Here is an article I found in the healthy living section of Life Script.

Carpal Tunnel: A Diabetes Warning Sign?
Monday, November 27, 2006

Coming down with carpal tunnel syndrome can be an early indicator of type 2 diabetes, a surprising new study finds. Published in the journal Diabetes Care, the study by British researchers finds that wrist nerve problems can predict the onset of diabetes by up to 10 years. Previous studies have linked type 2 diabetes to a host of nerve disorders. In the current study, researchers estimated that being diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome can raise the risk that a person will develop type 2 diabetes by about 36%. The facial paralysis disorder known as Bell's palsy was also identified as an additional diabetes risk factor.

Carbs and aging
Saturday. 12.9.06 2:30 am

Reducing Carbs can keep you looking young

Insulin has been labelled as the main culprit to invite ageing early. Eating too much of carbohydrates results in high insulin levels. Increased insulin levels tell the body to store carbohydrates as fat. They also tell it not to release any stored fat. It makes sure that you stay fat. Even worse, high insulin levels also suppress the growth hormone that is responsible for remaining young.

High levels of insulin can cause major health problems like diabetes, hypertension, obesity, high levels of cholesterol, heart disease, kidney disease, female infertility and neuro-degeneration. Greasy fast-food, nutrient-deprived processed foods and over-cooked vegetables are the junk food. Polished grains, sweets, soft drinks, and high-starch foods like potatoes, burgers and pizzas lead to overweight, and give you the looks and feeling of being older. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, chances are that the excess carbohydrates in your body are, in part or whole, to blame:

* Excess weight
* Fatigue and frequent sleepiness
* Depression
* Brain fogginess
* Bloating
* Low blood sugar and high blood pressure
* High triglycerides

One of the most important things you can do for preventing old age and its diseases is to decrease the intake of carbohydrates, especially those drawn from foods grown below the surface of earth.

FDA approves new wrinkle cream
Saturday. 12.2.06 12:08 pm
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Restylane ®, an injection for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, the lines between the nose and mouth.

Restylane ® is the first and only FDA-approved dermal filler made of a biodegradable non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA(TM)). Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in all living organisms and provides volume and fullness to the skin.

Restylane ® is formulated as a clear gel and uses a dual mechanism of action to correct wrinkles and folds. Upon being injected beneath the skin's surface, the NASHA gel adds natural volume and lift to smooth wrinkles and folds. The NASHA gel integrates into dermal tissue then attracts and binds to water molecules to help maintain volume. Restylane is gradually degraded by the body's own mechanism and disappears without any residue. Results can be seen immediately following treatment and last six months, or even longer.

IT SOUNDS PRETTY GOOD BUT WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

Possible side effects: No serious side effects are known as yet, but minor ones can include inflammation, bruising, and swelling at the injection site, and bumpiness or lumpiness after injection. Allergies are rare, notes Dr. Moy.

NO SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS? WELL IF YOU LOOKED LIKE A CREATURE BEFORE THE TREATMENT I GUESS IT WOULD BE OK.

Americans Load Up on Empty Calories

HEALTH NEWS BYTE
Tuesday, January 30, 2007

According to a new study, the calories you suck down through a straw may play a bigger role in weight gain than the calories you bite off the end of a fork. Published as part of the national report "What America Drinks," the study's findings indicate that "liquid calories" make up 22% of the average U.S. adult's diet. A signification portion of those calories come in the form of refined sugar from sweetened fruit juices and sodas, which have been shown to contribute to the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes. For those looking to curb their calorie intake in the new year, researchers recommended a simple fix: a cold, refreshing glass of water.

What This Means for You
For those who can't do without a little sweetness in their cup, many beverage makers are capitalizing on health concerns by offering sugar-free, zero-calorie or all-natural alternatives to sugary drinks. For those with simpler palates, there's also sparkling mineral water.

THEREFORE, SLIM FAST IS ACTUALLY SLIM SLOW!!

Fight Colon Cancer
Thursday. 2.1.07 7:58 am
My grandfather died from colon cancer about 2 years ago. My grandmother is still so heart broken. I think if she could just die of a broken heart, she would.

