

Shag La
Saturday, February 11, 2006
ok, the most significant event of the week would have to be the 16km route march on monday afternn..and the field training at mandai hill/ marsiling area on thursday.

route march first. finally i managed to do the 16km route march, coz during my previous bmt, the most i did was 12km, the 16km one i wasn't feeling well halfway thru and didn't complete. 24km i did marshalling coz by tt time i was ald ooc and also juz came back from att c at home. well, it wasn't too bad la, except tt the weather was damn fucking hot, and i led the cadence as song ic until i went totally hoarse..no issue there...provided tt the platoon sing along..which they didn't..make me and the other 2 back up song ic have to sing muz louder juz to cover for them..fuck..ksl shag.

by the time we returned to camp, the whole company was so tired tt we couldn't even march in step properly..so most of us juz struggled along.. end up got fucked left right centre by the oc and other instructors.. the situation was so much alike to my 12km route march last year which we fucked up tt i was beginning to think if the next day we would kenna tekan big time like wad happened last year..heng not.. coz oc apparently declared tuesday r n r day and we only had ifc lectures the whole day..but consequently, we had to fight the zz monster all day..also sian. hah.

thursday the whole company went out for field training at marsiling there..whole day, damn shag la, left at 6am, only got back at 10pm..den had to clean weapon and send arms...only got to slp at 0030. and i had to do guard duty on the previous night..coz i kenna 4 extra for smoking without permission..and they din even catch me in the act..i kenna coz i owned up in fear tt those who kenna caught would pao to me..kan. lesson learnt..i'm gg to stop smoking for good liao.

back to the field training bit..apparently its to prepare us for the tekong field camp next week, and..its damn horrible la..esp with the fucked up weather..whole day juz rain-stop-rain-stop..everyone got soaked..and tired, and hungry..fuck. lessons covered included shelter construction and trench digging, both of which were damn horrible..subaru guai guai kept fucking us coz we couldn't complete the task up to his damn high standards in time. late afternn we also did fighting fr temp positions..also veri tiring. all the crawling ard, proning and contact drills..knn..got cut by the rifle when i prone down, twice, nt to mention my knees and elbow hurt fr crawling and proning on the hard gravel..sian..

really..only one day i cannot stand it liao..i wonder how i gg to die when we go to tekong next week..2 fucking weeks..plus this kind of lousy weather..its gg to be the nightmare of nightmares. lately, i've been wondering wad the hell i'm doing back in cdo, esp when i hate this kind of life..and such things are a commando's rice bowl..nt tt i cant take it..juz tt i simply detest it. really.

so tired.

Ultimate Detachment Challenge
Saturday, February 4, 2006
simi si ultimate detachment challenge?..u might ask. its actually a race thought up by my company 2ic to assess the physical proficiency of cdo recruits after 4 weeks of bmt training. and it was done ytd. fr 1630 to 1930.

for this race, there were a total of 4 stations consisting of pt, soc, leopard crawl and finally route march. all are done in detachment levels of 10 men or so..which was also one of the aims~ to see how well we can work together with our own det mates. 3 teams are dispatched at each time to different stations, with 5 mins interval between each detail..upon completing all 3 stations, the final one would be the route march, which is 8k, 2 rounds in camp and one outside.

my team did the pt station first, which was 200 chin ups, 500 push ups and 500 sit ups, and only one person is allowed to do at one time, with an umpire for each team tagging along throughout the race to ensure no cheating. haha, think we actually did much more than the required for push up and sit up, coz we lost count and the umpire made us start fr a number of his choosing.

next we did the soc, by this time, we were quite shag ald, so we choose to do it slow. and anyway, there were still some guys who couldn't clear certain obstacles, so we were allowed to support and assist them.

by the time we were done with soc, we were damn shag, so we juz walked to the next one, a 50m leopard crawl with full pack on. this one, in our common opinion, was the most tiring of all, coz many of us dunno how to do leopard crawl, with only a brief demonstration during the previous night's briefing to serve as a guide..lagi worse with the umpire at the side barking at us all throughout. nevertheless, we still managed to complete it together as a team. hah, almost everyone had abrasions on their knees and elbows..sibei tia.

finally, the 8k route march, this one was quite alright, since we ald did it 2 times before. but the extra exhaustion factor was tt we had to run with our fbo like many times during the march to keep the distance on those behind trying to overtake us and also to catch up and overtake those teams in front of us. end up, we came in position 15. nt too good, but still, the impt thing is we managed to complete the whole race together as a team, helping and motivating one another along the way when it seemed some of us were gg to give up. as a result, our pc, the nv-smile-at-all subaru guai guai, actually smiled at us at the end and told us 'well done'. i think many of us were shocked to see him in this manner, hah.

all in all, it was a fun race, tho it was damn shag, but it helped us build team spirit and esprit-de-corps. however, i definitely dun wan to do it again.

Happy CNY 06
Saturday, January 28, 2006
happy chinese new year everyone. this year, unlike others, i experienced a mini celebration in camp for the first time. its nt veri much, but then..hahaha..its still an effort by the camp mgmt la..

started off ytd with soc training, full load, run down plus obstacles..but only need to do once..unless cmi, den stay back for rt. thankfully, i did alright with a timing of 8.41 and so got to go back and rest for quite a while before the next event.

the celebration itself was nth much, lion dance and cai qing followed by lao yu sheng and lunch..after tt go back for 3 hrs of area cleaning before booking out at 1600..supposedly..but the fucking bus company chu stunt again and most of us only got to book out near to 1700. wtf.

this week itself, training was quite relaxed actually..we only did 5bx 2 times, coz wed got ippt, thurs route march and ytd morn soc trial test. think the mgmt cut down on the physical part after all the platoons feedback in their aar tt its hectic and there's nt enuf recovery time between each pt session. most of the week was also spent on weapon tech handling and maintenance training..which to me, after 4 months as an armourer..is really no kick at all..close one eye also can pass the test..hahah.

nuff abt army..chinese new year is tmr..and this year, i dun expect much la, juz lots of ang pow, as usual. heh. once again. happy cny to all.

turned 21 ytd. heh. many tots running wild in my head, dunno how to express, so i shadn't.

had a simple dinner at cafe cartel plaza sing with a few good frens. many many thanks to my frens who could come down to celebrate with me. thanks esp to laoda who helped organise the whole thing and came down asap even tho he booked out only veri late in the evening.

thanks also to those of my frens who couldn't make it and yet still remembered and sent me well wishes. im touched. haha. finally, thanks to everyone who has stuck with me throughout the years even tho i have been an ass and idiot and still is many times over.

had wanted to give my tired body and legs a rest after all the punishment they took this whole week, esp my legs. but end up, walked a lot of yuan wang lu ard town to end up playing pool at pot black. nevertheless, its still fun. i shall make up for it by hibernating the rest of today.

feel quite weird tt we didnt go ktv ytd, since it has ald become sort of a norm to sing on bday celebrations. but nair mind, there's always another time. till the next time then.
