The Age of Robots
Thursday. 3.1.07 11:24 am
To relax I like to read tech news or trash about the celebrities. I know sounds pretty bad huh? Well, while reading Engadget I stumbled across this....

At the University of Tokyo they have created a humanoid robot to assist with the elderly.

"Researchers at the University of Tokyo are crafting more lifelike and more agile servant bots nevertheless. In an effort to create a tactical team of droids ready and willing to serve the aging population of Japan." (http://www.engadget.com/)

These droids will do simple tasks such as cleaning, doing the dishes and pouring tea.

I dont know but does this sound like the movie iRobot to anyone? I am afraid that one of these days, this simple invention is going to turn against us. Maybe it is just paranoia.

It's NOT paranoia.
There's a reason why hundreds of hundreds of stories, movies, and books warn us of technology.
And have you ever realized that apart from those rich and wealthy, NOBODY like the industrial revolution? It messed up ALOT of things and now we talk about it as if it were the greatest thing to happen since mitosis, but nobody liked it back when it was happening. Why? For a reason!

So yeah. We're all screwed. Nothing can stop the certain demise and down fall we will have because of our dependance on technology.

YEAY!

I should sooo tell her that...

What happened with the scholarship deal? And I think the robots will kill us.

Thats horrible. I hope you do well on your midterms.. I didn't do too hot on mine. I think I made all Bs, and one D in math that can be worked up to a B if I can do the corrections correct. BUT, IF I have all Bs then my 4.0 is gone

once again,
I'm with Elessar on this one.

Robots that are becoming more lifelike bother me like nothing else. Honestly, it's only a matter of time before things with all this technology stuff comes full circle and bites us on the tush. I want to go back to the days when Bikes were considered technology.

Woo
I wonder how long it'll take them scientists to create REAL LIVING CREATURES.
But that picture looks sorta like a fake...

it does sound like I, Robot. I wouldn't trust a robot with my elderly family members. I like computers and cell phones, but a robot? the little toys are fine, but the real thing would, honestly, creep me out a bit. as much as I don't like people or having to do simple tasks {such as dishes} I'd much rather have a person to take care of my elders and I'd rather do the dishes myself.

That most definitely occurred to me as I was reading your entry. Hmm, I wonder how it manages to pour tea accurately...

I'm kinda on the fence about the issue... Technological advancement is a double-edged sword because technology can be used for good or to harm. But that is not what I wanted to say. Anyone ever see those Roomba commercials where they have a whole bunch of people saying "I love robots!" The whole commercial reminds me of... well, some movie where robots were portrayed as good and then eventually took over the world. I'm sure there was a scene exactly like that in SOME movie somewhere, with a commercial within the movie saying "I love robots!" I just can't place which movie I'm thinking about. Or maybe I'm just crazy and am remembering something that never existed.

Well, then.

Right.

Oh, but the Roomba is cool. I like that robot. Anthropomorphic robots kinda skeeze me out a little, though.