I read about a recent study whereas Curry and Onions may help to reduce the size of pollps in the colon therefore reducing the risk of colon cancer. Because my grandfather died from this cancer, it now puts me at risk..

Curry and Onions may Help Fight Colon Polyps

HEALTH NEWS BYTE
Sunday, August 20, 2006

For people concerned about colon health, a spicier diet just may be in order. According to research conducted at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, antioxidants found in curry spices and onions can help shrink colon polyps and prevent them from becoming cancerous tumors. Hopkins researchers studied a group of patients, identified as being at high-risk of colon cancer, over the course of a six-month period. At the study's end, those patients who had consumed higher amounts of the compounds curcumin and quercetin – found in abundance in curry and onions – experienced an average reduction of 60% in the number of colon polyps. Researchers called for larger-scale studies of curcumin and quercetin.

Skin numbing creams = DEATH
Wednesday. 2.7.07 11:36 am
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - People who use large amounts of skin-numbing creams and lotions, often in conjunction with cosmetic procedures, are at risk of irregular heartbeats, seizures and even death, U.S. health officials warned on Tuesday.

The
Food and Drug Administration, citing two deaths, said such topical anesthetics can be applied in amounts so large that a lethal dose of the chemicals can enter the bloodstream.

A 22-year-old woman and a 25-year-old woman who applied numbing creams after laser hair removal on their legs later died, the agency said

After the procedure, "these women then wrapped their legs in plastic wrap, as they were instructed, to increase the creams' numbing effect. Both women had seizures, fell into comas, and subsequently died from the toxic effects of the anesthetic drugs," the FDA said.

Numbing creams and lotions, available both by prescription and over the counter, are approved to soothe burning or itching skin as well as pain before, during and after various procedures. They contain numbing drugs that can include lidocaine, tetracaine, benzocaine and prilocaine.

But the FDA said consumers should be cautious about using them without medical supervision.

Leaving the creams on the skin for long periods of time or on large portions of their bodies can increase the risk, officials have said. Small children and people with heart or severe liver disease are also at higher risk.

People considering skin-related cosmetic or medical procedures should talk to their doctors about whether they need numbing creams, the agency said. If so, they should use one that is FDA-approved and contains the lowest amount of anesthetic possible.

"You should also discuss with your doctor whether there are other ways to reduce the pain you may feel during the procedure," it added.

In December, the FDA also warned five pharmaci

ENVIGA!!
Wednesday. 2.21.07 5:17 pm

Enviga

calorie burner Peach
Cost: $? 12 oz
Active ingredients: Caffeine, Green Tea Extract
Rating: 6.5 out of 10

Enviga is the first drink from Nestea and Coca cola, which is after studies claiming to actually help you burn calories. This might not exactly be an energy drink but with 100mg of Caffeine, it definitely fits in with other energy drinks, which range from 80mg to 280mg of caffeine per serving. This is about the same as an average cup of coffee which contains 80-140 milligrams. So does this drink help you to burn calories as the can claims? "The cans per day of Enviga have been shown to increase calorie burning by 60-100 calories in a healthy normal weight 18-35 year olds."

I don't know I guess you would have to drink three cans a day for a month or so, a challenge I might have to take on just to give this a real test. Well as an energy drink, it seems weaker than most, but has a fairly pleasant peach taste, with only 5 calories it has a pretty good flavor. I think the biggest problem is the slightly pungent aftertaste, it tastes a bit like sweat, others didn't notice this after taste, which can probably better be described by saying if you just clumped up all the little hairs on the outside of a peach and put those in your mouth you would have this bitter odd flavor, luckily the aftertaste doesn't last long and the peach green tea flavor is far more noticeable. I don't think this will hit well with the young kids running around and staying up all night, but if your looking for a afternoon burst of energy after lunch and you want a low calorie tasty drink, I guess it might be worth giving this drink a shot, especially if you already like tea.

JACK BAUER WOULD NEVER DRINK ENVIGA!
