Green Graduation Party
Tuesday. 5.15.07 10:10 pm
Tonight my mom and I sat down to talk about what the details of my graduation party are going to be. I have decided that it will be a low-impact event. So far we've come up with these ideas...

- party invites are being printed on my old school papers
- everyone/each party takes a tree (seedling) home
- since we got forked last October... We'll use all of those forks instead of buying new ones.
- plates, cups, etc.. will be made from recycled materials
- I PICK THE FOOD. localll localll

And thats about it. But if you have an idea, of any kind, feel free to share your thoughts.

Growing
Thursday. 5.10.07 7:28 pm
Today was the first overcast, warm, humid day this year. This morning we had a thunderstorm and then it flip flopped between sunny and showers. While I was at the lab in the afternoon there was a big thunderstorm so everything was really dark.

By the time I got back home the weather was wet, but that's about it. It started to rain again and I went out and weeded one of the gardens along the house. Gardening is amazing. Its so rewarding when you've cleaned up a garden. Everything looks well kept and pretty. I don't much like gardens that are too straight edge/trimmed... They dont have that organic natural flow between plants and home. I can't wait til more flowers come out.

I think its fasicnating to get your hands in the dirt and feel and learn the roots and their structures. Some grow straight down, some grow like a vine above the ground while the others may grow in long underground structure. And when you've been weeding a plant and you start to learn that one way is easier to pull it fully out of the ground than another plant, its so... awesome. I love to learn.

Another quote for thought...
Sunday. 5.6.07 9:28 am
from treehugger.com ;

The Muskegon Chronicle let its readers know, for example, that:- "The label doesn't mention that the Aquafina sold in Michigan comes from the city of Detroit's water system...Detroit gets its water from the Detroit River and Lake Huron. The American Water Works Association last year rated Detroit's water the best-tasting municipal water in Michigan...The Dasani sold in Michigan is also Detroit city water; and the Propel sold in Michigan is flavored water from municipal water systems in Indianapolis and New Jersey, company officials said...Critics accuse companies like Pepsi (Aquafina) and Coke (Dasani) of hypocrisy by promoting bottled water as a healthier alternative to tap water when those products are, in fact, purified tap water."

and its a waste, so refill your bottles instead of always buying new ones!

Interesting Quote
Monday. 4.30.07 10:29 pm
I read an interesting article on treehugger today. which is an awesome site. and i thought i would share this little quote...

"My daugher Severn is 27 years old, and she's been an environmental activist ever since she was seven years old. A few months ago she said to me, 'Dad, I think this is the most exciting time to be alive in all of human history.' She said this is the moment, in the following months and a few years, we are going to have to make some big decisions. Because if we make the right decisions, or if we fail to make the decisions, it's going to determine the fate, not only of all human kind, but of countless species of plants and animals. This is the defining moment, she said, when we will decide whether or not we're going to be a spectacular Flash in the Pan failure, or whether we can step up to the plate and show that we are capable of finding humility, compassion, patience and wisdom to truly find a sustainable path. As I reflected on her comment, I've come to the conclusion she's absolutely right."
