Monday. 6.6.11 10:14 pm
I had my first dentist appointment since the mid 90s earlier this morning and it sucked. Going to the dentist is never a fun experience. Unless your teeth and gums are in top condition and you only need to go in once a year to get your teeth made extra white again.

Today was supposed to be something quick; in and out with a few x-rays and a simple clean. Nothing major. Well, considering the fact that it's been about 16 years since my last dentist visit, I should have known better.

I ended up getting about 4 Novocain injections. Two in the upper part of the right side of my mouth and two in the lower part. I needed a deep clean, which required quite a bit more scraping and picking. The whole right side of my face was numb for a few hours. I hated it. And I get to go back in a month and do it all over again on the other side. That one is going to suck even more because the teeth on the left side of my mouth are a bit more messed up than the right. I'm not sure how much good the Novocain will do if there's any sign of tooth decay ... since that hits right on the nerve.

Once I get everything cleaned, I am going to try my best to actually floss {shivers} at least once a day. Something I have never done in my life. But if it'll prevent this deep cleaning experience from ever happening again, then so be it.

In other news, I tried to get my enhanced driver's license today. Key word there: tried. I didn't have the proper documentation to prove my residency. For whatever reason I couldn't find my electric bill from last month and the pay stub wasn't enough on it's own. So since I don't have anything else on the list of "you only need to bring one from this list," I am going to dig out my W-2, which is accepted along with the pay stub. It's rather annoying, but hey, it's a necessary evil. And it'll be cool once I get it because the enhanced driver's license works the same as a passport ... when it comes to Canada. And as long as I don't fly.

Anywho, my jaw is still in pain, but I'd rather feel the pain than not feel anything at all. If you've ever had dental work that required a numbing anesthetic, you'll understand how much it sucks not being able to move the muscles in your face. I really, really just want to eat something, though. But with the pain still there, I don't want to over do it.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to eat again. Perhaps not anything hot or solid or crunchy, but something is better than nothing.

I also have another appointment for my license on Monday. That should give me time to dig out the forms I need. And hey, maybe even allow me to search and find the electric bill that would be ever so convenient.

Until next time NuTang...

belated update
Thursday. 6.2.11 12:17 am
I just realized that I never updated on how my first day of training went.

It was so much fun! It is work, but it's fun work. I mean, yeah, there's a lot of poop. I mean a lot of it. Animals don't care where they do their business. But I'm so excited to be working with the animals.

The training was slightly different than what I was supposed to get because the actual trainer called off for the night so I ended up working with a senior volunteer. I got to follow her around and help out with work that I won't be doing on my own until I've been there for a while. So technically I did stuff that I wasn't supposed to since I haven't been there long enough. No one made any complaints, though. I would like to think they were happy for the extra pair of hands. Especially when it came to feeding/cleaning the baby raccoons. They're rambunctious little critters. And the older ones are loud. And messy. But still so cute.

So I learned how to handle a baby raccoon. I also learned how to catch a bird and hold it so that it could be given it's food/medication. The method is different depending on whether the bird is big or small. Something like a robin or sparrow can be caught and held with one hand. The larger birds, like a duck or a pigeon have to be held with two hands.

I didn't get to interact with any of the larger animals {ie, the black bears or the barn owls.} That is definitely something that requires lengthy training.

My first official day will be this coming Sunday. The shift I trained on will be my "permanent" shift.

I skipped out on my school orientation/registration today. After having only gotten two hours of sleep last night and working this morning, I was just too tired. I understand that I'll have to deal with a lower amount of sleep than I've been getting, but I can make a private appointment with a counselor and register that way. I've already got the paperwork that's required to bring to the meeting. I just have to call in the morning and schedule something hopefully for Friday morning before work. It's easier to get up early and do stuff before work than it is to change your whole schedule around. I already know what class I'm going to sign up for so hopefully it won't take too long.

Jacob is so sweet! He's also really awesome. First, the awesome part. He retook his placement test today hoping to score in to a higher math class. His goal was to score in the low range for 141. He ended up testing in the high range of 142! I'm so proud of him. Now the sweet part. He sent me a couple texts with coordinates/equations to graph on his graphing calculator and told me to graph them at the same time. Once I put in the coordinates and hit graph, it came up as a tiny, little heart. It was so sweet.

Anywho, I just wanted to talk about my Wildlife training. And figured I'd add in a couple extra things. Things are going well for the most part. I have absolutely no money right now so food isn't exactly an option right now, but hey, payday is Friday so after bills I might have enough left over for ramen noodles.

Until next time NuTang ...

Yeah, I'm eating tater tots right now. Be jealous.

I have my first training day for the Wildlife Rehab Center on Sunday evening. I'm really excited about it. I can't wait to get down and dirty, making sure I do my part in helping these animals become well enough to be wild again. I also can't wait to feel that feeling of great accomplishment when the animal that I helped rehabilitate gets released back in to the wild.

I've decided that once my one active credit card {I have two, but the other is canceled} is paid off, I'm going to use it to buy a new laptop. The one I have now is still good to me, but it's getting old and outdated and I can't do much more than use the interweb. I'm lucky that I can even stream videos on Hulu. I can't on Netflix. I have to use Jacob's computer for that. And when Jacob is downloading something on his computer? Forget it. That's when my computer starts to lag. It's rather annoying. My computer is also too old that it doesn't have the capacity for me to download Windows 7. If I upgraded to even Vista it would probably kill my computer. Oh well. In due time, I will have an awesome, new laptop. Until then, I just deal with using mine for basic stuff and using his for everything else. He'll be happy, too, when I get my new laptop because then I'll be able to play games with him. My computer can't handle basic games let alone the new ones he plays.

