When the word "brain" comes to mind (heh), I think of someone being asked a question and automatically knowing the answer, without any kind of mental challenge or thought process. It's true that "brain" and "mind" may have differing connotations. Being brainy may suggest objectiveness while mindful could follow subjective wisdom.
