I'm only happy when it rains...
Sunday. 4.25.04 7:57 pm
The rain drops precipitating on this dreary day are like the thoughts inside my head--heavy and bleak. All of a sudden, I'm feeling the pressure of the semester winding to a close. I was in a perfectly fine mood earlier today, but after I went to Heilman to practice all of the mallet-related music for my Percussion Jury I became rather frustrated and agitated. I just want to relax. I would really like for the semester to be over, so I can sit around and read, play a game, hang out with my mom, visit my friends, go to work and save up money, etc. Before I relish in being able to do all of those things, I have to worry about putting together a presentation on Wicca for class on Wednesday, do a video project, have my piece ready to perform in Forum on Tuesday, be able to play all of the shit for my Jury, go back and complete some piano class assignments I skipped over, finish my piano composition by Friday, etc. I hate when the semester draws to a close and your professors have diligently put off projects and assignments until the last minute, expecting students to have no problem working their asses off in two weeks or less to complete everything. I know that I will get everything done, but that does not make the situation any less frustrating.

On a good note, schedules were given out and I got into all of the classes I signed up for (thank God). I probably would have had to have hurt someone if I had to do the run-around I did this past year to find classes to fill my schedule. For once, I have a quasi-normal schedule. My major classes--major meaning 4-credit hours--are Greek, Study of Jazz, Studio Techniques II, and Philosophy of Religion. Of course, on top of that I have a percussion lesson, composition lesson, symphonic band, percussion ensemble, forum, and I'll most likely get dicked into playing in orchestra and/or some other ensemble. As I wrote at length about in my previous, mammoth written entry, I'm more than excited about my living arrangements for next year. I don't exactly have difficulty sharing a room with someone, but there's no one I'm close to/am friends with that can room with me, and, as this year has proven, everyone left is either an asshole or a winner or a combination of the worst. So, I'm quite elated to have a room to myself, and a large room at that.

Thinking of summer, more specifically of jobs and saving money, I'm kinda hoping that I can get a job at the YMCA, because I would then be able to use the fitness facilities for free. The Radisson really isn't a bad place to work, but my manager is rather incompetent and I'm tired of being dicked over in my pay because unable to read a timecard, or do math, whatever her problem is. Also, you couldn't ask for a better co-worker anywhere--Tom is probably the hardest working man I know, his work ethic is top notch, and he's a cool guy. However, aside from not getting paid properly on numerous accounts, I hate the fluctuating hours. I think that I would much rather have a steady job, where you know that you're gonna work 8 hours 5 days a week, or whatever, instead of 11 hours on a saturday, 6 on sunday, 2 on monday, 5 on friday, etc. I'm planning on returning initially, but I will be looking for employment elsewhere, or at least in addition to the Radisson. In conjunction with the job idea, I'd really like to talk to Miss Ruth at Totem and see if I could possibly intern as a piercer. I'm very interested in piercings and tattoos, but I don't think I have the skill/talent to tattoo, so I'd go for piercing instead. I'm willing to bet that a lot of people would be surprised by the people that are piercers and tattoo artists. They're good people. I have to laugh at people that pigeonhole those people as satanists/deliquents/freaks/whatnot, because if they would set aside their ridiculous prejudices, they would see that those people are usually rather nice, intelligent, hilarious (and usually sarcastic/witty, which is even better), and a lot less weird than most people. It would be awesome to be an apprentice piercer. Even if not, Totem will have business from me this summer anyway.

Well, I'm sure I could go on, at great length, but I think I'll end there for now.

A book I haven't read...
Wednesday. 4.21.04 11:57 am

You're The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe!
by C.S. Lewis
You were just looking for some decent clothes when everything changed quite dramatically. For the better or for the worse, it is still hard to tell. Now it seems like winter will never end and you feel cursed. Soon there will be an epic struggle between two forces in your life and you are very concerned about a betrayal that could turn the balance. If this makes it sound like you're re-enacting Christian theological events, that may or may not be coincidence. When in doubt, put your trust in zoo animals.

"So I run, hide and tell myself I'll start again".
Tuesday. 4.20.04 10:48 pm
Upon reading in Dave's journal, "I wanted to write because I do like writing in this thing and we all have been a little lax about it lately." I realized that I have been more than lax about it. I figured it's been quite a long time since I've updated, so why not take the time to finally do so? Geez, I haven't updated with a real entry in slightly over a month.

Well, there's a particularly noticeable difference in my journal, as seen in my friends list. The change was for a few reasons:
a) I never really read some people's journals.
b) Some journals I did not find interesting.
c) I'm not going to read post-after-post about anyone's obsession with their bf/gf (this, however, excludes Dave since I've grown used to it and for the fact that he now writes real entries more often). I'm sure no one would read my journal if all I wrote about was a girl, so understand that when I say I'm not going to read yours.