Anywho, I really only just wanted to let you all know I was eating tater tots and about my training on Sunday. The computer stuff was just an extra tidbit.

Until next time NuTang ...

why does there have to be a "weblog subject?"
Wednesday. 5.25.11 2:18 am
So I just watched Tangled for the first time. It was actually pretty funny. I absolutely love her pet cameleon. And the horse. What got me, though, was the intense familiarity of the main male character's voice. When the movie was over, of course, I had to look it up otherwise it would have driven me nuts. And who played the voice? Zachary Levi ! No wonder it sounded so familiar. I wonder if he did the singing parts too ...

In other news I had to cancel my most recent therapist appointment. Even though I'm billed for the services later on, I have to provide a copay up front. Which I didn't have. So it has to wait.

I also, finally, have my PAWS Wildlife interview on Friday morning. So that's exciting. I'm definitely looking forward to that. I do wish I could give more of my time to the animals, but I'm sure the little bit of volunteering that I'm able to do will pay off in the future.

It's always the little things that Jacob says that make me smile. Sometimes I don't think he even realizes that what he's saying means so much to me. Like yesterday. He was talking about making the decision between morning classes or evening classes and he said that he was going to go with evening classes because if he took morning classes, he'd never get to see me. It made me feel all fluffy inside; just knowing that he actually put thought in to whether he'd see me or not. I'm sure he thinks about it, but hearing him actually say something like that makes me feel good.

Anywho, I kind of lost my motivation for doing schoolwork especially considering I'm not in school yet. The motivation would be there if I had a deadline. And if not motivation, then, you know, I'd at least have enough determination to not fail.

Argh! The inside of my ear itches ... yes, that piece of information was necessary to share.

I kind of want to go to bed out of sheer boredom right now. I'm a little tired, but not really sleepy. Yet there's really nothing to do right now. So perhaps getting some extra sleep couldn't hurt. Not after the last two nights. I stayed up so long that I could barely keep my eyes open. And once I did finally lay down, I was out cold within a 5 minute time frame. Oddly enough, though, I only slept for four hours. I would wake up and be awake for an hour or so and then get really tired again. It was weird.

Okay, I'm done. This probably could get more random, but I don't feel like reaching that point.

Until next time NuTang . . .

idiot
Friday. 5.20.11 11:22 pm
Work was busy today. I barely got the time to sit down for lunch. Not that I had anything to eat with me today, but still. With as busy as it was, I could have used the 30 minutes to just sit and relax.

At the height of the busy-ness, we had a code red {for those of you who don't work at a hospital or have never been in a hospital setting where there were posted signs, a code red means fire.} The thing that triggered the code red is absolutely ridiculous. But in order to understand, I have to go back in the shift a little bit.

Earlier in the day, one of my coworkers tried to get a hold of the shift engineer to report a leak to him. He never answered the radio ... all 4 times he was called. So my coworker goes down to the messaging center to see if perhaps they can get a hold of him. He's paged twice and informs the messaging center that he's aware of the leak and that he would get it taken care of. Guess what? He doesn't do shit with the leak because apparently he couldn't find it.

Now fast forward to the code. Since no one could locate the exact location or what had triggered the code, the fire department arrived. They also couldn't find where the trigger was coming from. It was 20 minutes before the code was called clear and the building was put on a fire watch until something could be fixed. {A fire watch is where someone has to walk around the entire building every 15+ minutes checking to make sure nothing is on fire because the system is on hold and won't activate.}

Guess where it was coming from? The leak. On the 2nd floor of the building, they were scrubbing and waxing one of the rooms and there was a hole in the floor. Well, all the water being used to clean was dripping down though that hole and onto some wiring. The wiring belonged to a smoke detector. The dripping water short circuited the wiring, which is what had caused the fire alarm to go off.

If the fucking idiot engineer had taken his time to search for the leak, rather than just looking at the floor for a puddle, not seeing one {the puddle had actually soaked in to the rug that was on the floor} and moving on thinking that nothing was wrong there the whole situation could have been prevented.

I'm glad that tomorrow is my Friday. I've got my dog skills training class on Sunday, then another therapist appointment on Monday. Then back to work Tuesday.

Now that I actually have some time to sit and relax, I am going to take full advantage.

upcoming events
Wednesday. 5.18.11 12:47 am
Tomorrow I have my volunteer orientation at PAWS from 6-9pm. I'm excited about it, but at the same time a little nervous. It's only because it's something new. I only wish that I would be able to volunteer more of my time, but with working full time and going to school starting next month, I won't have more than maybe two days a week.

I'm going to drive up to my school tomorrow. See how the line in the admissions office looks. I have a feeling it won't be too short considering registration for the summer semester only just started on Monday. We'll see what happens. If it does end up being really long, then I'll just do some research online and wait to sign up for classes when I go in for that orientation/registration on June 1st.

I've got another therapist appointment on Monday afternoon. I'm still not sure what exactly it is I'm supposed to talk about, but I've got a few things written down in the journal she told me to keep.

Then I've got a dentist's appointment on June 6th as well as yet another therapist appointment that same day, but in the afternoon. Then finally a gyno appointment then next, June 7th.

I'm going to be busy.

My headache is getting worse. Screw the wet hair. I'm going to bed.

Until next time NuTang ...
