Well, usually math and math-based science courses suffer from that sort of thing. Those types of classes (I would think and hope) require some sort of active derivation, possibly on the white/blackboard, so that someone can actually see the steps carried out.

The class I'm teaching is going to be a lab course, so I won't nearly run into as many problems with that sort of thing. The way I do things when I present--which I think will carry over to when I teach--is that if there is something that requires explanation on a step-wise level, I usually physically draw a diagram. (That's what I did whenever I tutored anyone in, say, how genes are transcribed into mRNA transcripts, and how those transcripts are eventually translated into protein.)

I think what a lot of teachers don't realize is that they rely too much on presentations as a crutch. What I would like to do is put basic info in the presentation and expound on that verbally. I HATE it when teachers/presenters READ off the presentation--good for you, I can read, too... The egregious misuse of Powerpoint needs to be curbed.

Haha, I don't know the name. I'm completely out of touch with the gym circuit... in fact, I was never in touch to begin with.
