Today was quite possibly the most irritating day I've ever had at Talbots.

I was supposed to work 5pm-10pm tonight, but at 2:30pm I was called and asked to come in early. There's a corporate visit tomorrow from the regional and district managers, and they have a lot to do so they could use the extra hand. I really didn't want to, but I knew that if I didn't come in early to get stuff done I would be there after ten anyway trying to get everything done.

I barely had time to put down my things when I clocked in at 3:30pm before I was sent into the gauntlet. There were quite a few customers, but none was buying anything. There were two tracks with piles of unfolded clothes on them -- that is where we put clothes that need to go back, but customers decided to put the clothes the don't want -- including stuff still on hangers -- on top of these piles, which made them really difficult to fold and put away. I was folding and putting away clothes for an hour and half before I went to my lunch. By the time I got back, overall straightening still had yet to be done.

My assistant manager stayed until 6:30pm, 1.5 hours AFTER her shift was up, to do the "edging" of the carpets -- basically taking care of the dust that collects along the wall where the big vacuum can't reach. The only problem is, we don't have a small vacuum to do the job, so she insisted on doing it the old-school way: scraping the dust out of the corners with a broom.

By the time she left, I was finally on my way to straightening. It seemed to have finally calmed down until these two women came in and demanded our full attention. I wanted to kill these women. First of all, they returned $1200 worth of merchandise without a receipt, and the times where duplicates and not in their size -- obviously, they were stolen. Since I'm not allowed to "call people out" in these situations, I had to accept the return "graciously" despite my already irritated mood.

One of the women, who was particularly overweight, at least 40, and wearing a skin-tight Roca Wear sweatsuit that had a lacy, see-through design, decided to try on a jacket right there in front of the cash wrap. That wouldn't be a problem at all if she was wearing A FREAKING SHIRT underneath her jacket! I couldn't believe she was totally flashing her giant boobs all over my store.

When they left, I had about seventeen more things to put away and our store was in the red.

I didn't finish straightening until right when we closed, and after kicking out mallrats that wanted to sit in our chairs after hours (are you kidding me?), I went ahead and vacuumed the whole store. Again, not a big deal, except when my manager dried to edge the store, she ended up leaving bits and pieces of straw ALL OVER THE PLACE, which were difficult to pick up with the vacuum. I eventually had to pick all of them up by hand.

Well, it was an overall annoying day, but luckily, I don't plan on working there for much longer. Owen and I got an apartment in Northgate and we're moving in this weekend, so I will just get a job closer to where I will be living. I'm really excited. It will be our first place together on our own.

I am getting a little more anxious about hearing from the University of Washington. I got a message that said my application has been reviewed as of yesterday, but I will be informed of the decision via postal mail. I am glad that I won't have to wait for an answer anymore, but I am really scared that it isn't going to be one that I like. I have been trying to think positive. Everyone is telling me that I'm a shoo-in, and I think that the odds are definitely in my favor. I just want to know already. I'm so excited!

Hey, guys, I am off to Egypt.

I know I owe you a Japan entry. I am getting on it. The thing is blogging is tough to find time for when you work 30+ hours every week AND have to do all of your homework in advance due to vacation.

Ah, well. I have a sixteen hour journey ahead of me, and internet access in a couple of hotels, so keep checking back.