Should go without saying, but those left on my list are the journals I do read, and like to read.

Hmm, various miscellaneous events have happened in the past, oh, 4 weeks or so, but I'll opt not to drone on about everything. Let's see, for an overview, I've basically been keeping up my work so my GPA stays nice and high. Easter Break was basically spent vegetating in my room, downloading like there was no tomorrow since I was home and not subject to the GLAAD firewall that exists on the school network. I returned to school and got back into the grind of doing work, etc.

-To interject my own train of thought, I often reflect upon just how great this semester has been in comparison to the previous three. It has been quite noticeable that I have overall been much happier, and it's more than obvious that I finally truly enjoy my classes (as my grades have reflected). I'm looking forward to next year so much: I'm going to be living on the Ave. in the SPAA house (in a massive single!), so I won't suffer living with fucktards in my hall/dorm, won't smell cow asshole from the nearby fields, etc.; I'm taking more classes in which I'm actually interested, including Greek, Philosophy of Religion, Buddhism/Asian Christianity, and Studio Techniques, amongst others; My grades this semester will definitely bump up my cumulative GPA, so I won't have any problem meeting the requirements to pledge "Puma", and their house is literally right across the street, so I can go there pretty much whenever I want. It's looking like next year is gonna be amazing. I can't wait.

Getting back to my recollection, this past weekend was full of fun times. Saturday was a fun road trip to Harrisburg, primarily to hit up Target since I've never been to one, but also to explore some other stores in the Colonial Commons. I really wanted to find and purchase the little round chairs with the folding legs that they sell at Target (seems to be the chair that everyone in college has, and they're so damn comfy and affordable), but they only had two brightly colored chairs that were $40. I passed and figured I'd make a trip before school starts in the Fall, so I can catch a back-to-school sale. Well, being the nerd that I am, the only purchase I made was the two books I bought at Border's (Dan Brown's Angels and Demons and Kevin Mitnick's The Art of Deception).

Man, I really have become a nerd. I've gotten into reading like it's my job! I read Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code and was blown away. I highly suggest that everyone reads that book. Well, I ended up joining two book clubs in the past month or so, one being a Christian book club to which my mom also belongs, and a History book club that I joined recently. Oddly enough, through the Christian book club I ordered the lot of J.R.R. Tolkien books, and bought books on the Dead Sea Scrolls, Lost Christianities, Lost Scriptures, and Prophecies through the History book club. Heh, seems a little backwards, but whatever. I'm all about reading. It's a good time.

Anyway, came back from Harrisburg and went to a barbeque at the Zeta house, but it wasn't too exciting. I got up early (for me, anyway) on Sunday to head to Williamsport for the AIDS walk at Lycoming College. The group of us that went stopped for breakfast at the shady 4 Seasons Diner here in Shamokin Dam. The highlight of the day was hearing the project manager tell us her weird dream about a squirrel masturbating inside the equivalent of a tree house, then a knife entering to scrape the "result" off of the walls, then the whole thing turned into a commercial for peanut butter with some ridiculous slogan about being "straight from the squirrel's nuts."--we were all going WTF?! After that interesting conversation, we headed to the stadium and went to register our team (which I said we should call ourselves "Squirrel Nut Butter", but we went with Team SPAA instead). We ended up walking 4 miles! We had our laughs, especially when this guy consistently lapped us and I mocked his robotic arm movements while singing "domo arigato Mr. Robot-o". We enjoyed ourselves, despite being sweaty and dirty (since Lycoming's track is just a big gravel pit, it's gross). After that I went along to the Greek store, in which I felt envious since I'm not in a frat yet. After that I went home and had a nice shower, ate, watched Eight Crazy Nights, and relaxed.

School's basically still the same routine, but thankfully finals are coming up, and more importantly, summer break. Right now I'm looking forward to Spring Weekend. Friday night we're having a Percussion "sectional"--i.e., we're getting annihilated. Hopefully the partying will continue Saturday night as well, because it's always fun to show up to a concert still having alcohol on your breath. The concert kinda pisses me off. Band is annoying because we've basically been ready for the concert for about a month already. It's also annoying because Dr. Martin's kinda freakin out because we're gonna be televised, and so now we have this dress code, which says we can only wear gold jewelry, so she says I have to take my piercings out for the concert. It's bullshit. We'll see how that goes.

Well, there's a novel for ya. My apologies for the lack of updating.

If I were a country...
Monday. 4.12.04 2:55 am

You're Brazil!
You're athletic, charming, and probably a good dancer.  Unfortunatley, you don't really mind chopping down the rain forest, and you probably consider homeless people expendable in certain circumstances.  Of course, your personality is so diverse that it's hard to track down exactly what you're like.  You definitely like Pele, the World Cup, and shouting "gooooal" at the top of your lungs.
