MacBook Pro Anxiety
Friday. 2.15.08 12:52 pm
I feel so neurotic right now.

I bought a MacBook Pro about two weeks ago (the so-called 'low-end' version) because it was on sale for $1599 at the bookstore on campus. However, I can't help but feel a little uneasy because for an extra 5 benjamins I could have gotten the 2.4 with twice as much vram; Honestly, I don't think I would ever need to drive a 30' monitor along with the laptop, nor do I see myself running GPU intensive applications like Motion or Maya, yet I just feel like since I was already making a small investment I might as well have put my funds into the higher-end model?

Maybe I just wanted to future-proof my investment a bit more, or maybe I'm just ridiculous. The higher-end MPB was on sale for $2099 with the purchase of AppleCare which would make it out to be about $2200 with taxes. I bought the one I have now for about $1700. I have a friend who still uses a Powerbook G4 from his 1st year in college because it suits him just fine. But I can't compare apples to oranges (no pun intended).

I don't know. Sometimes I just rock my world with absurd and oftentimes unnecessary excess baggage in the form of mental constructs and verbal obstacles when I know the MPB I just procured is definitely more than enough for what I will be using it for in the coming years to come (the occasional Doom 3, Quake 4, Sims 2, Photoshop, iMovie, and maybe Final Cut).

Whatever Marc, build a bridge and get over it. Seriously.

U.S. Open can suck golf balls
Monday. 5.19.08 4:30 pm
Ok so I go to UCSD, and it just so happened that Torrey Pines would be the host of the U.S. Open this year. What does that have to do with my life you ask? Well, it just so happens that Torrey Pines is right next to UCSD, and a good majority of the parking spots that are already thin as it is for students are going to be used by U.S. Open patrons and the like. Seriously, are you fucking kidding me?

I, for one, am a commuter. I don't live on campus, and I especially don't live near (I'm from southeast San Diego, thanks) or around La Jolla. And ever so conveniently, finals are happening the same week that the U.S. Open is in town. That, and graduation commencement is being PUSHED BACK a week for this tournament.

Good looking out for the students Chancellor Fox and company. Really, good looking out.
